What I love about Tim (bass) is that in most songs he has at least an octave in his pocket below what he is singing, and at least two octaves above. So he can dive and slide deeper at moments that completely take you by surprise. Then he can (much less often when in a group) flip right up and cover most of Austin's range. It's delightful!

Tim Foust (Bass) is from my neck of the woods! Nederland, Texas, U.S.! I’ve played fill in guitar for his cousin’s country/new folk band a few times in the last few years, and Tim even came out to sing one time when he was off from tour. They did a closed seminar at my audio program in college back in 2013 too! I’m a metal guy, but I absolutely love Tim and the Rest of Home Free! Me and Tim still talk every now and then.

Home Free is one of the more versatile groups in that each member can sing different parts depending on the song. Even the beatboxer sings occasionally, and the other 4 have all done lead, harmony or even a little beatboxing depending on the song. You commented on how good his low C sounded but if you listen carefully at 2:35 you'll hear the low, low A, B flat, B, that leads into the low C. Fantastic quality. This arrangement so beautifully captures the mood of this style of music. On the second beat of each measure there is a Dum, Dum on the flat 7th degree of the scale that is just perfect for this style. Great video.

This song is a very old bluegrass song whose origins are lost in time. So, it is a simple song, like many folk songs. It became pretty popular when it was used in the 2000 movie, Oh, Brother Where Art Thou? That version was sung by Union Station, with Dan Tyminski on lead. George Clooney lip-sings it in the film. The entire soundtrack is wonderful, filled with great bluegrass vocals.

Tim Faust has many "starring" vocals in their music. Check out "Your Man". And for a surprise treat.....check out "MayDay" to fully appreciate their individual versatality . And catch Tim Faust and Peter Hollens "Misty Mountains".

Home Free All About That Bass
@billparrish4385
@billparrish4385 2 жыл бұрын
This song is a cover, not a Home Free original, however this arrangement of it certainly is. It was formally published in 1913, but was an American folk song of unknown origin long before that. More recently, it was widely popularized in the Coen brothers film _O Brother Where Art Thou (2000),_ a movie well worth checking out, about the adventures of 3 chain-gang convicts on the run, and their itinerant-guitarist 'accompanist' (a word that they, comically, have a hard time saying). These characters sing and play the song in the context of the story, but instead of actor George Clooney who lip syncs it, the actual lead vocalist is Dan Tyminski of American bluegrass and country band Union Station. The hapless quartet hear about a paid open mic at a nearby AM radio station, and scam the blind DJ, who pays by the head, that they have more band members than are actually present. There they sing this song, unaware the DJ is secretly recording them, and the track 'goes viral' -- or the 1937 equivalent. It's a really fun romp (loosely based on Homer's _Odyssey,_ in a Coen-brothers tongue-in-cheek sort of way), and well worth watching!

You have hit the jackpot of KZfaq Reactors, Home Free. I would say next on your Home Free journey should be Castle On the Hill. a cover of the Ed Sheeran song. They really showcase Austin, Chance and Tim in that one

I love your "Tim Face". You aren't the only one who does it, for sure. Listen immediately after that bass (Tim Foust) solo; he goes DOWN even lower when he joins the other group. Tim has a 5 octave range. He can sing some tenor, as well. Listen to Mayday. Your winking growler is Austin Brown. Check out his When a Man Oves a Woman.

This was the first Home Free song I heard as well, and it interested me in the group, then I heard Ring of Fire feat. Avi Kaplan of Pentatonix, and I was a Home Fry for life. Also a good one to listen to is How Great Thou Art, for a chance to hear all five voices singing in harmony.
