Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on KZfaq. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. Her sister Juliette was the older girl and the 2 younger girls are her Uncle Mike's kids, Aires and Athena. 2- time Grammy winner Rob Christie is on piano. He is also the music director of Republic Records, the music company she is signed with and who has taken her under his wing. Republic even built her her own studio. The beehive hairstyle was to honor Priscilla Presley and the time period she met Elvis. The black suit and red guitar was a classic look for Elvis from his comeback concert. My interpretation of the symbolism of this music video: First, and foremost; Angelina Jordan at 16 is the epitome of a Storytelling ARTIST, and she has the ability to take us by the hand and lead us down an imaginary path that we visualize as reality. The remarkable fact is that we experience this in each of her performances. In this video we see her as a married woman in her mid to late 20s. As the video starts out, we see dishes, and it is a symbol of a home. As AJ sings the phrase “Were caught in a trap, I can’t walk out” we see 3 small children, this to me is a marriage where the children come first. If it were AJ by herself, she would not stay in a relation without trust.

I didn't quite catch this live but I really enjoyed it.... great to see your real appreciation of my favourite singer :) There is so much more to discover - she recently put out a little video documentary (produced by her Mum Sara) of her "first 10 years"... she has been performing publically (and brilliantly ) from the age of 7 when she first auditioned on Norway's Got Talent, which she won at 8.... So many wonderful performances, some live, some at home, some in a studio... She has recently started collaborating with Toby Gad, known for writing many very successful songs with top artists, and has put out a great cover of If I Were a Boy, and they are writing original songs together - one that is on YT but not officially released, Bad Valentine, is brilliant and really showcases her amazing vocal abilities...

I don't understand how you both can be in the music industry and have not heard Angelina before. Her audition for the 2014 season of Norway's Got Talent at the age of seven, a completely incredible version of "Gloomy Sunday", went viral and brought her international attention. She went on to win the show with a performance of George Gershwin's "Summertime". When she was 13 she was invited to be on America's Got Talent Champions and she brought the house down with every performance. She was obviously born to sing!

From the very first words, the warmth, tone, passion and sweetness that Angelina manages to instill in this mythical song are truly incredible, you just wish the song was much longer. Her phrasing, backed by her wonderful use of breath and her peculiar jazz tone, always fascinates me and gives me chills every time, I love this absolutely amazing, so personal rewrite of this iconic song, with so many Elvis tribute details. Now it's a different song, but it's also the same, it still has that harmony, but somehow (in a way only Angelina can process) it's even more emotional, it's slower, but it's so close to your soul flow that kidnaps you. I stumbled on Angelina over 6 years ago when she was 12 & I couldn't believe my ears. Her vocals are mesmerizing & calming & I have listened to her every day since then. Every time I go back to singers & used to listen to, I find them boring & lacking whatever it is that Angelina has that they don't. She was a "Child Prodigy" from 7-10 yo, but by 10 she had a completely "adult" voice that can be favorably compared to great adult professionals. By 14 she was a fully developed vocal artist that was on the same level as some of the best vocalists of all time. Now at 18 she is the female GOAT, as far as I'm concerned & I've never seen anything like her in my 76 years. I liked & subscribed for more reactions to her in the future. You won't be disappointed.

I was there at this concert (she was exactly to the day 16,5 years old) and it is by far my best musical experience ever. 18 songs in 1 hour 20 minutes, without as much as a minute break in between. On Feb 29th this year she did a double concert on the same evening/afternoon in Las Vegas, performing a total of 38 or 40 songs. Her stamina and breath control is insane, and her choices are the best you will ever hear, trust me. I have been following her ever since she auditioned on Norway's Got Talent when she was 7 (she won the competition when she had just turned 8), and IMO she is already the best female singer in the world. Mery Zamani AJ's grandmother, Mery Zamani, is a famous artist and poet herself, and was a child prodigy in Iran, and she has been a strong influence on AJ's life. “She is my truly mentor,” says Jordan. Rob Christie is Playing Piano, and he is AJ's A&R person with Republic Records/Universal Music Group. That dude playing the piano is AJ’s Dream Team Rob Christie Republic Records Studio Director at Universal Music Group Manhattan Beach, California, and he has been working with AJ since she signed with the largest record company in the world at the age of 14, two years ago. Rob was the MC of AJ Christmas Show that aired Dec 23, of 21. AJ’s Christmas Show that live-streamed on Dec 23 of 21 had some of the most important musicians of our time: Frank Sinatra's drummer for 6 years, and sun in-law of the late Henry Mancini, Greg Field has won 9 Grammys, and the bass player, Chuck Berghofer who also played for Sinatra for 6 years, and toured with Barbara Streisand, accompanied AJ on her Christmas Show, and they stated that she had the "storytelling ability of the greats, Streisand, Fitzgerald, Vaughan, including Sinatra, to name a few. The main pianist, a five-time nominated for Grammys, Shelly Berg, stated in all his years working with the greatest vocalist, he had never encountered a talent like AJ. Did I forget to mention Jimmy Z, the famous Sax Player who worked with Rod Steward, Etta James, the Eurythmics, and Doctor Dre, was part of the band for the show? As with most young artists she began with covers and most of the comments will refer to the great covers she has done but I don’t think Angelina sees herself as a cover artist. She has been writing songs since she was 10 and says she has written over 100 songs. 12 originals have been recorded and released to date. 2 more have been performed live only so far. FYI, her original Our Time is being used by the financial company SoFi for a national TV ad.

Great reaction guys. Good to see you have finally discovered our barefoot princess. Her vocal artistry has been way beyond her years since she was 7 years old. If you want to see 18yr old Angelina then "If I Were a Boy (Piano Diaries)" is her latest. She was asked by the cowriter Toby Gad to sing this reinvention for his album. Toby is quoted saying, “Working with Angelina has been nothing short of inspiring. Her ability to channel profound emotion through her voice adds a whole new depth to the song.” However, I would also suggest you go back to the start because Angelina has been this good since she was 7 years old. "Summer Time", her final song when winning Norways Got Talent at age 8, will show you that her level of artistry was the same back then.

You've got to hear the low tones she had at 9 years old in "I Put a Spell on You". And she has been arranging heart music for a long time also. In the I put a spell video, you can see that she makes musical notes and gives them to the band leader. If you go down the AJ rabbit hole you'll gain thousands of Angel fans.

The pianist Rob Christie (music studio director of Republic Records distribution of UMG, two-time Grammy winner) changed the musical arrangement and Angelina changed the vocal arrangement, but she didn't change the lyrics. Angelina changes the lyrical structure starting with the bridge and gives the song a different meaning than Felton Jarvis and Mark James , Angelina version absolutely fits the lyric better. Once again, many people don't hear and understand the song until Angelina tells the story. 👣 💯 *AJ* 💯👣 The producer Felton Jarvis from Elvis Presley cleverly covered this *Mark James song from 1968 in 1969* , Elvis' last #1 hit in the US and #7 of his most successful songs. Felton Jarvis took the original country arrangement completely from Mark James and pushed the song with more speed and additional instruments (wind instruments, violin etc.) and a spectacular backing choir (in the studio version).😊😊

No reservations, no qualifications. And she does that across multiple genres. She is mesmerizing.
