I read that one of his Chinese competitors (he was 8.16) bought him a medicine for his throat - the so-called "liquid gold" - a very expensive medicine, used in very emergencies. Maybe the doctor gave him just this, I don't know, but Dimash said in an interview that he sang with great pain, and immediately lost his voice after the performance again. You're absolutely right, it wasn't his full voice - if you want to see this song sung in a really full, healthy voice - you have to see Daybreak version from Dimash's solo concert Bastau. Legendary concert performance. Epic. Thanks a lot

THANK YOU for watching the backstory (and sharing it). Too many reactors fail to understand what’s going on, which (to me) makes a HUGE difference! I love this performance, I admire how Dimash expressed the feelings of the song as if he lived through the tragic story. Dimash performed "Daybreak" at his Bastau concert (it's on his channel), he was healthy then and it's a wonderful performance and still I feel like the Singer performance touched me even more. There is a glitch in the video, the original video is also like this. Check out the Bastau performance to hear that part - it's gorgeous, one of the most emotional in the song!

So nice that you got the whole backstory before reacting. Those who haven't done so miss so much. Here's an early reminder for all Dears: The MTV youtube channel Friday Livestream resumes on June 4. With the effort of fans around the world Dimash has finished #1 in requests in 9 of the past 10 weeks. In order to keep him on top (and to get two of his music videos played instead of just one) we need to show up en masse and type REQUEST DIMASH as many times as possible in the chat during the three hour program. The MTV Friday Livestream appears on youtube every Friday from 5-8 pm New York time (don't forget to calculate your time zone differences). Dimash has dreams of being as recognized in the western world as he is in the East. Let's help him achieve that goal by giving something back to him in return for all he has given to us.

Dimash needs every vote he can get so simply type REQUEST DIMASH in capital letters-----and do it over and over and over again during all three hours of the program----especially during the last hour when the fans of the others artists are voting heavily in an attempt to dislodge Dimash from the top position.

Hi Jacob, I'm so pleased you chose this version of Daybreak. Sooo... this is what Dimash sounds like on a 'bad' day...wonderful isn't it?!!! (Yes, he had 2 steroid injections into his throat at the hospital. The organisers of the show wanted him to not sing that day, but our stubborn Dimash refused to do that!) Thank you for doing your usual thorough background research, so many reactors don't and then end up stopping and asking annoying questions all the way through! Some even grin and joke because they don't know the tragedy behind this heart-breaking song...I hate that! Footnote; I love the way he chose to dress like a young child remembering that terrible day. Gloria Wu rocks, and so do you!

In an interview with Dimash's mother, she said at the time this accident really happened he cried and shook over this news for many hours. He was a young boy. She said he always feels everything with such intensity.

You said in one of your videos that you think the other competitors were jealous of Dimash. The way I saw it, he was probably the only one who never congratulated him or hugged him like the others. Terry Lin treated Dimash as a fatherly friend, he even visited him in Beijing on Christmas 2018 and brought him a cake for his two-year anniversary, as it was two years since he had arrived in China for the Singer competition. And they met again later, performing at each other's concerts. And the others also sent him a video message for the anniversary. They loved Dimash, they were not jealous or envious. Maybe just the one who always backed off so spectacularly.

For those who love Dimash, another must see singer is Zhou Shen from China. Because of his small stature, feminine disposition and voice, he was often bullied in school. Never thinking that he had what it takes to be a singer, he went tot he Ukraine to become a dentist. While there, he was convinced that he did have a great singing ability, thus transferred his major to music. Thank goodness he did. As an introduction into Zhou "Charlie" Shen, begin with his premiere performance on the Voice of China singing HuanYan. After this first video, move on to his versions of "Memory", and/or "Time to Say Goodbye". To see his versatility to genres, have fun watching him in "Ring the Doorbell", and the ever so much fun song, "Da La Beng Ba" where he sings in five voices, and the haunting song "Ring the Doorbell". For something different from him, watch his version of "Let It Go" where he sings in 5 (?) languages. and his version of "Monsters".

Dimash tells that before going on stage he could barely talk, on stage he fell an awful throat pain and after singing his voice disappeared again. I guess his face of pain was quite real here.

The story is so sad, but how proud Dimash must have been to sing this song in Chinese and in front of a Chinese audience. He used all he had for an astounding performance. That's part of what makes him so special.

Daybreak is one of the most emotional songs I ever heard. This performance made me a dear. The fact that this catastrophe just happened again in Italy, where only a 5 year old boy survived the cable car accident and lost his parents and his grandparents (as far as I know) makes this song even more current. I love how Dimash transports the emotion of this boy. He really IS this boy. I love it. Even though the Bastau version is sung better, I prefer this version because of the emotion.

When he did his song Know in 2019 he took the time to send a messafe to his sister since that day she was turning 18. Imagine big brother sending his little sister a message from Russia to her home in Kazakhstan. Really cool.

Thank you for accepting our suggestions on back stories, on Gloria Wu channel dear Jacob. Many reactors do not, but it is their lost . Thank you for continuing through this series. Yes, some of his post-competition performances are better, but i personally love that your willing to explore an artist from the beginning with us. Thank you for your heartfelt reaction:) This song really requires the background story and also knowing that Dimash was sick - an impressive performance indeed! I recommend to see the 'Daybreak' Dimash later sang at his 'Bastau' concert in july 2017. Just because it's truly an epic performance. Dimash usually evolves in his songs when he continues to sing them. But that 'Daybreak' performance was so epic I really doubt if he will never top that. (He then sang the song at a couple of concerts in China, but it's not in his concert repertoire anymore.)
