Home Free is the "other" group that is rewriting the book on a capella worldwide. For Home Free may I recommend their "Man of Constant Sorrow" (Dick Burnett), and my favorite, "Helplessly Hoping" (Crosby, Stills & Nash) (and then a quarantined Italian Youth Choir's cover of Home Free's arrangement) and all the rest of the suggestions. They are all great.

Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole!! They are amazing as you've just discovered. But ... you haven't even scratched the surface! For example, Tim's last note here is a G1; G0 is his lowest recorded note. Adam Rupp's beatboxing is off the charts (check out one of his live drum solos!) and his vocal arranging is fantastic (their "Do You Hear What I Hear" is my favorite tour de force of theirs ... listen for the "five octaves in five seconds" moment and some subwoofer ear candy from our Mr. Foust!). The things they've been able to do while in quarantine are stunning (e.g. "Down To The Honkytonk", "Moonshine", and "Meet In The Middle" to name just three gems). To hear them in their live element I suggest "Go Rest High On That Mountain" (the Country Rebel Church Sessions ... all them in one take sitting in a church). You NEED to check out Darren Rust's (their producer, engineer, and oft times arranger) glorious "How Great Thou Art" and "Auld Lang Syne" settings. Keep the Home Free Home Fry home fires burnin'!

Stan Bann Music The singoff version is lower than G0
@stanbannmusic8334
@stanbannmusic8334 3 жыл бұрын
@@michaelmclane8501 I respectfully disagree. Yes, the Ring of Fire Sing-Off version is a half step lower so that last note is an F#1. The G0 I was referring to was the start of his upward slide on a live version of "Your Man". The octave numberings run C to C with C1 being the lowest C on the keyboard and middle C being C4. The A0 on "Sold" is the lowest note on a standard piano.

Some Home Free must-hears (note that in 2016, one member, Chris Rupp, left to go solo, and Adam Chance joined to replace him - lots of people get confused about the inconsistency in members): *Man of Constant Sorrow* - Do you want to hear vocal harmonicas and jaw harps? Because you'll hear vocal harmonicas and jaw harps. This and Ring of Fire are their two top songs. *How Great Thou Art* - Some of the most clean, fantastic blending, and Adam (the beatboxer) actually sings as well. *In the Blood* - another beautiful song with great blends and clean notes. *Everybody Walkin' This Land* - Not only a great, powerful rendition of the song, but relevant to today's cultural climate, with a great short commentary after the song. *Down to the Honkytonk* - Tim goes low. As in low. *Country Fried Pop Medley* - 15 pop songs fairly seamlessly mashed into a country song. *The Butts Remix (a.k.a. Butts Medley)* - Yes, it's all kinds of songs about butts, from a variety of genres, but it's tastefully done, funny, and is still respectful to women by not objectifying them in the video. *Mayday* - save this until you're fairly familiar with each member of the group and their singing roles. If you don't know the members, half the impact of this song is lost (but it's a good song either way). There are lots more that are totally worth hearing too - every one of these guys just blends so perfectly with the group, they're definitely among the best acapella groups out there.

I highly recommend listening to Do You Hear What I Hear next for some beatboxing extraordinaire. Honestly, whichever song you choose by Home Free you can't go wrong, but hold on with Mayday until you know the guys of the group a bit more. Good to know when digging into them a bit more is that their baritone here, Chris Rupp, left the group in May 2016 and Adam Chance, goes by Chance, replaced him.

No, the word that comes to mind for me on Avi's voice is chocolate. Warm, rich, almost liquid with a touch of dark cherry liquor. You can put it on a decadent desert, or... roll in it. Ok, time to stop right there before this becomes naughty. With your profession I'm sure you'll appreciate Home Free doing "Helplessly Hoping" and "Auld Lang Syne". The noise guy here is not just a beatboxer. He call it Percussionist, but he does crickets, harmonicas, wind, nearly anything. He's not human. He's an alien and communicates with sound effects that the other group members understand.

And Pentatonix was the winner of the 3rd Sing Off. That's just twice world champion beatboxer Adam Rupp. He does drum solos now and then at live concerts and a couple of them are on YT. Search for Adam Rupp Drum Solo. And 2 basses in this collaboration! Besides having 2 different bass flavors on solos, this means there is good bass coverage while the other one is soloing. Pentatonix handles this because Scott can reach bass even though he is technically a baritone/tenor. Listen closely in Hallelujah and you can spot Scott swinging down so Avi can start his solo.

Avi was an opera major, Theory minor in college, and was trained as a Basso Profundo. His range is even higher than shown here (such as in PTX's "Little Drummer Boy" and "Imagine").

I'd recommend you do a reaction to Avi Kaplan's original solo "Change on the Rise", released about a year and a half ago. He sings all parts and does most of the effects himself. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aZ5idbepsbTWn6s.html

"We want to you to be able to sing without any constraints." In my opinion, that definitely describes the beat-boxer, Adam Rupp. There is a video around of him doing a nine-minute percussion solo at the end of one of their concerts. The only instrument present is Adam's voice. Now that is versatility.

You have found Home Free! Follow their repertoire and you will be amazed at their versatility. Adam Rupp is the beat boxer, and the sounds he can replicate are beyond belief. There is a recording of him doing a”drum solo” on KZfaq that will blow your mind. He also can sing, and where percussion isn’t necessary you be surprised at how well. Enjoy more Home Free and become a “home fry” as their fans are called.

There is a live version from the TV show as well. Very little difference except for Avi. Try looking up another group "Voiceplay" and listen to their song "Oogie Boogie Song". Love your reactions but am also waiting for another Nightwish. These are my three favourites at the moment. Floor brought me back to music after many years where I had lost my love of music. Thanks again.

After seeing you smile throughout this video, I welcome you to the Home Free Home Fries club! That is the name of the fans, actually given to Home Free during the Sing Off by judge Ben Folds. Somehow it transferred to their fan base. lol I fell in love with this group the first time I heard them on the Sing Off! They’re down home, funny, and love able personalities, and talent, won over many fans! Seeing them live is even better! It’s an experience! I really enjoyed you review and reactions! Many Home Fries below have you some great recommendations for future reactions, but they have been putting out really great content during the pandemic that is really excellent! Same with PTX and Voice Play. Looking forward to what A Capella reaction is next!!

The beatboxer for Home Free is Adam Rupp. He and his brother, Chris, (hat in this video) co-founded Home Free in their dorm room in 2001. Along the way, they found Rob Lundquist (lyric tenor); Austin Brown (lead tenor, he sang at the beginning of this track), and bass extraordinaire, Tim Foust. Chris Rupp left the group in 2016 to go solo, and was replaced with the superb Adam Chance, (aka “Chance”, to distinguish him from Adam Rupp). Adam Rupp is considered one of the best beatboxers working today. He’s won numerous beatboxing competitions! Adam is the only original member of Home Free still with the band! He’s phenomenal!

One of the other songs Home Free does that showcases amazing percussion and effects (think Jews Harp and Harmonica by voice) and more amazing bass is _Man of Constant Sorrow_ . Also for amazing bass and incredible range (think two octave leap - not range just one leap) look into VoicePlay’s _Oogie Boogie Song_

Hi. There is another acapella group called Pentatonix. Avi kaplan is from this group. Has two very interesting songs, the first is "Hallelujah" where you will find a beautiful vocal arrangement. The second song is "Silent Night" in it you will find beautiful harmonies. Both songs have live performances. And thank you for the reaction videos, I learned a lot.

I must say you’re an absolutely beautiful woman, and your reaction with analysis is what makes it a video. Home Free opened up a whole new world on my end too. These guys are awesome. You should react to Think a Little Less, a cover by them. Tim reaches an A0 in that. The whole tone of the song is amazing. A very talented group of guys.

I have followed Home Free since their first appearance on Sing-Off. And, they've never disappointed. But, you've only scratched the surface of their talent. Having said this, there are several other Accapella groups that you should investigate. Another winner on Sing-Off - Pentatonix. They are excellent! And there is a group from Florida - they sound like Disney soundtracks - Voctave. As a singer in my youth, I understand the difficulty of Accapella and truly appreciate the commitment and hard work required to make it work well. Good luck with your search. Try Home Free - Mayday or In the Blood. Pentatonix - Hallelujah or Run to You. Voctave - The Great Movie Medley. These are all great songs that showcase the talent of the groups. And, thanks for the video...

Hi Christi, glad you did Home Free. About 5 years ago, a friend of mine invited me to one of their concerts, here in Silver Spring Maryland. I knew about Sing Off but really had not heard them. Well, they were amazing, a great concert. Also, my friend had premium Meet-and-greet tickets; so we spent an hour with them at 6 pm. And they were not very well known, so the meet-and-greet was pretty small and personal. They seem like fine people, fun to hang with. And as a bonus, they told us right away that we meet-and-greet folks would have a "special bonus" that none of the concert goers would get. Of course, we wondered - well, gee, what ? And as it ended , we had to laugh - but of course - after all, they are an a cappella group. They sang a complete song for us, that was from their catalogue but was not part of the concert. Cute

You will most definitely love going down the Home Free rabbit hole and will have develop the same crush on them that we have with the wide variety of songs already suggested and those you will see just by looking at their list "All About that Bass", "Flowers On the Wall" , my, I could list so many . Speaking of basses, don't leave Geoff out. There is one more a cappella group that will equally knock your socks off, Voice Play and their subharmic C1-A5 range bass, Geoff Castellucci. Once you get to them you must see "Oogie Boogie's song" from Nightmare before Christmas, Moana medley, Queen medley, "Can't Help falling in Love", and with you being a studio musician, you must watch "Just Sing", a quarantine collaboration with multiple singers.

Produced? Yeah, well maybe in the studio, but I’ve seen them live, once the day after I saw a five piece band with two great singers from the TV show Nashville, both in the same venue. The Nashville show was great, but Home Free blew their doors off. Tim’s bass can give you palpitations. Keep listening!
