JUJHAR SINGH his name is Jukka Nevalainen. He may not be the best drummer in the world, but he put his soul in every note. He was perfect for Nightwish, but some insomnia health problems made him leave the band - he’s a kind of its manager nowadays -. His replacement, Kai Hahto, is an excellent drummer, but lacks the ‘soul’ element Jukka inherently had - from my point of view obviously -.

Jukka is probably among the best dynamic drummers.. As you said: far from the fastest and technical (though what he does is far above average), he knocks those drums so hard you could ask yourself if he did it for his life? This gives an extra knack to the drums. It's a style that suits symphonis music fine and give resemblance to those hardhitting dynamic percussions.

Hello, Michal Towber! Nightwish Army incoming here, just found your reaction on our radar.. As I could see, you enjoyed the music and the interpretation, and you are pretty well informed about the lead singer, Floor Jansen. Your technical comments were on point and informative, you are natural in explaining things. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, I make my duty to give you some info that may help you navigate (a short history of the band, concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a female fronted symphonic metal band. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrulmentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just saw her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " Another songs you may like are: "Romanticide" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sOCParJ0qLfQiKc.html "Dead Boy's Poem" - live Buenos Aires 2018 (soulful ballad) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iZ51Zq9ozM2wfYE.html "Ever Dream" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j913hqR3xtisgps.html "Storytime" live at Tampere 2015 (uplifting vocals) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o7VmYLqcvbC9iGQ.html "Sleeping Sun" live at Tampere 2015 (slow ballad) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qNmfp8-r15_bfqs.html "My Walden" live at Tampere 2015 (celtic / folk) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gJ6IqtVi0LqplJ8.html "Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean" live In Buenos Aires 2018 (epic/metal) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qphmpcKnpr-1YIU.html And if you want to hear Floor growling :) then try "Yours Is An Empty Hope" live at Wembley 2015 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rN98prhotpmXY58.html Or you could react to some of Floor Jansen's performances in Beste Zangers 2019 show (6 covers + 2 duets, singing songs from other genres, usually with a "touch" of metal..) Now that you've discovered Nightwish, you will find your self "naturally drawn" to this genre from now on. Trust that from a girl who couldn't give metal the time of day before last year. If metal is not really the music you're drawn to, try one of their less metal songs. A good choice would be Sleeping Sun, live at Tampere 2015. However, if you want to see more of her stage presence and power projection, a bit more active than here, try either Yours Is An Empty Hope (live at Wembley or on the Nightwish Cruise) or 7 Days to the Wolves (live at Wembley). She also growls in the first one, and the second is best described as Xena the Musical performed by a Berserker Amazon.

Floor always stays classy and in an age where cultural trash is the norm, it is really nice to see. Even when Floor is being seductive, she remains classy. One thing to note, while Floor is singing in a feminine way over all that testosterone, she is standing in front of the audience in a male power stance, projecting power and authority. It says, "I'm in charge." Judging by the interviews the band has given, she has struck a very skillful balance between remaining a lady and at the same time being one of the guys. Along with her obvious talent, this is probably a major reason for her continued success with Nightwish.

The director had the Leni Riefenstahl technique going. Most of the camera shots of her were from below looking up to give her the look of a Teutonic giant goddess. The audience was shot from above and the band was shot flat. Brilliant.

He's really talented multi-instrumentalist from the UK. He has worked with NW since 2006 or -07 as a session player and he became a permanent member at the same time with Floor, October 2013. Of course there's also an epic song of all epics, magnificent song about the birth of universe and birth of life on Earth: song called the Greatest Show On Earth, live at Tampere 2015 also. If one was to describe Floor Jansen in one word it would have to be, "versatile". She was recently on a Dutch reality show with other singers from the Netherlands and she covered a song from an operetta, a modern "Dutch Folk" song , an intimate version of "Shallow" from Lady Gaga, and a "Phantom of the Opera" duet. She had her fellow cast-mates variously in awe or in tears. Sincerity is Floor's main strength as a vocalist and as a person.

Came across your review and have to say that was very well done. Nightwish is a group I stumbled on about 6 years ago and got just addicted. Composition, quality, voice are all out of this world. Floor is so good and can do so many genres. You might want to listen to Euphoria (a song festival song she is performing in a Dutch singers TV programme “Beste Zanger”) or else listen to 2 very contrasting songs: story time and dead boy’s poem. That illustrates Floor’s capabilities. Anyhow thank you for your your good and very pleasant review

Enjoyed all your comments on GLS, Michal. After many months of watching Gaga and Freddie Mercury performances, I was at a loss on where to turn to next, and noticed by accident that many reactors were reviewing NW performances. After 6 months of NW I still haven't had enough and fortunately they are coming out with a new album and touring again in 2020. Nightwish is arguably the most creative band on the planet and every song is vastly different with surprises within each song. You'll undoubtedly receive many recommendations to tune into their other two epic plays "The Poet and the Pendulum" (Live Wembley 2016) and the "Greatest Show on Earth", but you should also check out Floor's recent performances on the show "Beste Zangers Live 2019" (Best Singers) in which she sings in 5 different genres and 5 different languages. The show starts off with Floor's "Vilja Lied" fangirl tribute to her opera idol, Henk Poort, who is also on the show. Her symphonic metal "Phantom of the Opera" duet with Henk that ends the show is a masterpiece, but so is her remake of Gaga's "Shallow".

You are assertive in your descripcion of what it is going on with the music and the interaction within the band, you know what you're talking about and just explain it in a way that we people with little knowledge about singing technique can easily understand. Congratulations.

On a technical note: your microphone volume level is simply too low to hear what you are saying while the music plays. Now it's more like watching someone do mime. Crank up the microphone volume more so we can actually hear your lovely voice. :o)

Another option would be to add text of what you are thinking or feeling in the upper right corner when you edit the video. That way we know what you are saying or thinking, but we don't hear your voice competing with the song.

I heard you mention what people often refer to Floor as (Valkyrie, Wonder Woman ETC) but it's not JUST because of the stage outfit. Floor is a legit SIX FEET tall which is taller than a lot of MEN I know. She just towers over most people and many of her fans could very easily picture her in some sort of armor on a winged horse with a shield and spear choosing the slain.

You need some "Beste Zangers" in your life. Dutch TV show where a group of singers from different genres hang out for a couple of weeks. Each day one of them is the focus of the show and the others all get to sing a song for them. Maybe one of that person's songs, maybe one they love, maybe a childhood favourite. Not a competition, just for the love of singing. Floor did the 2019 show and blew everyone away. It's very popular among reactors especially as it's so intimately filmed that you can really study her technique closely. She also does a variety of different types of music (and in different languages!). Her cover of Shallow hit the Dutch charts and her duet with Henk Poort doing Phantom of the Opera had fans ecstatic. Worth treating yourself to Henk's cover of the Disturbed version of Sound of Silence as well. He's a veteran opera / musical theatre legend in The Netherlands and played The Phantom professionally for years. All the singers on it are great. A KZfaqr called Denise Hofs has posted the full episodes with English subtitles. The Beste Zangers YT channel has all the videos of the songs themselves though without any of the story around each one. Enjoy!

Exploring their work and for what i heard so far (in 3weeks time) it isn't that metal,has definitelly metal influences but it begins with the singers who were and are so far ahead of other singers in the genre, songs have so many excitings aspects, refined structures,switches, are at times mesmerizing, making you emotional, make you cry at times. There's already a genre called dreampop, i would call their music Dreamrock. Ghost love score,Poet and the pendulum,sleeping sun, eva, phantom of the opera are the songs i have heard so far and i'm not gonna stop my journey that has been wonderful so far.

Being Symphonic Metal allows them to take their music in several different directions. They have the huge epis multipart masterpiece production songs like this or "the poet and the pendulum" or "The greatest show on earth". They have several of the more classic heavy thrash metal sound in songs like "Romanticide" or "Song of Myself" or Dark Chest of Wonders".. they even have a very celtic rock sound on songs like "E'lan" and "the Walden".. Your choice, take your pick or like us, love it all..

idk your age but Floor was 33 in this, the Founder/bandleader/organist Tuomas Holopainen's greatest work up to that point. Tarja Turunen sang it the night before she was dismissed from the band. Your analysis of Floor's vocal techniques was extremely well done, minus a few points involving the throat and other things connected to vocal techniques. She spent some time in a Dutch opera school(she was born in Holland)plus private lessons so she was taught everything she needed to know. The only opera singer I know that has more operatic techniques than Floor is Mezzo Cecilia Bartoli.

Actually, given that Wacken Open Air was in front of 82,000 people, I'm thinking Floor needed some last-minute confidence boosting. Keep in mind: Her biggest fear was "completely fucking it up" (from the documentary "Please Learn the Setlist in 48 Hours) -- and one of her favorite songs to sing is GLS. She needed a confidence booster because she wasn't yet a year out of her burnout, to spite touring with Nightwish since September 2012. I'm thinking that Floor went backstage, and then everybody came back as well. Conversation went like this: Floor: Hey guys. You think I'm doing okay? Troy: Bloody brilliant, Floor -- you've got this. You know the song, just trust yourself to sing it. And we're all behind you. Floor: You really think so? Tuomas: Yes, we do. And as Troy said, you can do this. We have faith in you.

@@isaiahwelch8066 I don’t think so. Look at how she smiles on stage. She is having a lot of fun. Floor was already with the band for 10 months at this point and the band had told her two days before this concert that they wanted to keep her. So I don’t think her confidence needed any boosting at this point. Not any more. It’s the other way around actually. The band has stated that Floor gave the band a lot of confidence when she joined. And don’t forget that she already had a 16 year carreer in heavy metal when she was asked to join. In that time she had already played many big metal festival stages before with her previous bands so she was already used to big audiences.
@isaiahwelch8066
@isaiahwelch8066 4 жыл бұрын
@@treintje1001 Eh, you could be right. But the other thing is, Floor also wanted to be accepted by the fans as well. One of the things I've always thought is that her performance here, wasn't so much for the band, as it was for the fans. She even says as much in the documentary, that she wasn't Tarja or Annette, and that yes, she was replacing them -- but she wanted to be her own singer. Which tells me that this performance of GLS was an audition, so to speak, for the fans missing Annette (little in number though they are) and Tarja (hence the hardcore fans always saying "Tarja is better, and Floor doesn't measure up"). With now at least 6 years accumulated being with Nightwish, and Floor knocking out iconic songs -- GLS from Wacken 2013, Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean, Buenos Aires, 2018, and her duet with Henk Poort singing "Phantom of the Opera," I've noticed that more and more, Floor is proving, meritoriously, that she is just as good, if not better than, Tarja. But the point remains: GLS from Wacken 2013 wasn't so much an audition for the band as it was for those fans that were still grieving over the loss of Tarja. Which is why you hear so much emotion from her at the end of the song.

I have seen several reactions of Ghost Love Score recently and I have my own ideas, being a Nightwish fan, and your reaction was the most insightful. You may also consider 'the Greatest Show on Earth', which is more of a symphony style (their third 'symphony'), but it is a little longer. Or you may also want to listen to Nightwish with Tarja, their first singer (who sings like an angel in my opinion), maybe Swanheart. Excellent, thank you.
