To add some more info on this. As others have said, this is the theme song for Civilization IV, which is a series of games featuring cultures and leaders from many different nations throughout history. The composer of the song was Christopher Tin and it was performed by Rob Ragin and the Stanford Talisman. The song is a Middle Eastern prayer, sung in an African language, composed by an Asian-American, and performed by an American choir; making it a perfect fit as the theme song of the game.

"Baba Yetu" is "Our Father" in Swahili. The singer is Alex Boye, but he didn't write the song; the song was written by Christopher Tin as the opening animation soundtrack for the game Civilization IV, the first time a song written for a video game has ever won a grammy (actually it won two). Here's the original: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f7CZe6ee3s6pYXU.html

@@SpydaMikeHD With all due respect to the original poster, I believe that one piece of information that he posted is incorrect. I believe that the version of Baba Yetu that he posted the link to that features the Soweto Gospel Choir is NOT the original version of Baba Yetu. I believe that the original version of Baba Yetu was performed by Ron Ragin and The Stanford Talisman. You can listen to the original version of Baba Yetu, and see it in its original context that it was designed for - as the background music on the title screen of Civilization 4 - by watching the video that is linked to, just below: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nMB_iNaJks-vXWg.html

When I heard this song for the first time when Civ IV came out I watched the opening video and then closed the game out so I could go back in and listen to it. I started the game like four times before I actually played the game. lol. Out of the different versions I think Alex Boye singing this song was incredible.

Funny that your favorite church song was made for a video game.

Great, but as good as the Videogame original. It is quite more dramatic!

I wonder why all you vocal coach's do reaction to young "cover singers" but rarely do young song writers like Grace Vanderwaal
