Oh wow, this was Sia's early days, long before she started covering her face with the wig. Sia and Florence Welch are far and away my favorite female artists. Their voices, visuals, and stage presence are out of this world!

My favorite version of this song is when Sia sang it on KCRW in 2007 (which is also here on KZfaq). She gave the song so much of her heart in that session , and the very end where she wails out showcased her voice so well ! You could really tell she was reliving the emotions that caused her to write the song in the first place.

I was introduced to this song (and Sia) during the series finale of Six Feet Under. This song perfectly captures the heartbreak and sadness of that final episode and will forever be tied to that show for me. My wife loves Sia and still can't listen to this song all these years later.

Best final TV scene and maybe the best 6 minutes of TV ever. Cried my way right through it, plus two hours crying and pondering after, and her song has a lot to do with it. My first conscious hearing of Sia ever (I later found out that she did the vocals on Somersault by Zero 7).

I like how she ended the show with a song asking “Be my friend…”, saying “I hurt myself today.” “Hold me”, “Wrap me up”, “I am small… and needy”. It was a master stroke of vulnerability in my opinion.

I swear I am not being “that” person when I say this. I somehow discovered Sia in 2007 on KZfaq. I was absolutely blown away by what I saw. I created a playlist of anything and everything I could find from her and listened to it often. Didn’t really hear about her much then or for years. Then all the sudden (to me) there was this explosion of popularity, well deserved, and the surprising addition of concealing her face and everything. But this song just reminds me of when I first heard her. Her voice just moved me SOOO much.

Sia kills me. As an older rock/metal musician, vocals are a strange thing. For me its about the vocal instrument vs. the Lyrics. I almost never care about the words but how they are emoted and how interesting the " instrument" is used. Sia is an enigma to me, it all matters. Her words and her instrument kill me in the best of ways. Something about her tone and inflections touch me so deeply, I can only describe it as Heavy.

The way she sings this song is like an oil painting. With these beautiful layers of texture that when brought together make something absolutely gorgeous. This is by far my favorite Sia song because it reminds me of myself. Sadly it doesn’t remind me of the greatest parts of me. But I have my flaws and I’m okay with that. But I absolutely love hearing Breathe Me live because she changes it up vocally just a bit every time she performs it and it’s like getting a new version every time I hear it sung live.

I always think of her as her own instrument. Lyrics are great, but I want to ride the wave of her voice and just jam it in my soul. My fav thing is when my brain finally processes the lyric after the millionth listen and I get this fun little ah ha moment.

I completely agree - I want the feel of the song first. Then I will pay attention to the lyrics later. Often they add to the feel of the song for me and sometimes they don’t, or even detract. Sia uses her voice as a complex musical instrument and is more evocative than almost any singer I know of. She’s beyond brilliant.

breathe me is the song that made me fall in love with her as a kid, randomly ran across the kcrw performance on youtube when i was like 12 and was obsessed ever since… was so happy when she finally broke out into her imperial era in the mid 10’s, she ruled 2014 to 2016. whenever i think of that time i think of sia (chandelier, elastic heart, the greatest, cheap thrills, the coachella performance, etc)

Great diction is what speaking is for. I think singing is primarily to transmit an emotion. It's easy to understand an intended emotion in a song that's not in your native language. Some of the Brazilian and Mexican artists you've featured in the past illustrate this beautifully!

The melody in some of Sia's songs (such as "Chandelier" and "Elastic Heart") reminds me of German classic and folk vibes from Schubert's "Die Forelle", "Auf dem wasser zu singen" (closer - by Barbara Bonney performance), but with more tragedy. But this is my view since I listen to classics a lot. This one seems more relaxed, but still have some sadness in it's emotional landscape.

About this song I have one thing to say: Six Feet Under Tv Show, final episode. I cry every single time I hear this. Years ago I went to a Sarah Brightman show and I had no idea she would be singing this piece. Although it was a slightly different take, with the Earth revolving on the panel and all, I cried even harder. Well, it was a Sarah Brightman's show, you know. I was excited. I gotta say, you're reaction videos are always the best and being Brazilian, I love those you make about Ana Carolina and other Brazilian singers. Thank you!!

Took me a minute to warm up to it. I'm used to her 'bigger' sound. First half was kinda Billie Eilish... ish. Still not my favorite style. But me already being familiar with Sia, and me watching your "What Makes X Great" video on Billie Eilish a while back, at least helps me see and appreciate this as a stylistic choice. (I'm growing musically!!!!!🎉) I was going to ask when she stopped hiding her face, but I see from other comments that this is actually an early recording from even before she started the hiding thing. She could almost be Aurora's sister!! I liked her head movements towards the end with the 'Dun Dun Dun's. Reminded me of a conductors baton. 🤔🤔🤔💡 ...Marimba!!! That was cute!😉
