Austin Brown is the only tenor that I've ever heard who can be smooth while growling out a vowel. This whole band in indescribably great.

Adam Rupp does use a loop live. Adam Chance the baritone is making the “jaw harp” sound in this. You should check out Adam Rupp “Drum Solo” to get a glimpse into his abilities.

I’ve seen them live . They use a loop station to keep the beat going during the harmonica. Live they actually do dueling harmonicas with Adam Rupp (beat boxer) and Austin (first singe/lead tenor). They use a looping station for a few of their more recent songs. The jaw harp is actually being done by Adam Chance (Baritone/second Bass).

The bass singer (Tim) is beyond unbelievable! Few people on the planet with his ability. A treasure to listen to.

Watching live performances of this song blows me away, cause you realize Adam Rupp REALLY does just sound like a harmonica.

I think it's cool to not just imitate an instrument, but to do it well enough that they actually give you a solo.

when it comes to Tim you haven't heard low yet.. lol that man.... has multiple times in live shows gone so low that he has killed Professional Speaker Systems.. the most insane thing about him is that while his bass is somewhere below the basement he's got such a range that he can also sing up in the Tenor's area... which... has caused them in live skits to be able to have a little fun with it cause the 2 Tenors are like "Woah Woah Woah.... get back down there where you belong buddy" I'd highly recommend Helplessly Hopeless(cover of Crosby Stills and Nash) it's delicious to your ears... or the version of Misty Mountains by Peter Hollens that includes Tim.... it's like an Eargasm for a bass head... almost the entire song you are amazed by the arrangement.. you are amazed by Peter but at the end of it you are like.. "Tim has to be part Dragon"

Adam Rupp is beat boxer, Tim Faust is bass/tenor and all in between, Rob (the beard) is tenor and Austin is lead tenor, Chance is baritone/bass and he was the one making the jaw harp sound. They are amazing

Austin is a Georgia boy so comes by his country twang honestly. He can also turn off the twang when needed. Yes, a looper is used live. There are a number of live videos on KZfaq if you are interested in watching. (included my channel) Thanks for the Home Free reaction.

Just near the end, the last of the jaw harp sounds, you can see Chance doing it. Adds SO much to the whole feel of the song.

An amazing arrangement of theirs, put together by Adam Rupp their beatboxer, it Do You Hear What I Hear. One of their best, I think.

"Helplessly Hoping" and "Auld Lang Syne" are two of my favorite Home Free works. They excellently portray just what each guy can do with his voice and just what a five part harmony is. If you listen carefully toward the end of Auld Lang Syne you'll hear Austin in a beautiful flute-like insertion and it's just the prettiest thing I wish he did more of. They have a number of humorous pieces that are worth your time. "Champaign Taste" is very clever.

You really want to hear them sing How Great Thou Art.

If you like harmonies, you gotta listen to " Seven bridges road".

He does use looper live but not much. Saw them in Sydney Australia in Feb. Tims lows vibrate the air

Great reaction, you’re the first reactor who nailed the jaw harp as well as their use of a looping station for this song. They do use a live looper in concert for this song.

I'll add my vote to those recommending "Helplessly Hoping" or "How Great Thou Art" for a listen. Both are awesome and very moving. Another good direction to go would be to look at some of their more fun/catchy numbers like the "Butts Remix" or "All about the Bass." I would hold off on "Mayday" until you've become familiar with how they generally do things so you can appreciate it more. Truly though, you can't go wrong with anything from Home Free.

They released a new video two weeks ago called Moonshine.....really cool and the beat boxer does his thing. There'll be another video premiering tomorrow. They've been doing this since the pandemic started. Just trying to keep spirits up. Adam...beat boxer does use a Looper for some of the songs. They show the audience how it works. This is a great group of guys that just want to have fun, but also can be very serious. Thanks for a great reaction.

They use looper on just two song when they are live. This one and Castle On The Hill. But for an extra twist, when they do this one live, Austin, the tenor soloist joins the beatboxer, Adam, for the harmonica break. Harmonica harmony... It's pretty cool.

Great reactions on the last two Home Free songs. They are amazing. One thing to consider is, when you pause (and pausing is great), hit that back 5 second button so you don't miss something wonderful. These are so chock full of goodness that I found myself yelling "NO" a couple of places where you paused because I knew the next second something was coming up.

They have been doing loops for a couple of years now to add to the texture. When you see them in a live show they loop you in so you can see it.

I love them doingv Auld Lang Syne. It is worth listening to more than once.

Sure am glad that you mentioned that! In "Go Rest High On That Mountain" Chance does it throughout the whole song. And our multi tasking beat boxer does similarly in the tenor range. I don't know if anyone mentioned in your 300 comments, Chance was the jaw harp. I think (could be wrong) that Rob usually does the yodelling. He whistles really well also. New Subscriber My dear sister, Angie (lost to us in 2004 - cancer) was the high school coral music teacher for Mankato East HS, Mankato MN. Chris and Adam Rupp were her students at Mankato East. I remember her telling me once that "someday, these guys are going to be famous." She was SO right. I have seen Home Free, live, several times. They are even more wonderful in person. In the past, it was only Adam who performed the beatbox. But now, I don't know. Once after a Friends and Family concert in St Cloud MN, I stood in line for the guys as they signed autographs. When I got to Chris (no longer with the group) and Adam I told them I was Angle's sister...I got a big hug from each of them. I couldn't help but shed a few years when I told them what she'd said to me years before. They were obviously moved by her memory. She was very loved by her students. I'm looking forward to the time I get to see them again. Hopefully, I won't have to wait to long.

So many great recommendations already - I would add Country Roads (apparently they took 5 years to craft the arrangement to where they felt they’d done John Denver justice). Their plethora of recent pandemic videos (every 2 weeks!) are fantastic and very creative because they live in 3 different Staes - Austin & Tim in Nashville, Chance in LA, Rob and Adam in Minneapolis: Quarantine, Meet in the Middle, Diamond Dreams, Everybody Walking This Land (must watch the brief comments at the end), Moonshine and more. Their catalogue is very deep, there are so many more still to come. Looking forward to more Home Free reactions!

I understand they have over 100 songs on youtube. For a few more that I can think of: "Blue Ain't Your Color", "Champagne Taste (On A Beer Budget)", "Leave This Town", "Your Man", and for originals "Dive Bar Saints" and "Moonshine". Oh, what a lovely and moving rendition of "Man of Constant Sorrow". Home Free is my second favorite a cappella group after VoicePlay. But, my hands down favorite rendition of this song in Peter, Paul and Mary's 1962 recording of "Sorrow".

It's a piece of work, and hoping to see a vocal coach actually see how good their harmonies are....you'll be pleased and astonished I believe. On this particular song, they do a looper when doing the song live because the jaw harp actually hurts Chances' throat to do it for long (he's the baritone). I believe they also loop the dos as well so that they are free to do more stuff in the song. They have videos of them doing this live, just have to search for it.

Just saw them live in Chattanooga last Thursday. Yes, they use a looper live - in fact, Adam even does a whole number just by himself using the looper. So amazing! Also, now Austin provides a SECOND harmonica note to get that mini-chord going during the harmonica solo! 😃

Austin Brown lead&tenor is a natural at sounding country, he's from Tifton Ga. A real southern gentleman! Very south Ga!!!!

I've seen them live... More than one of the group can beatbox as needed to help Adam. Not that he needs it. Catch his beatbox "drum solo" - he is insane. They also never shift - 2 hours of show and steady the whole way.

They do a fantastic duet of Elvira with The Oakridge Boys.

They are all capable of beatboxing for backup (esp Rob, tenor), not like Adam tho cuz he's incredible (!), but as already mentioned, a looper is used in this song live. They've added the loop station to their live shows but they haven't always used one. Some of their arrangements are so intricate. I see that others have mentioned that it's Adam Chance (known as Chance, to differentiate him from Adam Rupp, who is the brother of Chris Rupp, who started group but is now on his own) does the jaw harp. Austin Brown is from Georgia. He gets his authentic country sound pretty naturally. ;-) They do use a looper for some of their songs--including in live situations. Usually, in this one (live) Austin does a "harmonica" duet with Adam (Rupp). The bass is Tim Foust. Adam Chance is the Baritone (jaw harp, as well, as mentioned). Rob Lundquist is the 1st tenor. Home Free’s version of Folsom Prison Blues is just fantastic. They take a few liberties with the song, as they tend to do with most of their covers, but IT WORKS!!! I would love to see a reaction of that song…

Adam Rupp's brother was with the original group, but when he left Adam Chance joined the group (he is the one doing the jaw harp). Chance is also a bass, and can cover for a lot of the other guys..they are great live!!
