Welcome Home Gary Griggs. You are a Hero. So much respect ❤️ thanks for your service. Yesterday the wife and I attended our youngest Grandson’s Kindergarten Graduation in Idaho. The Entire Class Sang I’m proud to be an American. I was pretty choked up and so thankful to God seeing this before my eyes in the midst of where we are at as a Nation 🇺🇸Thanks Larry for bringing the Heroes to us

Everytime I watch a Nam Vet interview it upsets me how little regard our government has for a soldiers life by forcing them to fight on the enemies terms with no Intent to win the war. Our vets won the battles but our government loss the war.

I watch all of the veteran interview videos that I can find on KZfaq and this is the only one that has really gotten to me. I know so many guys just like Gary: Normal guys that went to Vietnam and were forced to witness and do horrific things to stay alive and to keep others alive. This is my father's generation and I've been surrounded by Vietnam vets my whole life, including my uncle, who is also a Vietnam combat vet. They are all good men and my heart hurts for Gary, and all of them, for what they carry around inside of them after what they've been through. What makes it even more sad is the terrible homecoming that Vietnam vets received. I also think its wonderful that, for approximately the past 10 years or so, you'll see guys wearing Vietnam veteran hats out in public. Many were confused, angered, or ashamed of their service for so long because of their treatment but its so nice to see them now having pride in their service. When I see one of these men, I always shake their hand and say "welcome home". God bless you, Gary, and all of the Vietnam vets. And thank you, Larry, for such an insightful and informative interview.

I am Canadian and am the same age as Gary Griggs. I followed the war back in the day everyday. I had a big map that I would put pins where the news reported heavy fighting. Back in the day I had no idea what these men were going through. I knew it was tough. Gary and his fellow soldiers are very brave men. I have the greatest respect for them. It is heart breaking to see the suffering they suffered and then were not appreciated. I am happy they are getting honored now. God Bless these good men. May they have peace for the rest of their lives. I hope more young people watch these videos.

God bless you too Larry, for not letting these men and women be forgotten. These stories are so important to be told. I'm getting a better history lesson 7n watching your interviews, than I ever got in school. But, I those school years weren't enough time to properly tell these stories. I wish that it could be possible for the younger generation to listen to these interviews, so that they'd have a better understanding of what our people went through. But with the country being what it is today, it's probably too harsh for the children to hear, and it may scar them for life. Thank you again sir.

@@VoicesofHistory Yes, these entitled youngsters need to have a better understanding of what it is really like in battle. I'm 58 years old, I was too young for the Vietnam war obviously. The only way that one can understand what war is like, is to have been there. If the school children have a better understanding of what war is like, it can influence their decision making in the future, and to possibly avoid war. But sometimes it's necessary. I personally have a deeper appreciation for my country and my freedoms, and the men who were fighting, because their country needed them to go. These men, and in some cases women are of truly incredible character. Its true that freedom has a price that the protected will never understand.

Gary, if only our government would have let the military do what they were trained to do, we would have gotten out of that conflict much sooner. Mission accomplished!! But no, profits were to be made by the war mongers. We lost a generation of our youth and still suffering for it. I lost 2 friends there and for what? Thank you for making it back and for going thru that he'll alive. Know that you did your best, gave your all, and gave what many others would not do. Thank you Sir for all you sacrificed. I'm glad you are here. From a Vietnam Era Marine Corps Veteran. Semper Fi!

Wow, it has to be difficult for these men to speak about their horrific experiences. I cannot even begin to imagine what some of them have seen, and been through. Seeing someone that they had gotten close to, K.I.A. just has to be brutal to witness. No words can probably come close to describing their experiences.

Of course the military wants the young guys who do or die thinking they are invincible. In many cases though, if you Read about USGrant commanding and winning, he was successful because his army was trained to do just that. He looked at the big picture of strategy in a battle and it WAS CRITICAL that every unit would be in the right place exactly as he ordered for success. His tactics were different than other commanders and they didn’t have time for every soldier to understand the plan.

Much respect. However I think it would also be great to ask a few political questions in the future. I'm sure these Vietnam veterans also have some strong opinions on those questions. It's disingenuous to keep away from those topics. I understand the line of questions that they were young and felt invincible. That means they were also nieve as well politically. It would be good to ask them how they feel now.

I do not agree with George (below), that was not , is not my understanding of the era. Impressive how the men talk about their flag. In Australia, notice how our head of state (prime Minister) when at news conferences does not stand in front of the country's national flag. He stand in front of the 'indigenous' peoples flag; what a disgrace!
