Hello @ Rise Academy! Nightwish Army incoming here, your reaction just appeared on our radar.. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing in Wacken Open Air 2013, in front of 82k+ metal fans. Your reaction speak for itself, you love it.. :) Since this is your first Nightwish experience, I'll give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan: " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrulmentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " Other Nightwish songs with the current lineup of the band you may like: "Ever Dream" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z76ZZ9FpybDHdmw.html "Song Of Myself" live at Wacken 2013 (dark/metal) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/orelaLSbzsqsh5s.html "Storytime" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ptybjNqAr8Czfok.html "Romanticide" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sOCParJ0qLfQiKc.html "Dead Boy's Poem" - live Buenos Aires 2018 (soulful ballad) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iZ51Zq9ozM2wfYE.html "Ghost River" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZpuVnNeVkqulZn0.html "My Walden" live at Wembley 2015 (celtic / folk) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/odShmKxplZ2-nI0.html "Sleeping Sun"live at Tampere 2015 (ballad) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qNmfp8-r15_bfqs.html "Stargazer" live at Tampere 2015 (operatic vocals / metal) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hM51qKSBvtPDhZs.html "Slaying The Dreamer" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/radkZ9ebxraZnmQ.html "I Want My Tears Back" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (celtic / folk vibe) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eJeFncqg38utgIU.html "Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean" live In Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qphmpcKnpr-1YIU.html "Weak Fantasy" live at Tampere 2015 (dark metal) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d7RiZpyBx9fGmqM.html "7 Days To The Wolves" live at Wembley 2015 (dark metal) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jtyjmdpytci7iJc.html And if you want to hear Floor growling :) then try "Yours Is An Empty Hope" live at Wembley 2015 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rN98prhotpmXY58.html Last but not the least - they just released their 9th studio album on April 10th named "Human :||: Nature" - just take a peek to their official playlist: kzfaq.info/sun/PLihZ3gi5Yvzc0pfH2cbNKUUX8o3pb8eVg You can also react to Floor Jansen's performances in Beste Zangers 2019 (TV show from Netherlands - you did The Phantom already), here is a playlist made by Floor herself (start listen it in reverse order..): kzfaq.info/sun/PL8iSYWeQhlimgUnWw1FDdiJN0msPzqpLo Thank you! Best female( and most versatile) singer in the world period! and can you imagine that most people here in the netherlands( as she is dutch) found this really out in 2019( this was wacken 2013)?.. As she performed on dutch tv show beste zangers...all of her performances were amazing( and the faces of anazement of the fellow dutch singers priceless) she did it all, opera,pop, in german in dutch in english and even in spanish..with the highlight the best phantom of the opera performance ever she did with henk poort..you will be amazed check it out!

Most versatile? Maybe. Best? A very risky statement. She is good at everything, but against a top notch specialist of a certain style she would definitely lose. Let her sing the Queen of the night against Anna Netrebko, and I would bet on Anna. Let her sing the Phantom of the Opera against Sarah Brightman, and Sarah would win. And let her sing Wishwaster against Tarja, and Tarja would win.

@@Nikioko turn it around and then ask yourself, could all the performers you sum up do the same as floor. Hell no the cant. They are hooked in one style while floor can sing everthing. So compare to specialists is dumb as hell. So no pont taken . Show me each of them do the same at any style and do it better then floor you win. But i can tell you right now you loose big time. Btw my 2 cents on your topic.
@Nikioko
@Nikioko 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheGrimmReaper1 You obviously don't get the point and seemingly don't want to get it. I invited you to look for new horizons but you prefer to stay in familiar waters and claim to have seen the world although yyou know so little. "Floor can sing everything" is just a statement that can easily be denied. Just a drop in a lake. Sure she can do a lot, but by far she can't do everything. I really would like to listen to her singing in a vocal ensemble where she has to sing with 3, 5 or 7 other people. She has a very strong and dominant voice which is absolutely unsuitable for that. I heard from an opera choir director that the most difficult thing is to form 20 or 40 professionals to a unit. The stronger the vibrato, the bigger the difficulty. Another point: If you study music, or anything else, you eventually reach the point where you have to specialise. Just because other people work in that niche they have chosen doesn't mean that they can't do anything else. I recently heard in a video about a comparison with Pat Benatar. Well, Pat Banatar has her typical rock style of singing we know from the 80s, but she is also a studied opera singer like her mother. So, just because she doesn't sing opera doesn't mean she can't. There is a difference between what people can do and what they actually do. Floor does a lot and shows a lot, but there are also things she doesn't do. All these examples when she sings "operatic": Tarja is an opera singer singing the traditional style (though she took some pop lessons), Floor isn't. She sings something that sounds somewhat like opera but in fact isn't. Floor is more like a musical theatre cross-over singer like Sarah Brightman. I hope you know that The Phantom of the Opera isn't an opera but a musical. Voice is such an individual instrument that in the high end the technical differences are marginal but the individual anatomy maked them distinguishable. And finally you haven't understood Nightwish's song. In The Greatest Show on Earth, they quote Dawkins: "But who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Sahara. Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton." And of course singers greater than Floor. She is truly a great singer but definitely not the best singer in the world. At least not by valid standards.

@@Nikioko hihihi. Unborn and then greater then. ???? Oh i know phantom is a musical.! And i didnt say floor is the greatest. Only she can do more then you give her credit for. The nice thing for a vocal coach reacting to Nightwish is, any performance from this Wacken show, the Wembley or Tampere ones in 2015 or the Buenos Aires one are fantastic and will cover a multitude of vocal techniques, range, syncopation, etc. you name it she sings it. Also she was on a TV show in her home country of the Netherlands called Beste Zingers, where she covered songs from other artists, in numerous music styles, from an aria, to a musical, to latin music, to Lady Gaga, etc. which are all fantastic. 😀

FYI: There were 82,000+ in the audience that night. GLS is the 13th of 15 songs that NW performed that night. I would recommend either 'Ever Dream' or 'Storytime' from the same concert. For your next Nightwish reaction. Floor Jansen is the 3rd and still current female lead singer of Nightwish (est. 1996) She had been with the band for little over 10 months at the time of this concert on 03 August 2013, when she was 32. Starting from the age of 16 she had been the lead singer in two other S. Metal Bands, 'After Forever' & 'Revamp' before joining NW. Those goosebumps and chills are known as 'Floorgasms' to NW fans.

Greetings from Finland. Floor is not classically trained in the full meaning of the words. She only studied musical theater & opera part-time for two years, but quit because she wanted to have more freedom to experiment with her vocals & mix different styles of singing. She's also a vocal coach, but nowadays she's too busy with Nightwish & her other projects to practice any coaching. She's most likely the most versatile & talented female metal vocalist of our time.

I think that's the most detail I've heard her go into about her training. As for Rock Academy, she had said many times it was not quite adequate,, she was already with AF and was not getting what she needed. Tuomas, keyboard, is not a songwriter - he is a composer, and one of the worlds best currently - this is a well-known fact. Therefore, don't ever use fast forward or skip something in transitions, build-ups or between chapters - you will miss points. Nightwish are 6 extremely pro musicians, from Tuomas acknowledged as one of the best composers in the world - to Floor, acknowledged as the greatest, most powerful, versatile female singer currently in the world - she is a voice nerd, who develops her own voice techniques, and she has also incredible dialog with the audience. There are two other really really pro singers in the band, and together those 3 are unique on the Symphonic Metal scene today. A funfact is that the previous singer was ill during a concert in Denver. Two vocalist from Camelot jumped in and did the concert holding papers in their hand with the lyric, but after that they asked Floor if she could help the band. Problem was.. she had 48 hours to learn the whole setup with lyrics and so before the first concert.. and nailed it :) And please react to Sabaton ;)

Them being symphonic metal allows them to take their music in several different directions. They have the long epic multipart full production type songs like Ghost Love Score, The Poet and the Pendulum or The Greatest Show on Earth.. Then they have several of the more classic thrash heavy metal style songs like Romanticide, Song of Myself or Dark Chest of Wonders.. They even have a very celtic rock sound going on in songs like E'lan or My Walden.. You chose, but the Nightwish Army loves it all..

The comment on her Xena warrior outfit was spot on. It was her nickname, her friends nickname was Gabriel (Simone Simons) She is the leas singer of the band Epica The guitarist of that band used to play in the same band as Floor Jansen. For more of the classical-modern mix, please have a listen to Epica. I nominate "Consign to oblivion", this is from early in their career, in 2006, when the singer probably put more emphasis on the classical style than she does now. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aZaol9Jlu76WqHU.html

Some of these comments are hilarious!! Self appointed Nightwish ambassadors, how to instructions for someone else's channel and complaining about skipping a time fill which is ear candy to me, but not part of a voice reaction obviously. If everyone was as smart as these people the world would be a better place.... All that nonsense aside, I enjoyed this reaction and I like watching you when you enjoy a song, it is a treat for me. I love this song and have seen dozens of reactions to it and watched the video on its own several times. These guys are great musicians, and Floor Jansen is an excellent singer. I don't know off hand any current live performances I would like to see, but if I could turn back time, I would love to see Pink Floyd, Boston, Rush, Tears For Fears, or the Alan Parsons Project live. I could go on and on with the list, but those are the top bands that come to mind at the moment. Stay safe out there and thanks for sharing this reaction!

I actually have tickets (that were postponed) to see Jinjer and another concert in Vegas with Scorpions and Queensryche. I'm hoping at some point I'll be able to see them. I'm betting on it by not asking for a refund in fear that tickets will double or more when this pandemic is over.

Actually, Floor's had very little (year or two at most) straight opera training, and has said it's not her favorite style. Even in this song, she doesn't really do much of it. Check out the Tampere '15 version of Stargazers or Villa Leid from Beste Zangers to see her go "full" opera. Oh, and as for the G3 & Guthrie Govan shoutouts...um, will you marry me hahaha? Guthrie is an amazing players (same with Satch, Vai, and Lukather). I've seen a couple of the G3 shows over the years...they're always great. Saw Vai on his last tour...great show, but *crushingly* loud. I usually don't use ear plugs, but I was wishing I had 'em for that show. I didn't get a pick from Steve, but I did snag a drumstick from Jeremy Colson \m/

Guys, Cut Coach Tina a little slack here for fast-forwarding slightly through the interlude, by doing so indicates that this was her first viewing and she wouldn't have known how long it would last !! If you have a look at her other reactions, most are not more than 6 minutes, so this was a biggie 😉 As for the "girl" comment, I'm sure Floor would be flattered, considering she was 32 at the time 😊😊 In my opinion Tina gave a fair, honest and respectful critique to a performance and performers she had never experienced before !! By her comments at the end I think she really enjoyed it !! 😊😊

@@slash-1971 If a reactor is disrespectful, a fan of any band or artist won't like it. Nightwish has pretty big and active fanbase here in KZfaq so it's easy to label them as "intolerant". :) But they will also encourage other people to keep exploring the music when they see them falling in live with the band. We are a family. ^_^

Great reaction. As you can see, Nightwish has some rabidly fanatical fans. When we get a little defensive, just skip the comment. Skip, pause, comment over as you need. We all own the song, so if we want to hear it uninterrupted, we can pull up our own playlists, like mature adults. A good reaction is one without any preconceptions of the song, artists, and band history, and you gave us exactly that. Thank you!

Amy Lee? This was a league above Amy Lee. ;-) It is funny that it seems that in the US people only know Evanascence. In Europe, there are many symphonic metal bands with a female singer: Epica, The Gathering, Within Temptation, Haggard, Rhapsody of Fire, Therion, Xandria, Delain etc. You might want to listen to one of these. And most of these bands are either from Sweden, Finland, Germany or the Netherlands.

Re: Q: Live show I would most like to see?: Currently there is no show on earth that can beat Rammstein. Here is a link to one of the best fan-shot videos I have found from their recent tour: KZfaq.com/watch?v=Bzy5C4xwhvU. Or the best example of the sheer size of their massive light and pyrotechnics display: KZfaq.com/watch?v=ST6qj-v-8Ys. For Symphonic Metal, I might enjoy watching "Imperial Age" from Russia. Three singers: two female soprano and one male tenor: see esp. their recent "Official Video -- Legacy of Atlantis": KZfaq.com/watch?v=uv-yZkRd0fE. Co-founder Evgeniya (Jane) Odintsova was previously a medical doctor in Russia (gynecologist), leaving that for opera and co-founding the band in 2012. Fellow soprano Anna Moiseeva is a classical pianist (she posts videos of this on her webpage), who completed the basic 4-year music degree at her local college, then entered, and in 2019 successfully completed, the further 5-year Specialist Degree: "Director of Musical Theater" at the Russian Institute of Theater Arts in Moscow (GITIS). The video uses a backing orchestra and choir; I don't know which orchestra, but the choir used was the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory Chamber Choir, conducted by Taras Yasenkov, Assistant Professor at the Moscow State Conservatory. (Do you have any opinions on the GITIS institute or the Moscow State Conservatory -- e.g. high, low, medium quality training?). Hope this helps; have a great weekend!
