I think you hit the nail on the head when you discussed placement. Gigi has a different placement each time she sings a different song or genre. I think that's what gives her the authentic sound of whatever song or genre she's singing. She's got a particular placement for pop, jazz, rnb, rock, or ballad. There's no default voice or style, although I can still hear her own voice everytime. She also emulates the flavour and sound of the original artist. Oh man. THIS is the closest anyone can come to Hayley Williams. There are so many parts of the song that when you close your eyes, you can swear it's Hayley. But also, shout out to the Gigi Vibes because they nailed this. Paramore isn't easy to cover musically. They're just so tight and so together. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 I hear what you're saying about the drums and bass driving the music which makes this so good. And may I say, your ears, hearing that guitar lag??? It's so minor but you caught it. Doesn't really throw me off but good observation Doc. This never gets old and the thing is, it's not over-done or a true mimic. It has the essence of Hayley and Paramore but it's purely Gigi too and that's hard to do. Oh and she's sitting down. Thanks again Doc and have a blessed day. Cheers

yes i agree.. there are a lot of adjectives to describe her ..but the one that stands out to me is her beauty ...she has a gorgeously insane killer look that I cant find mostly in many Filipino artists.

Paramore is one of Gigi's influence musically as she confessed in her livestream. Her voice really is at home singing this genre..

I'd like to share what Rozette of CZ Media, a very good reactor,a very good singer,and a very good vocal coach from Canada, said about Gigi, " Honestly,she doesn't seem real to me. The sounds that come out of her mouth doesn't seem real. It doesn't seem human. It's ridiculous. And she just seem unassuming looking, but the sounds, sounds like a beast. I cannot lie, I'm a huge ass fan of miss Gigi, huge ass fan, so good!"

The sounds that come out of her mouth don't seem real or human because, especially in this video, they are not real, they are not human--they are completely autotuned and/or pitch corrected. Every note in this is snapped to the line--you can even hear an artifact at an abrupt change, at 2:22 in the original recording. But I would think people could hear the synthesized sound of her voice all throughout. But maybe they hear it and, like the reactor you quote, attribute it to some superhuman component of Gigi's voice, when it's actually a synthesized replacement for her voice. Notice on the video description it says remastered version. In this case, that's a euphemism for autotuned and pitch corrected. Very disingenuous to still call it live performance. I guess vocal coaches don't care about being fooled. And how can they talk about perfect placement when it's not her real voice they're hearing?

Great vocal analysis as always. This is a very difficult song to sing because of the high sustained notes She has amazing support. Gigi can imitate singers, but is also known for re-arranging songs & making it her own, and sometimes shes better than the original. Check out her cover of Adele's ALL I ASK. More below...

Gigi de Lana and Amy Winehouse are my favorite all time singers. It only took one video by each to hook me. You're an expert, you're objective, and you know what you're talking about. I can see what you're saying about the guitar in the solo. It's almost like the guitarist is playing against the click instead of against the vibe coming from the rhythm section. And of course, Gigi is amazing as always.

Hayley Williams can quit Paramore if she wants cuz Gigi can certainly takeover as the band vocalist like Ariel Pineda did to Steve Perry of Journey. But Gigi has so many sides and can sound whoever she's wants to in any genre. She's too talented and versatile to sing just Paramore songs. The best singer the rest of the world never knew.

Oddly, some Filipinos consider her singing style as shouty and do not regard her as one of our great singers like Morissette Amon and Katrina Velarde. Some even regard her as a trying hard wannabe. So it was a surprise to me when you mentioned in one of your reactions to Gigi that you will easily include her in your list of very few selected great singers. A compliment like that coming from a professional and experienced vocal coach like you makes me feel proud of my favorite singer.

those people who are commenting negatively about Gigi doesn't know how to appreciate music at all coz their minds are clouded by their idols and cant take the fact that theres another shining and fast rising artist. It's their defense mechanism I can say.

I know right? I guess those Pinoy ears are accustomed to ballads and 'belt-your-face-off" type of songs. But what they don't understand are the genres. But i'm right with you. I love GIgi and I think they do covers so so so well. Covers can go so badly so quickly. But they way Gigi and the Gigi Vibes do it is placing their own spin and spirit into the covers without being patronizing.

A shouty singer is a singer who pushes when hitting top notes. And a competent highly trained singer should never push or at least very rarely does so. This singer does not push.....her top notes or what they say as "shouty" is highly resonant. Resonance is the opposite of shouty. Resonance is organic, healthy and skilled. You will easily run out of steam if your singing technique is pushed or shouty in a gig with a reasonably long duration and probably the next day when you wake up you will be hoarse. This girl can rock this kinda performance for a couple of hours and still maintain vocal health and prowess. Morissette and Katrina while hailed as great singers in Asia CANNOT rock like Gigi does. In fact Gigi is the only female Filipina singer I know who rocks it out at the highest rock n roll standard. She is the only Filipina famous singer I know who has grit and balls. She is very edgy. That complement about Gigi being in a Paramore tribute band was underwhelming and somewhat backhanded. Gigi is good enough to be Hayley Williams's replacement if, God forbid, anything happens to Hayley and Paramore needs a new lead singer. On a side note 12:44 - 12:50 is what John Legend would call a "Hallelujah" moment when he will raise his hand up high and praise the Lord when a singer on The Voice produces such a sound and moment. I have never seen Morissette or Katrina produce that edgy, intense and emotionally charged moment. That my friend is what the Christ of Rock N Roll calls a Rock N Roll moment! 🤣

Gigi for some reason has a lot of haters. I think it started when ABS-CBN asked her to do a cover of Morisette's Akin Ka Na Lang for the tele-series. Her version was different, turned it to more alternative rock. I like both Gigi & Mori as singers, very different syles, but some of Mori's fans are so toxic. Anyway, thats what usually happens when a new person starts to become popular. Mori received a lot of bashing too when she was starting to get popular in 2016, from toxic fans of Sarah Geronimo. Now Mori's fans have become the toxic ones themselves haha! Katrina was bashed too early on, saying her voice was very piercing, but the bashing has lessened. So sad because all of these singers are great & for some reason, some Filipino fans have this mentality that they can only like 1 singer lol! I see this toxicity in some of Regine's fans too. Wish everyone would just appreciate all these singers for their individual styles.
