Over 50,000 Canadians fought in Vietnam, and these people volunteered to fight, not to drive trucks! I was in the Canadian army in the eighties and some of my officers were Vietnam combat veterans, so we learned correct! ✊🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

My heart breaks for our two great nations. I’ve lived a long life. I knew and respected these men. They were my coaches, teachers, Principals…. They came back from WE2, Korea, Vietnam and in humble, love of country made our countries and this world a better place. I want to cry, scream and yell at the current leadership and populations of our nations. We have forgotten that freedom and security are not free and we are rapidly dismantling the freedoms we once fought for.

Canadians have a long history of being dependable US allies, but for SSGT Donaldson to JOIN the US Army & volunteer to fight in Vietnam, thank you will never be enough. God rest his soul. FINALLY, Vietnam Vets are being heard & receiving the respect they have ALWAYS deserved. 🇺🇸

Some stressful situations haven't gone my way today. HOWEVER, I'm the luckiest woman to be sitting safely in America. Nothing is THAT bad. Your channel is an inspiration to me to keep going. Donna, most people don't know that the Canadians fought down here while others went up there to escape the war. These are unsung heroes, these stories from these Canadians. I have many such stories in my archives. That's why I went to Canada and produced a full feature film in 2007. I believe 134 Canadians died in the Viet Nam war. My hat's off to the Canadians for some other things, too, we Americans should never forget: 1) Sheltering US embassy staff after the Iranian takeover. 2) Giving free private lodging to all the airline passengers who had been forcibly grounded in Canada after 9/11. 3) Oh, yeah, and a little thing called Juno Beach. Canadians were the only unit of the entire Allied invasion to reach its final, assigned objective on the Normandy invasion. Joe H, Missouri

Most of my Veterans are upset and rolling over in their graves. As I have said many times, "We are fighting for the same freedoms today in our own country that our Veterans fought for on foreign soil.”

What a great interview. Honor and Love is pouring out of this man with each breath, and word spoken. ! Love on so many levels I am left speechless. This world needs many more people like him, he is a hero and someone our youth can look up to as a fine example to emulate. I met a Canadian Vietnam Vet in the late 70’s. Although it didn’t mean much to me then, it always stuck with me. Now that I’m almost 60 myself, it means a lot and has puzzled me as to why our boys would head Stateside to help fight a war that at the end of the day and lack of better words, meant nothing. All the while the US kids were coming over the boarder in hoards. Great interview and recognition for the Canadian men that tried to help !!! RIP Sir and thank you for your service…..

Oh yeah Larry, ya most definetly have a calming effect on the Vets. I watch these so intently, I can practically FEEEL the tension release as they field your questions,thus elborating longer & longer to each and often time, see the color in their face change by interview end.😎 I think it really helped James when even HE admitted how he felt when the questions started, to when He found himself likely sayin "Hey? this aint so bad? I think Ive been NEEDIN this?"..BUT?....Like HE SAID,....it ALL rides on the interviewer, and how "OPEN or GUARDED" they feel they "need" to be?...I wish ALL the Vets could/ would come HERE....FIRST.

John, I am thrilled we are working together. Your comment about Jim Donaldson really hits the spot. He was very kind to say the words he did about my work, and yes, many a Veteran has said it feels like a weight and a burden is lifted after they talk to me. I provide a non-threatening environment where they open up to me. Over 75% of them are telling their story for the first time. I've been called a, Psychiatrist with a camera," and a "Church Without Walls!!" I thank God for my Veterans.

@@VoicesofHistory Yeah Larry, all your summations about the experience you provide are spot ON!😎 Sadly, during my binge watching on here, the vietnam vets often have to field "L handed", demoralizing lines of questioning, from VERY IGNORANT interviewers and you can REALLY FEEL the tension mounting. 😡 Ive learned the "type" of sites I need to stay away from. When I see "telling" comments from other vets on "those" sites, that seem like "THEY'RE" cryin out, I take the opportunity to guide them HERE.😎

I was US Army 65-68/ I am Canadian. In my basic at Ft Dix there were two francophone guys from Eastern Townships Quebec. At MP School in Ft Gordon there was a guy from Toronto. Several Mik Maq Aboriginals from the Pictou Landing Band in NS in met later served as Marines.

I served with a Canadian Indian Marine from Sudbury, Ontario1967. His name was Bear and was built like a black bear, a little shorter then me.

July 1967 Bear and 30 other Marines attended Redeye ground to air missile school at 29 Palms Marine base. Only 14 of us graduated. It was 3 weeks long. We were bused to El Toro Marine Air Facility and off to Vietnam. This is weird because we were never stationed anywhere with those missiles. WE ALL went to 12 Marines Artillery at Dong Ha in the DMZ. He made it home, because he was not named on the Wall. Only 1 of the 14 was KIA by a mortar in the 1st month we were there, Aug 1968. I 'd have to find my records for his name.

@@VoicesofHistory I have a friend, originally from Algona, Iowa, who I have known for almost 60 years! He enlisted in the Army in 1967. He spent his last 10 months of military service in 'Nam. We both got out in late 1970. We have been in "touch" ever since then. He was best man at our wedding in 1974. A couple of weeks ago, I was talking to him on the phone. Of all the times we have interacted with him and his wife in the past 52 years, that phone call, a few weeks ago, was the FIRST time he has EVER in even the faintest of references said anything about what he experienced as a helicopter and fixed wing mechanic in Bien Hoa! It was such a brief statement, I almost missed it!! One of his daughters (2 attorneys, 1 judge, 1 chiropractor and 1 master carpenter for offspring) did not know until her late teens that he had even been in Vietnam .......he kept that quiet about it! Footnote: 24 hours after he left Vietnam, a rocket went through his bunk! It hit at a time he would have normally been occupying his bed! His bunkmate was not so lucky.....he is now on the Wall!

It doesn't matter if it Canadian or Australian or even South Korea fought in Vietnam and died also and was on our side but I believe and think those other countrys I mentioned should be more recognized and they should have medals also for they didn't have too help and get involved even though most Australian units was special operations units mostly still Australia and South Korea and Canada should recognized more because they came there too serve also God bless them and out troops and the other country's involved for helping also and dying
