What really hurts is that these singers are actually doing just fine up to the flub- and to give them credit, they just keep going.

I’ve been singing for 16 years now, and have been classically trained in Bel Canto for 9 years. I remember having to perform the role of Enjolras in Les Miserables while sick with laryngitis. A 3 week period I will never forget. I was miserable and sick with anxiety the whole time, but it’s made me grateful for when I get to do a performance while in top form, and also serves as a constant reminder that no matter how good I get, I can still be brought low. I’m grateful that it makes me stay humble.

That has to be the worst rendition of Di Provenza I've ever heard. The tuning was all over the place, and towards the end it sounded as though he had something really big stuck in his throat(ie. a bullfrog).

I have a hard time understanding why so many singers go disastrously flat, not just on a note or notes but apparently for the entire opera. What happens to their ear? Can't they hear what's going on around them? I thought a great singer's pitch was an internal thing.
@tjw24696 жыл бұрын
Ususally singers are not singing with correct technique and it actually doesn't sound flat to singer.
@tjw24696 жыл бұрын
sometime I sing with wrong technique in my vocal class and my coach told me I was flat, but I thought I was singing in tone
@lesthermiranda17944 жыл бұрын
You can hear perfectly well sometimes but if your throat isn't coordinated the vocal cords aren't rested and you continually push and push your technique suffers and sometimes this is unconscious
@TedinNY3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes it's a question of overtones. The singer hears it fine, but the higher overtones don't project, so the audience hears it flat. This is particularly the case with tenors and sometimes sopranos. The baritone, though, had obviously been pushing his voice way too hard and had nothing left at the end. Plus, as several others have mentioned, he probably isn't really a baritone, but is forced to sing this repertoire because he doesn't have the technique to sing tenor. So he has to manufacture a sound and push it, which is really tiring.

Ach!!! meine Ohren bluten und in Brand..... Aber das ist in der Tat sehr lustig.....especially since I've performed Queen of night von Die Zauberflöte many times. Again, sometimes singers just have a not so great night..... then again some need to know when it is indeed time to retire. :/

wirklich. aber entweder man versteht , oder nicht. I became annoyed when certain people watched this because they were mocking opera singer in general.. Mais..., je suppose qu'il n'y a pas de remède pour stupide! Did I speak with you about Juan Diego-Flores? To be continued....I do believe that YOU get it. Even my precious Luciano was on here (or perhaps part 1) ??? Hey ..."stuff" happens. If you really want to laugh... look up and listen to Florence Foster Jenkins. But her "mistakes" were NOT.... accidental. Later then. ;)
@theodorebiele52019 жыл бұрын
definitely, Liz, stuff happens. Yes, I assume that some people enjoyed watching this for the sheer joy of mocking opera. Oui, nous sommes d'accord. I think I may have seen something about Juan Diego-Flores perhaps one of the bloopers or, am I wrong? Merci mille fois bravaLiz pour ces choses.

de rien et bien sûr! ....I wrote on some other post about how Juan Diego Flórez had a 102 fever and don't recall where I commented..... but still appeared on stage of the MET singing the dauntingly difficult tenor lead in Donizetti's Daughter of the Regiment. He had great difficulty with the multiple high D's above high "C"..... but we cheered him anyway.
@theodorebiele52019 жыл бұрын
C'etait cela. love the aria and heard diego-Flores' attempt. I did not know that he had a 102 gfever. i've heard a number of tenors sing this aria and have raves of appreciation for most of them. Pavarotti, Brownlee and a few others.are fascinating. i can only appreciate the beauty, clarity and timbre of their voices. I cannot practice pedantry by using technical critiques.. They're good!

@bravaLiz8 жыл бұрын
+David Woods It''s A-L-L butchered......not only the Verdi..That's the point. Even Luciano blundered.. (was that in the Part ONE? I cannot recall) when I attended the NYC performance of La Fille du régiment , Diego Florez was very ill, 102 fever..but Performed anyway , to not disappoint. He cracked , was NOT in good voice,...whatever..however, he did not "call out sick" On the other hand, Placido Domingo got his "break" when at the last minute he was called in to replace DiStephano? Correlli? do not recall)p.s. I need BOTH a new PC and keyboard so please forgive if this message sounds idiotic. It's about the EQUIPMENT and spell CZECH is also NOT "wirking." hahahahaha My best wishes to you.
