There are a few things that you need to check on your vogelzang wood stove before using it that are not outlined in the manual. Failure to check these things could damage your stove.

I just did this and it's working well. I have the same stove so I did it the exact same way. Thanks for the video.

A lock nut isn’t heat resistant, the door hinge pins work their way out too. If you have blocked off the secondary air vent then you have ruined it’s efficiency. I use mine 24/7 10 months of the year. I have burned out a couple of the secondary air intake tubes and replaced them with stainless. I have also changed the ceramic pad, after market, works good. Reason it leaks is because the regulations no longer let you damp down a stove to smolder because it clogs the chimney and pollutes. Best stove I have ever owned. If it gets too hot for you, don’t put so much wood into it. It is the only heat we have.

They make a lock nut that does not have a nylon insert, it has a dimple on the side of the nut. They work really well. Thanks for the comment, please don’t forget to hit that subscribe button!

@Red Oak I didn’t put one in on this stove because it is in the shop and there are plenty of leaks in this building, also I want the air to be replaced.

@Red Oak the secondary intake is the air intake hole behind the ash box in the back of the stove. I cut a hole in the floor and used a dryer duct hose to connect into it after making an adaptation from four inch dryer pipe to five inches to the stove. This brings fresh air into the stove actually making the stove draw better. There is a video on KZfaq showing you how to do that. If you need too. Really liked this video and I did subscribe.

hey jim here, I have a much larger unit made by the same manufacturer that you would put next to your regular nat gas furnace in the basement. on mine, the manual reads barometric damper should be 18" up the pipe and should be adjusted to .05 which is 1/2 inch water column. you could get the tool or make your own. use a piece of plywood and some clear plastic hose make a u shape with the hose and staple it to the plywood leave extra on one side to go into a small metal tube you insert in the stovepipe after you drill a small hole. you can buy a plug for the hole at the hardware store. put water in the plastic tube so it rises the same on both sides then mark the level on the suction side then measure 1/2 up and make a mark. insert the tube into the stovepipe with a good fire and adjust the dampener with the weight on the flapper till you reach the 1/2 inch mark. make sure you have the dampener free moving on its own. mine works great hope yours will too, look on youtube to watch a video on the construction. if there is no video let me know and I will make a video on my channel justJim and sub if you like. GOD BLESS

My wood stove doesn’t have any info on a barometric damper so the manual on the damper says this “Install the Barometric Draft Regulator as close to the stove as possible. If a manual damper (wood and coal stoves) is necessary, the Draft Regulator should be installed ABOVE and no closer than 18” from the manual damper” Mine does not have a manual damper so it says it should be as close to the stove as possible, unless I am reading it wrong somehow. Customer service didn’t know anything about it and was completely useless. If you had a video of it working, I’d definitely love to see it. I could find much on the web for info on it! Thanks for the tips! Please hit that subscribe button if you hadn’t already!

It might be possible, if you run an outside air source pipe in, that you might be able to right a damper control to that pipe as well, giving you two ways to control incoming air.

Have a smaller one on the way, so this is timely. Have a manual damper in the stack with our existing stove. New stove going in new modular home, and it'll be getting manual damper in the stack as well. I would expect to have to adjust the door latch, so I don't consider that a quality control issue. It should be mentioned in the manual, as well as the fireboard and kaowool issue. Thanks for the video!!

The blanket on top is set in place and isn’t easy to move. I don’t think that it could have shifted in shipping. However, they should have more in the manual about checking these things as well as information on how to set them properly. Thanks for watching! I have the same stove in my shop than a smaller in my house. It's a good stove but I've seen the same problems as you. The door was loose and the rope on the ash door had a gap causing a run away on one of my first fires. It's my first stove so definitely learning curve. I own a tree company so it makes sense to heat with wood.

There is definitely a learning curve! Is a sawmill next on your list? I know quite a few tree guys around here that do firewood and have sawmills. The dump fees around here are getting pretty steep!

Never put a barometric damper on a wood stove. A damper is fine. The stove has a thumb size hole even when the air control is pulled shut. I put heat tape over that and can shut the fire right down now.

It’s what the manufacturer recommended

It sounds like they miss spoke when they said barometric damper, in my opinion what you needed was a inline pipe damper. This would allow you to slow the amount of air going up the chimney, directly affecting the amount of draft you have. Also, yes the epa did screw with the dampers. They were forced to leave the damper open for their efficiency ratings on low, I believe some guys put heat tape or tac weld some steel over the hole that is left when the damper is closed all of the way. I hope this helps
@portercreek
@portercreek Жыл бұрын
The manufacturer said the epa put a band on using the dampers. My solution is a wall mounted fan behind the stove that blows on the stove pipe, if it gets too warm I just turn that on and it brings the temp down pretty quick. Thanks for commenting! I had ready that with stoves that have a secondary burner it is not advised to put one in. Did you put one on your stove, does your stove have the secondary burn?
@TVCColin
@TVCColin Жыл бұрын
I have one on my Vogelzang and it works really well. Really helps keep the gasses and smoke in the chamber to allow it to be burned with the secondary’s. I can get an all night burn with loading the box, closing the damper about 85% and closing the air intake to about half on the stove. All you will see is the flame in the top of the fire box because it’s burning all the gasses and smoke off.

I have what I think is the same stove aw3200e-p. Really hate this stove. So hard to keep it burning low. The air intake has a thumb size hole when the air intake is closed completely. I put heat tape over it. If I load this stove up I can’t keep pipe temps under 400 and the top of my stove runs over 800 with both air controls shut off. Really thinking of getting a blaze king. Load it and forget it.from stove top people that have this stove what are your stove top temps in the center of stove top?
