I am actually going to look into this more for my respiratory system in the winter here, to keep it from getting too dry!! Great video though, I need to use it for my voice as well for speaking engagements sometimes my throat gets very dry on stage

I definitely recommend steaming your voice during winter season. It's a drying season and your voice likes moist air. It does not matter if you do it the old fashioned way - steaming over a pot of boiling water, in the shower, steam room or with a personal steamer. They all work well.

I've only used a nebuliser for my asthma as a child. Never thought of this or steaming for vocals! Very interesting

Using a nebulizer for your voice is a relatively new idea. Some voice users love it.

My voice coach recommended me one,but it was really expensive for me. And I found one in a thrift store for $4 American dollars,but it is different at the one my coach recommended me,but I bought it anyways,$4 dlrs.?? Is not much to loose in case works or not,compare with the original price. And I start to look for videos to see if is Going to work or not,and I found your video. 😊🙏🏻

Have you ever heard of the brand Vocal Mist? I’m debating on testing them out, but I want to do more research first. They sell a portable nebulizer and their own formula that is a isotonic saline solution. From what I’ve read, isotonic saline is the best for vocals.

Yes, I know Vocal Mist. Well known brand. I don't think they have a saline solution that is different from any other saline solution. For nebulizers, only isotonic saline solutions are recommended. It does not matter what brand you are using.

I purchased the VocalMist nebulizer, and I've used it 4 times so far. And after EVERY use, my throat becomes a bit scratchy and then a bit sore, and my voice becomes more strained. I also use the MyPurMist personal steamer and get much more benefit from that. So, I guess the cool mist isn't good for me?

Interesting! I just used Vocalmist for the first time and my nose is BURNING!! I liked using the mouthpiece better. I still think I really love my old school warm steamer. I'm kinda bummed because I love the convenience of the Vocalmist. Sigh.....

I was very disappointed at the VocalMist ... it gives you such a "miracle" vibe from the advertisement and it kinda made sense that it would probably be fantastic and it did nothing for me. Plus it was expensive! I'm gonna look for a steaner. MypurMist has a cordless one now.

If you want a steamer, then Mypurmist has a cordless version too. If you are looking for a nebulizer, which is even more portable, then try VocalMist.

Katarina H. I use steam in a pot so no tech and very little cost! Those blue pots from amazon that have the face funnel thing on lol! Was looking for more info on a nebuliser and I think I would use both eventually as you say.

Yes, the original use of nebulizers is for respiratory conditions like asthma. Talk to your doctor if you have asthma. But lately, nebulizers caught the attention of singers and voice users.

What if you put warm water? I mean.... we have been doing the regular water steam breathing for quite a long time, if you think of the typical pot with hot water and a towel over the head my grandma use to do for me... I think just addding warm water to the nebulizer will do the job just fine

I would follow the instructions of the specific nebulizer. If they say to use cold water, then use cold water. But breathing steam from a pot of boiled water will do too.

Alkaline water should be just fine. If you are worried when using the steamer, don't use it. If you want to try it again, think about it positively. Relax your body and muscles around the neck. Just the thought of spasms can create tension.

Steamers and nebulizers help with hydration, they do not heal vocal nodules. I suggest you do some voice exercises and change vocal habits to heal them.

It does not really matter if you use distilled or tap water for your steamer. For a nebulizer, you need the cleanest water possible (sterile).

The Beurer SI40 Steam Inhaler information on Amazon is now recommending its use with saline. So, we can have heat and saline, the best of both worlds.

For the nebulizer, I would recommend sterile 0.9% isotonic saline water. Ask in your pharmacy or a drug store.

Katarina’s answer here is a little confusing, as she recommends using saline solution in the vid. If you put saline solution in your steamer, remember to put in in the front compartment (the one for essential oils, and the like).

Steaming can help but will not heal it. Vocal nodules are a result of vocal trauma - overuse or misuse of your voice. You should focus on eliminating the cause of vocal nodules. Steaming will improve your overall vocal hygiene.

I have a nebulizer already and wanted to try it for this reason. I noticed that when I tried using it with distilled water, it made me feel like I was swallowing the wrong way every time I breathed in. Is this normal? Is there something I could do differently to get a better result?

I am not sure, Rebekah. I am wondering why you feel the need to swallow. Breathe in and out in a relaxed way, without swallowing. Can you do that?
