Thanks for the review, not many are reviewing. I really liked the demo and sometimes a bit of simplicity and a short story is needed these days.

Interestingly enough this isn't the first time Japanese devs have done this. Though a bit more obscure, the 3DS has a downloadable title from Level 5 called "Crimson Shroud" which is essentially virtual D&D. If I'm not mistaken, it also has a soundtrack by Hitoshi Sakimoto.

Crimson Shroud is very heavily dice based though. The mechanics build around the dice functions

I fully agree! I feel like they were only dipping their toe into the waters to see if this would work or be well received. I would hope if there is a sequel it will have more challenge and the mechanics that are slowly introduced as you play are there from the start.

Is the main narrative changed in any significant way by RNG/Choices or is it rather linear? When I imagine a tabletop RPG I imagine the story being pretty malleable to the choices and luck of the player. Curious as this will be a big determining factor for replay value.

I finish the game... I will say its pretty linear...just for best ending u need to complete all the "side quest".. Side event...and collect the rewards...

Not as strong as the past games by far but that being said I found myself wanting more at the end of this game and I really enjoyed every minute of this game

Does this have optional/super bosses? I'm concerned how easy it is having played the demo and breezing through without even grinding anything at all.

playing through it right now and if you go off the path and encounter normal monster rate etc you'll pretty much wipe anything the game throws at you without too much effort unfortunately, but do keep in mind im only like 1/2 way through currently

I've already finished the game and platinumed it on ps4 and there are only 2 encounters I would say are challenging and one of them is a really cool optional bossfight while the other one is the final boss itself

There is a Tiz Reference. That boy looked just like Tiz, and shrieks "Monster!", just like Tiz did when he met Agnes in Bravely Default. Edit: Art style definitely the same as Terra Battle. Would love it if they designed Terra Battle characters in this. I miss Bahl.

The game has a solid story and characters with a charming aesthetic and narration but the combat is painfully simple and the random encounter rate is way too high. You send an hour just grinding through a dungeon fighting the same enemies over and over.

I found it super cool and kinda cute. Though I haven't actually implemented them (or most of them) in game yet. Just there little pop ups which you will see if you decide to get it. I've only had 3 hours before bed. If I remember, I'll come back to this comment tomorrow. I'm glad I got it. But that's just me.

I really enjoyed the demo, but the difficulty is for me really a dealbreaker. I had no problem at all and most of the enemies were one-hits. So I wonder, why fighting at all when it's an almost 'afk-like' game, but without the autoplay :/ Beside that, it's a very charming game and I still asking myself... should I buy it? :/

In the demo at least everything that was read out already had its script presented as text on a card.

The demo has great options and yes those options are present. I played the demo, only an hour long. I want this game but I think I’ll be waiting on sale. I’ll continue research though because it seems like a game I’d enjoy but I’m not sure there’s enough rpg elements, mainly in customization and story decisions. The card mini game is pretty fun also. Try the demo out.

Enjoying the game, very chill. Would pay money to change the English narrator voice as had to switch over to Japanese which thankfully is an option. The voice just doesn’t match the style of game.

Stuck between getting this or getting neon abyss and crown trick for the same price (neon abyss is on sale os psn). The easy difficulty of this may be my defining factor.

Glad to have found a review but I disagree, after playing the demo- having the narrator speak for every character without changing bore me and was a big factor to what made me not want to buy it

@@jackmaxwell3134 It’s not cheap, it’s meant to replicate the atmosphere of an actual tabletop game where most of time there’s only one voice you’ll hear narrating the entire world. It’s more of a design choice, but not one I can see everyone agreeing with

@@acetrainerarcane1755 As a DM, you have to put at least Some change in inflection, tone, or accent to make characters sound different from each other. The narrator's voice isn't bad, but it gets bland quickly if nothing changes.

$35 for an 8 hours game is excessive and the game is so easy it is a joke. Not everyone gets free codes. Game reviewers tend to forget that people actually pay for the games they play. It is a pass for me, and I was excited about this one. A shame.

@@TheSylar1982 the DnD style implies character growth and decisions encouraging additional play throughs for a varying experience……. I don’t think it delivers in that realm but I’m hoping I’m wrong. Sounds like there’s quite a large roster and that may be enough but character customization and class decisions would add a lot more depth/replay value.

The character portrait artstyle is a bit obnoxious. The young woman potrayed early in the review as part of the Ivory Order Trio has her eyes in front of her bangs somehow
