Fun fact: even if the fundamental freq was completely missing, if all the overtones are sufficiently present in the audio spectrum associated with that frequency, your brain just fills in the fundamental as though it were there (ie you'll hear the pitch of the fundamental though it won't sound as full as it would if it were actually present)
