Hey Hey It's Saturday with Farnsy & Barnsy doing When Something Is Wrong With My Baby. The ending with Jimmy's Bro-in-law is fab For an untrained vocalist John is incredible. He keeps singing without any change to a song when bent over collecting bouquets & soft toys. Once a pair of granny knickers he said might just fit his Mother-in-law 😂

In case you hadn't figured it out, this is a Cold Chisel song, which Jimmy Barnes was the lead vocalist for (well, one of them, Ian Moss was the other but he also played guitar in the band). You do need to check out Cold Chisel - I'd recommend "Bow River" the live version from the In the Round concert. Will give you a chance to her Ian Moss, who is an amazing talent in his own right, and then of course Jimmy is there too, so you have two amazing vocalists in the same band.

You 100% need to Listen to their duet of when something is wrong with my baby. It’s exactly as you wished for. The official version is Amazing but their live performance on Hey Hey it’s Saturday was next level. Joined also by Diesel (Johnny Diesel) on guitar and vocals, brother in law of Jimmy and also a very loved and talented Aussie muso in his own right. Can’t believe you haven’t done this reaction yet. Oh, this is nice but... I really wish you'd listened to the Cold Chisel live Ringside version from 2003. It's a Cold Chisel song obviously and that version is amazing. Jimmy Barnes is one of the two lead singers in Cold Chisel on that song. He duets it with Mossy. You need to hear Mossy sing. 😊

The best live performance of this song is undoubtedly Cold Chisel’s 2003 recording from Ringside. I love Farnsey, but this song was written for Jimmy to sing with Ian Moss, and it’s absolutely magical.

FYI the female backing vocalist you can see is Venetta Fields. She began singing with the Ikettes as a girl and has since sung on albums by hundreds of famous artists from Dylan to Steely Dan to Pink Floyd, Quincy Jones, Diana Ross, Bette Midler, Rolling Stones and on and on and toured with many more but she really, really loved singing with John.

The song was written by Steve Prestwich RIP ❤. He was Cold Chisel’s drummer. It was written for the duel harmonies of Jimmy Barnes and Ian Moss (this is a gift from God) John Farnham adopted the song for all his live shows. Absolutely amazing rendition but if you want to hear why it was written you need to hear Cold Chisels version live at Ringside. Then you will have the full story.

John Farnham and Jimmy Barnes singing When Something is Wrong With My Baby from Jimmy's Soul Deep 1991 is a great duet by these two great Australian artists, Jimmy's brother-in-law Johnny Diesel plays the guitar solo as well as adds a late third voice to this performance.

I spent most of my life avoiding this. Because it was on the radio to death. Really good and refreshing experience in your own experience.

I absolutely agree with all the coments about When Something is Wrong With My Baby (Live. The version from Hey Hey it's Saturday)... but now that you have done John Farnham's cover of When the War is Over... John Farnham covering When the War is Over feat. Jimy Barnes.... kind feels like you now need to do Cold Chisel (ie: The band Jimmy Barnes is from) doing the song... since it is their song to begin with :P

You should also check out one of Jimmy Barnes's songs from his Christmas album from last year try Rocking around the Christmas Tree. This is a Christmas song like you've never heard before.

If you want a suggestion for another John Farnham duet, might I suggest "Angels" = A duet he did with Lisa Edwards, one of his long time back-up singers, (seen in many of his videos) and an amazing vocalist in her own right. She has an incredible voice, and her voice complements John's perfectly. Definitely worth an analysis IMHO. (it's also 'almost' cappella with only a couple of instruments to block out John's and Lisa's amazing voices)

As you are doing duets by John Farnham, I'd like to recommend his duet with Olivia Newton John singing Please Don't Ask Me from The Main Event Concert.

Jimmy Barnes later invited John Farnham to collaborate on he’s soul music tribute album Soul Deep released in 1991 with a cover of Sam & Dave song When Something Is Wrong . This version is one the greatest cover songs ever recorded the original is classic but Jimmy’s & John’s version is next level. When Something Is Wrong With My Baby peaked at 3 on the Australian charts. But with this song When The War Is Over it’s originally a Cold Chisel ( Jimmy Barnes is the lead singer) song from 1982 which was a top 20 hit in Australia . Jimmy shared the lead vocals with Cold Chisel guitarist Ian Moss who has a smoother clear tone vocals . But in 1983 When The War Is Over songwriter drummer Steve Prestwich left Cold Chisel just before the whole band decided to call it a day and go their separate ways after a massive Australian tour. Well Steve Prestwich joined the Little River Band while John Farnham was the lead singer in 1984 . But the Little River Band was financially in debt and only the songwriters was getting paid through royalties whatever money the band made went towards paying off their debts . So on LRB’s Playing To Win tour 1985 they added When The War Is Over to their set list . LRB added When The War Is Over to their last album to feature John Farnham on vocals No Reins 1986 . By the time the No Reins album was released John and Steve had left the band . LRB record company only released When The War Is Over as a single to capitalise on John resurgence with his solo career with successful You’re The Voice . With the lack of promotion with LRB in 1986/87 on hiatus When The War Is Over failed to chart . John did he’s best to promote it adding to his set list in the late 80’s . John record company in 1988 even requested John to re-record When The War Is Over again to be used as a B side and CD bonus track . John said in an interview that he was reluctant to re-record it again the recording company talked him into it . He believed that he was happy to leave his version with LRB catalogue . But he did love the song and wasn’t a fan of how LRB’s producer put the band through to record their version and to do his own version on totally on his terms he was comfortable with . This performance Jimmy said he isn’t happy with . He didn’t have anytime to prepare himself apparently and he hadn’t sang the song since Cold Chisel final concert 5 years earlier so he believed he was little rusty . Jimmy Barnes has also recorded his own solo versions as well one was for his life story documentary soundtrack Working Class Boy in 2018 .

Thanks for so knowledgeably appreciating 'our John' 😊 His audiences are incredibly loyal, and he gives 100% per cent in return. This song is a Cold Chisel classic. The original is a bit faster, but more understated. Worth checking out some time.

Now you should hear the original band playing this great song. Cold Chisel I would suggest the version from the Ringside tour.

I love them together on stage for this live performance and the purity of the note that John hits off camera at 8.40 is sublime. A powerful song which is rearranged for John’s voice. Many Cold Chisel fans prefer the original Jimmy/Ian version, but I like this rendition of the song too and even though it was written about a relationship break up, the song took on a different meaning for the young men who served in Vietnam.

This is absolutely the worst version of this song ever recorded and filmed live. Jimmy's version with his actual band, Cold Chisel is the definitive live performance. John's solo performances go in a different direction and are magnificent in his own way. This.. this is just Jimmy phoning it in after a hard day in the office. It's okay, but it's not what you'd expect.

You need to look at them sing together when theirs something wrong with my baby If you want to see them harmonise together They enjoy each other's singing and songs as well respect the effort it takes to make it Why they are friends and don't see each other as competition but rather see each other succeed If you watch the documentary on John Farnham there's interview with Jimmy speaking about John success Jimmy always knew John would make it at some stage and also herd him say I my John found he's voice look out Sadly John had been miss managed all his career until his mate Glen managed him Glen did it as thought it was a waste with the talent John had That no one had even herd his best and when ask so as his manager why where you successful in manager to John as others failed He replied John has always had abundant of talent but others restricted him to what they believed he should be Glen said I left John to do his thing I booked gigs and if John got to far out I'd have to rein him in due to budgets so we worked as a team Where John was free to do what he wanted with in the budget that's the only difference in managing John leave him to do what he loved Cheers 🦘🇦🇺👍
