@@tarmotyyri6733 I guess they are also happy with her as a person. She's a fun person, and has a lot of integrity with the band she sings with. You can see that she knows how to take the stage, but also when to step back to let others have the stage dominance. Essentially... She's not an egocentric type of person, that's another point why they appreciate her so much in the band.

I can imagine Floor's students are in aww with her knowing she is part of an international band. Excellent reaction. One thing, this isn't a performance that (at this time) Floor had done enough times to be second nature. This was one of her earliest performances of the song. Floor wasn't even actually with the band as yet, though this performance among others really cemented that position.

This is quite wrong. Floor joined Nightwish in october of 2012, about 10 months before this concert (august 2013), and it was in the middle of a world tour, so she had plenty of performances before Wacken, including several festivals. If you want to see a really early version of Ghost Love Score, watch the official video in Buenos Aires, that was in december of 2012.

The odd thing about this, is that she hadnt actually done the song over and over yet too many times, she was a new addition to the band added mid tour. This is the first time most that crowd had actually heard her singing with the band, and this was the first time she hit that high note at the end. This was all pure raw talent, not practiced.

Thank you! As a musician myself and thus someone who has gone through several years of actual speech and singing tuition by a competent voice coach I´m pleased to see that you are appreciative of Floor´s mighty abilities without being floored ( yes, pun intended ) and awestruck but rather acknowledging her command of her craft sending the signal to the rest of us that this can actually be achieved by most of us with dilligent work and strict discipline to go along with your talent,- men and women alike. Arnold Schwarzenegger once stated: "The recipe for failiure is to be over-confident and under- prepared! Everything is repetition, repetition, repetition and more repetition." I think Floor in this performance and you in your analysis of it just proved his point. Thank you! I can´t wait to check out your take on Tarja,- gonna be good!

This woman is a qualified vocal coach, knows what she is saying and unlike the most of the "reactioneers" on YT knows that Floor isn't the only person in history of music who can sing GLS like that. Check also her reaction to Phantom of the Opera from End of an Era. She is literally the only person on YT who did a full commentary about both Marco and Tarja, and you can tell that she does her job very well by the fact that she detected immediately a slightly sharp note, which proves that the performance was actually live.

About Floor Jansen: What you were saying about focus and being able to let go at the same time, I believe turned into a lesson; "The Force is strong with this one." She just does it. No hesitation during a performance (maybe beforehand but not WHILE ON STAGE), just take the leap and go. She's a total natural at shows, one of the world's greatest stage performers. Really enjoyed the explanations and how you noted the transitions between the styles that Floor does so seamlessly. Loved your comment on Jukka's drumming in the beginning, especially the unusual rhythm that is "missing an 8th." Concerning the strings and other instruments, such as the claranet you mentioned and the brass instruments you did not- and the choir- Nightwish is part of a genre called Symphonic Metal. It i snot uncommon for these bands (especially Nightwish) to blend the symphonic/orchestral and choir sounds into their own playing. Regarding the length of the song, many Nightwish songs are not this long, but a couple are even longer, and would be worth listening to and even reacting to. Poet and the Pendulum is roughly 15 minutes long. There is a rather deeply emotional story behind that one, and every moment of it is in the song. It has five different acts to it.This is a really great version (IMHO). It contains the full stage performance, plus discreetly added act titles and the lyrics. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n6uqjbV-2c7MiIk.html I'd wholly recommend this for a reaction. With respect to the comment about being able to only make the seamless transitions transitions between styles when one is VERY familiar with the song, my recommendation is to \listen to the Buenos Aires performance here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aciilsml2cnMqnU.html What is interesting about this version is that Floor had been with the band only about 2-3 months at the time of the performance. It is somewhat more raw than Wacken Open Air, but not by a great deal (in my opinion as someone with extremely limited musical training and knowledge.) A very good performance by her and one in which she does do the transitions through the vocal styles. Also, I may be mistaken on this, but I think this is the first time she incorporated the 'Floorgasm' (what fans lovingly refer to the very high note at the end) into the song. Even Emppu (the guitarist) reacts to it. Well worth viewing. I would not mind seeing a comparison video evaluating the two performances (Buenos Aires and Wacken).

Hi Freya Casey, I am pleasantly surprised by your expert analysis. It is a running commentary that reminds me of radio soccer reporters in the 1970's, covering the play almost kick to kick! And you sometimes even manage to speak BETWEEN the notes. Matches Floor'r agility!

Thanks Freya for reacting to it. Great analysis once again. Glad that you liked it. Floor is an amazing singer, one of the most versatile singer in the metal scene. That high note at the end, is what we Nightwish fans call Floorgasm. Please do react to Epica - Sancta Terra (ft Floor Jansen) live at Retrospect.

Man! You just demonstrated that you CAN review a song to death. Listen to other “reactors” here on The Tube and find some that you like and others who you would never listen to a second time. Even coaches have to learn something now and then. (And the do’s and don’t’s are your key to success. Remember, there are a lot of reactors out there, both coaches and self-appointed critics.)

I have seen lots of videos of vocal teachers discussing this song and Floor's technique. This song was actually originally recorded with their original Vocalist Tarja Turunen and I would love to see a video where someone goes through pieces of both versions and compares their techniques (Tarja was more classically trained opera) and approaches to this song.

Except that Floor didn't need to do this song many, many times to get that second-nature performance. She was called by surprise in the middle of the night and asked if she could hop on a plane to the U.S. in the morning and meet them in Seattle to rescue their suddenly endangered world tour midstream. The title of the DVD which documents her joining the band is literally titled, "Please Learn The Setlist In 48 Hours." No kidding! And she said later in an interview that she was standing backstage in Seattle before her first walkout onto stage "$#!++ing her pants" with fear that the audience of heartbroken Tarja fans would reject her and hate her. But she bravely walked out, opened her mouth in absolute perfection, the fans fell instantly in love, and the rest is history! :D ---Cheers!

There a great fan video of her thanking the fans of Seattle 3.5 years after she stepped out into the void to win everyone over. The Video (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rM6ml92SuLO2poU.html) shows a typical Floor, funny, honest, real and interacting with the fans and thanking them. She is such a great person, so humble despite being blessed with such great talent. She is very self-assured so no need for a large ego to compensate either, no wonder the band members all love being around her and she get requests for duets and collaborations from many bands and projects.

Freya, Hello from USA! I just watched your reaction of Nightwish especially Floor Jansen's vocals. I have been watching Nightwish's songs on KZfaq since last year. I heard of Nightwish before but never seen or heard their songs until last year. I did some research on the band. Nightwish, as you know is from Finland with keyboardist named Tuomas who is also the founder with guitarist, Emppu, bassist, Marco or Markko, and drummer, Jukka. Jukka had a leave of absent for health reasons, but he runs day to day operations for the band. They have another drummer, Kai Hahto stepped in for their tours. Floor, current singer is part of 3 singers who sang for Nightwish with Tarja Turunen(1996 to 2005), Anette Olzon (2007 to 2012) and Floor Jansen (2013 to present) As I mentioned to others that Nightwish are currently in studios recording their next album to be released in Spring of 2020.

If you like Floor's singing, check out her previous band (ReVamp), the one before that (After Forever) or her rock band (Northward). She has also performed guest vocals with many others (Ayreon, Within Temptation, etc.) She is so versatile and absolutely incredible...ans such a commanding stage presence too! An excellent singer and charismatic front-person. Cheers!

So much truth about that focus and 'being in the zone' and the rest of the world disappearing. I tried some singing in a band when I was a student and self-consciousnesses basically ruined my singing. In the end it got to the point I decided I just wasn't good enough and quit.
