I love that Austin features his bandmates on his channel and lets them shine. He did it with Tim, too. Rob’s voice sounds “more operatic” to me than Austin’s. Peter Barber is a reactor who is an operatic bass and he analyzed the differences between their usual performance style and what would be expected of an operatic tenor. He was impressed with what they did considering their limited training in opera and said that, with the prior training, they could perform opera. He was especially impressed with Rob’s vocal production as compared to what is generally used for opera. It gave me a little more understanding of why other reactors have said he sounds like a different person. It’s because he is using a totally different way of producing sound.

@@kristindunstan172 Peter's reaction and analysis was very interesting and honest. Some people didn't like his breakdown, but I found what he said to be fair. And he was very complimentary overall. Especially of Rob, saying that had Rob chosen to stay with opera he could have very well made it. And even Austin, he gave many positive remarks for his performance. I was a bit nervous to hear what Peter would say, but ended up very pleased and learned quite a lot about opera specific traits as well.

@@kristindunstan172 Yes, you are correct. It does seem that Austin is a very generous person and loves to feature his bandmates talents. I just adore Austins voice and his personality, his is very impressive on stage. Just love his energy and love of music, he sure shows that to his audience.

Rob studied opera in college and Austin musical theater in college. Rob said he hasn't sung opera in 15 years and he did this for his father. They were both so nervous doingvthis they said. Hearing Austin I'm reminded of Michael Crawford in Phantom Of The Opera. Rob had the richness and reminded me of more in style of Pavarotti. Thoroughly impressed by both of them. Beautiful piece of music, done so well by them. Thank you for posting this. ✌🏻&❤️

Rob when in university was headed down the road of Opera. It is what he studied. Then went a cappella and not performed in 15 years and was afraid he would be very rusty. Said he played the tract for his dad on Fathers Day and made him cry. Austins smiling I think is him thrilled to show off his bandmates hidden talent.

This is insane. It is extremely good. Fantastic. Both are doing great. But Rob, I'm perplexed. His voice is just magical, so rich, so warm, so powerfull. Chills just ran through my body. It flows into my heart. For me he will be able to stand with the greatest of opera singers. It's not often that I listen to songs by opera singers 5 times and more in a row. But here it is. Of course I hope that both will always continue to do Home Free, but I wouldn't think it wrong that such "trips" are made more often. Opera, country, ballads, soul etc. I think anything is possible..

This performance didn't surprise me in the least. After hearing the beauty and power of their voices in the context of Home Free, it wasn't much of a stretch to imagine this beautiful aria. I figured it was only a matter of time before one or both of them tackled an operatic selection, considering both of their musical backgrounds. I'm no opera expert, or even music expert, as far as that goes, but it certainly sounded gorgeous to me. It had a certain relatable quality to it. Opera can sometimes have an off putting stuffy quality about it, whereas this felt like "opera for the ordinary people." Was it a perfect rendition? I don't know. But to me it was impressive and lovely. Thanks for an informative and great reaction.

Enjoyed your observations, Chris. Short and to the point with just enough commentary on the technical. Your emotional reaction was clear to see. I'm personally choosing not to check out reactions which analyze this in such depth that it would cause me to lose my enjoyment of their performance. Not that much of an opera fan but very familiar with this aria. Knew Rob had previously sung opera many years ago, so while not completely shocked, was impressed by how comfortably he stepped back into this role after so long showing us just how much more he's capable of. Pleasantly surprised by Austin. Applaud them both for 'trying' something new and hopefully taking the overwhelmingly positive response to perhaps do even more.

Peter Barber, bass singer who is a trained opera singer, has done a breakdown of this and. whiclt criticising some of the techniqie, is very complimentary. I love this version. It's pleasanter to listen to , to me, than strictly operatic versions. And yes, very moving.
@patriciamcl54
@patriciamcl54 Жыл бұрын
In what way is it not operatic?? I have my doubts about Peter Barber, typical bass (I've met many) who secretly believes that tenors are just playing around to impress the ladeez and that only basses are worthy of serious consideration. When I lived in London and had some money, I very often went to the Royal Opera House and English National Opera, saw some legendary singers (saw some in concert as well), and I think I can tell the difference between a good singer and one who is not so good. These guys could appear on any opera or concert stage with the best of them. I think American opera training is rather behind the times, in insisting on a particular technique. Jen Glatzhofer, British voice teacher who really knows her technical stuff, in her reaction talks about alternative techniques that are perfectly acceptable.

Great Reaction! I have never been a fan of opera except maybe some Andrea Bocelli & a few others. But I have always appreciated the talent it takes to sing opera. I was pretty impressed with Rob & Austin's version of Nessun Dorma. I have heard this famous song done by Pavarotti. I think I was more surprised by Rob's range & powerful delivery than even Austin's. Pretty good for a couple of country boys! Nice to see them dressed up in suits & looking classy.

Ah well guess that critique is fair, but I enjoyed your appreciation of what they accomplished more. Edit: Correction needed on comment. Opera singer's reaction was a critique and not a criticism. Don't want to bash any reactor unfairly.

No one was surprised that Austin could hit the high notes, and I think most were impressed with both Austin and Rob's ability to navigate the Italian; (I'm going to date myself incredibly, here) what shook everyone up was Rob went from relatable Judy Garland to Diana Durbin. Where did that depth and richness of tone come from? I think even you thought this video was going to be a twangy, C/W parody of an aria, or that the camera would turn around to reveal a Pavarotti-type belting it out while Rob was lip-syncing along. Psych! After this, it wouldn't surprise me if one of the guys tore open his shirt to reveal a stylized "S" on his chest.

Remember that they did not join a country band - Home Free labelled themselves that to make themselves stand out at the Sing Off, and continue (despite Tim's efforts to mire them knee-deep in soupy country ballads) to perform stuff which cannot be labelled 'country.' Austin was certainly not singing country before joining HF. One of the reasons he does not leave the band, apart from the bonds of love and brotherhood, is that a solo singer out in the market has to be labelled in order to get audiences, but he has recently said that he wants to be able to do many different sorts of music, which he can only do on KZfaq.

I've heard the talks going around about this one reactor haha. But I get where he is coming from. I'll have to check it out and see, but I personally don't think he would be comparing them to Pavarotti as much as he would use him as the example. When people think of "Nessun Dorma," people automatically think of Pavarotti. For me, if I do an analysis video, I will probably mention Pavarotti too...not for comparison as comparison, but more-so for educational purposes.

I know a lot of people didn't like Peter Barber's breakdown and analysis. I, personally, found it very informative and I fully expected to be ticked off by the critiques. However, I found him to be fair and complimentary towards both guys, especially Rob. He was mostly just explaining the why's and how's of operatic technique and differences from other genres. That's my personal opinion.

I completely agree. People are going to be ticked off by criticism especially if it's toward someone they adore! It is okay to find some criticism- it wasn't perfect, although totally amazing. I noticed that when they came back together in the end, as good as it was, the vibratos did not match. Austin's high tone was not able to vibrate at the same rate as Rob's lower tone- which voices in unison will tend to automatically do- and as Rob's was the more prominant (and operatic), it created a slight conflict- for one instance.
