She was only 9 years old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, an American singer/songwriter. He wrote and performed it in 1956 and Angelina based her performance on the original, although she did make some subtle alterations to both lyrics and melody. As you continue your journey of discovering Angelina, you will come to realise that she does her own arrangements of most of the cover songs she sings. The differences may not be immediately discernible on first listening to them, but they are there. There may be a subtle change in tempo or tone, or more inflexion on some words, or a phrase may differ in pitch from the original. The amount of control that Angelina has over her voice cannot be measured. She never hurries a song. She sings in such a way that the emotions in the lyrics are felt by the listener. In this video, did you notice:Angelina finishing some notes and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled as he read them? They were her wishes (instructions) to the band how she wished therm to play the music. Then a brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, a well known and respected Iranian artist, who is also Angelina's maternal grandmother and the person who encouraged Angelina in her love of music, especially jazz. And then there is a shot of Angelina holding a candle, upon which was an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins. Lastly, did you notice how the "performing" Angelina, singing at a level of maturity far beyond her years, suddenly became a 9-year-old child almost instantaneously once she finished singing. From the time I first heard Angelina, way back at her first audition on Norway's Got Talent, she has amazed me.

Not only did she sing this song.. 9 years and 2 months old... She arranged the song. (wich she does most of her songs..) In the beginning you can see her writing on a paper. That her changing the notes and passing it on to the musician.... Amazing!

This was done 2 months after her 9th birthday. She did the arrangement herself. Watch her singing I who have nothing at 6 years old. The note was her directions to the studio musicians.

Let me open your eyes a little about Angelina; Barefoot Princess, Singer of a 1,000 Voices, Queen of Emotion, Queen of her own Genre. She is only 15 as of Jan. 10th. She sings, composes, writes her own songs (5 of them), she rearranges all songs she covers (134 of them) to fit the way she wants to perform to give us the most emotion possible, plays 7 instruments, She is an actress, an artist, with asst. from her Grandma designs and sews her own clothes, Speaks 4 languages and knows some of a 5th, has started Modeling and at 9 years old became the youngest Published Author in Norway. The book is available on her channel and her writing and thinking process is just as acceptional as her singing, a definite must read about a true life experience at the age of 6. But she has no Ambition! LOL!

There's a video of Angelina at 6 singing "I who have nothing" and there's a a portion after where she and the engineer are talking and she does call out points she wasn't happy with. They speak in Norwegian, there was a translation.

She's been "The Boss" in the studio since about 6 years old. It's actually what her musicians call her. Seasoned musicians respect her talent and feel privileged to work with her. Check out "Portrait of a child" studio jam session. (look under "portrait of a man w/ subtitles. She improvised the lyrics for Screaming Jay Hawkins "Portrait of a man" You can see her changing the arrangement (mid song) and directing the session. Find the one with subtitles, they're speaking Norwegian. Note, she never tells anyone anything, she always politely "asks" for the change. 10 years old. BTW, this one she was 9yrs 2mths.

This is the homage of Angelina to Screamin' and isn't an imitation, er reinterpretation of a singer she has listened to and admires. Certainly not many adults know him, certainly the only girl of 9 years in the world who knows him and who also thinks of singing him without any fear is she. This is Angelina, the incredible magical little girl. It's incredible that this adaptation is all her own (the sheets written) and that at that age she was able to evaluate and transform, according to her sensitivity, such a particular and powerful song 😊 ❤️ This is probably the best reinterpretation made by a singer in over 60 years of this song.

Yes! Her understanding of how to communicate the lyrics...of almost any genre...respectful of the original composers, singers etc...is her amazing gift of communication, especially emotion!! Not 100% sure where I heard this...Angelina said this is a sad song, it's about desperate love and when she screams its to make us understand and to love one another! Genius! Real music and raw real vocals...I'm so glad we're not going to become robots and have to listen to 'perfect' autotuned voices...........

The bit you see at the start is Angelina giving her wishes for the arrangement. You need to hear her debut performance at age 7 for Norway's Got Talent of Billie Holidays "Gloomy Sunday" then all the rest of her performances for the show. The Bare Foot performance is because while traveling in Iran where her grandmother is from at about 6 years old, she saw a young orphan girl about her age weighing people on a bathroom scale to get money for her siblings to eat. She sat speaking with the girl, and the girl asked Angelina what she wanted to do and she said be a singer and Angelina asked what the girl wanted to do, she said she wanted to go to school and become a doctor but she said she thought it would never happen, Angelina told her to never give up on your dreams, the girl complimented Angelina on what were her favourite shoes and Angelina noticed the girls scarred feet, so she gave her the shoes and said she only sing barefoot until the day when all children have shoes, she wrote about it in her diary, later as she started to become famous Angelina wrote it in a book illustrated by her artist grandmother, becoming at age 9, the youngest author ever in Norway, the proceeds got to Children's Charities. From that and her singing she has raised $24 Million for Children's and Environmental Charities. She has sung for Nobel Peace Prize winners, Royalty and Quincy Jones on his 82nd Birthday Party at the London O2 Arena. Quincy Jones says she is the only person as good as Michael Jackson.

Angelina performed this one year after winning Norway's Got Talent at 8 years old by singing jazz classics by Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald. Actually 9 years and 2 months. I see in the comments below that Andy Schnell has given the background of why Angelina always performs barefoot from age 7 to now at 15. Now see how she owns the stage with a great jazz orchestra at 10 years old with the classic "FEELING GOOD, Live on the Stream Gir Tilbake and televised nationally, live in Norway. Great reaction!!!!!!!

here she is 9yo old, she has rearranged the whole song, the original is from Screamin 'Jay Hawkins 1956 all the bands she plays with call her "The Boss" because she sets the tone but in a very respectful way today she is 15yo old There are over 130 covers by all the popular stars as well as classic and 5 originals that she wrote herself (google translater)

Angelina was 7 years old when she started the Norway’s Got Talent, and turned 8, by the end when she won. You should check those performances out, they have them posted with English subtitles. She is 9 years old here.

The Norwegian singer (Now based in LA) Angelina Jordan is easily explained as the best, most versatile, and complete young singer we can listen to today. No need to hurry, I'm sure Angelina has good people around her. When her record label (Republic Records) , family and herself want it, they can just push the button. Many people forget that she is only 15 years old today because she is so mature for her age. I think everyone on her team including the record company (Republic Records), slows down a bit with marketing her. She is so good anyway, so she can not be ignored. She delivers music that lasts, and not music that lasts for a few weeks as plastic hit. Angelina has over 600 Million Views on KZfaq and over 2 Billion Views on Facebook overall on her videos. Angelina won Norway's Got Talent at the Age of 8, and has been producing masterclass level vocals ever since. The only and regular marketing is done by the fans via KZfaq. All the important top personalities in the western music industry know who she is and what she can do. In just a few years I know that we will see great things from Angelina. If you need to identify who she sound like, I can tell you that she has 1000 different voices to choose from, depending on the song choice and type .. It's Angelina.

Which means that, at 8 years old, Angelina was already making the music arrangement for that song, arrangement that she wrote on the piece of paper that she is giving to the studio director at the beginning of the video. 9 year 2 month old Angelina at the beginning of video is seen writing her 'wishes' for how she wants to sing the song, then those wishes are reviewed by one of the musicians. Angelina is always in charge when it comes to her music. She is a musical genius, creating incredible arrangements for classic songs like this one. Angelina's voice is the most beautiful voice I have ever heard and conveys more emotion than any other. HERE IS WHY ANGELINA ALWAYS PERFORMS BAREFOOT. At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. Another spell was cast by 9 yo Angelina. Let’s analyze the video: 1st you see how small and cute she is. 2nd you see she is barefoot (story below) 3rd You see her making her “Wish List” of suggested changes to the song. 4th the band leader taking note of the changes. 5th Angelina is holding a candle with “Screemin’ Jay Hawkin’s (original artist 1956) picture on it. 6th the old soul in her voice. She is the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina wrote and her Grandmother illustrated a book about why she sings barefoot. She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talk with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a Doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina sings barefoot to this day to remind the world that there are still children in need. All book proceeds go to charity.

Great reactions. And you are not alone. I was born in the early 70's and ever since I was about 15, my musical likes have always been back to the 30's,40's, 50's and 60's. After those decades, in my opinion, music just hasn't been as good. It is still good, with a FEW exceptions. Back in the days, they knew what they were doing and showed it. (IMO) And Angelina Jordan is one of those exceptions. Thanx for sharing.

Angelina doesn't do too many takes of songs. Her record producer says there are only three artists in the country that he works with that require just one take of a song. Beyonce, Sam smith, and Angelina! She will do a song from beginning to end and it's a wrap.

Angelina has amazing flexibility as can be witnessed by the following four songs: Shield (she wrote as a 12-year old. Performed on Scandinavian talk show Skavlan: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/orekiMWHsMiUpqc.html) [In the interview (changes to English at about 0:36 mark) before Angelina sung, paraphrasing, she said that when she sings she goes into an endless other world that is full of happiness. She said that the song Shield is about someone you love and whose strong love protects you wherever you are. Angelina said the song's sound was inspired by the Bond films. Her favorite Bond film songs are Diamonds Are Forever and Goldfinger. She sings a few bars of Diamonds Are Forever a cappella. She said that a highlight of her career was singing for Quincy Jones' 85th birthday concert in London. Probably the greatest performance ever. The band calls her the Boss. Try pausing about 4 times for 15 seconds to react. This makes it a reaction and you should not have copy write issues.

Better understand once & for all why Angelina sings barefoot. At age 6, she met a little girl on the street weighing people on a bathroom scale for a little money. Angelina gave her own shoes to that poor girl who told her she'd be praying for her her life through. In return, Angelina vowed that she'd perform in public bare-foot until all kids around the globe had shoes to wear. That's the mystery behind her performing barefoot.

Great reaction guys...Angelina's roots are very important to see her progression over time. There is actually a video of her at age 1 and half singing Whitney. Her Norways Got Talent performances are also a huge plus at age 7/8. If you want to step one year in time, she was 9 during the taping of this song.
