I rarely hear or notice Onew use a lot of vibrato with his singing. I think technique-wise Key and Taemin uses vibrato the most when they sing (amongst all SHINee members). But his voice is so unique and so smooth. In my opinion the most unique and notable voice in kpop!

I know other people have said it but Y Si Fuera Ella - Jonghyun would be interesting to hear what you have to say, he’s from the same group, SHINee, as Onew. Then there’s Park Hyo Shin - Wallflower, honestly you can react to a live or the music video, the MV is live vocals anyway. It’s stunning, his voice blew me away the first time I heard it and it made me cry lmao I love him

My fav part besides you actually looking into Onew and SHINee, my fav part is you nodding as if approving and encouraging. Love your reaction. Onew is one of the best vocalists. He has "honey voice" (I think it is made up term just for him, a descriptive, not 100% sure tho). Few things: 1. Let's not forget he is pop singer (R&B to be precise)and he sang this piece 2. He actually is the owner of the LONGEST note in kpop live (song "friend") that is over 40 seconds long. Speak about control and lung captivity. I was out of breath just watching that 3. He has great range and can sing rock songs as well (was in musical "rock of ages" in Korea as Andrew) 4. He has very unique and controlled voice, so many that are not even his or SHINee fans recognise it I am beyond happy you looked him up and I hope to see you more delving into SHINee. And I also have to mention that your reactions and analysis if live performances becoming my favourite thing. I love your input on it and everyday as I see new video I get sooooo exited. I'm italian and I'm a big fan of Onew (and of course Shinee) and I'm really happy about this performance… I know that the most important thing is the technique but the accent… how he put his effort to show the right feeling of this song… It is really a big thing cause you can be the best vocalist but if don't show passion, especially with italian song you will lose a LOT. Some people: "Kpop idols are only good at singing pop and have no versatility." Onew: "Hold my soju mug." One of the many reasons why SHINee will always stand out is that Onew and Jonghyun's voices are so distinct and technically honed. Another notable thing about Onew is his amazing stability. No one can be flawless 100% of the time, but I don't think I've ever heard his voice falter in all the live stages I've watched. P.S. Love all your reactions and analyses, Sam! I have a lot of respect for many performers and many KPop artists because I know they're talented and hardworking, and even those whose technique or overall vocal sound I don't dig, I know that my own singing is nowhere near theirs. But personally, to my ear, Jinki's voice is simply the most beautiful in all of Kpop. It's just very authentic in the way he doesn't "put on" his singing voice. It sounds the same when he talks and when he sings, and rather than having a "Kpop voice" like so many talented (and sometimes a little less talented) idols do, Jinki has his own unique timbre (I hope I've used this word right). I like how in most cases (NOT Lucifer) he sounds so effortless. The way he accentuates his singing with different emotions I like as well - when he adds a feeling of irony, or sweetness, or sadness, you can hear it instantly. I enjoy listening to Taemin and Key's singing too, but I would say that they convey the emotions through the volume and tension, whereas in Jinki's case it's like his voice has colors for each "season" - even though his sound is so consistent. Anyway, thanks a lot for this video and others too, I feel that I've learned some important things~

I checked ‘Nessun dorma’ by a number of other tenors. Very few sang vincerò with the O. It must be very difficult to achieve. Of the ones I listened to, I think only Gigli did it. Even Pavarotti finished with more of an A than an O. I found Onew’s interpretation very moving - more than some others more famous for the aria. The lack of vibrato was rather refreshing and resounded with me emotionally. Some versions I listened to, I realised were triumphs of vocal gymnastics but resulted in losing the soul of the piece. Onew’s and Gigli’s renditions brought me to my feet; not so much the others.

Since I've known SHINee and kpop idols in general in 2009, I have always thought that Onew is one of the best singers out there and the only voice that can reach my heart deeply. I love his voice, I love him!

I am so touched and happy that a vocal teacher reacting to Onew's Nessun Dorma!! Sometimes I felt that he is not being attributed to much on his vocal capabilities as most will say that he has a chocolate warm voice. But those who is a fan of SHINee and especially Onew bias will know how talented he is.
