I think they paved the way for newier thrash, specially for Vektor. I consider Vektor as the modern Voivod.

If you were into metal and lived in Québec in the 80's, these were the guys you talked about. now a pretty big underground following worldwide. real pioneers of the Canadian Metal scene

Voi Vod were a lot more popular in the US in the late 80’s/early 90’s, when they headlined over Soundgarden and FnM during a small theater tour! I just saw them at the beginning of the summer headlining a very small club at half capacity,but they still have a small cult following in the US, so only the die hard fans were there!

@@chrisstolle Same here in Europe. Smaller venues, but they kick absolute ass anyway and diehard fans and general audience respond accordingly. Saw them yesterday for the second time and they let the venue explode.

We knew about them in the USA 🇺🇸 n the 80s, and I do mean when War and Pain dropped, not just when Nothingface arrived. But that was those of us with our ears close to the ground.

PIGGY IS SUCH A MONUMENTAL BADASS.. EVERY ONE OF HIS SOLOS ARE PURE EPIC SAVAGE SONIC MASTERY.. THE WHOLE SONG THEY ARE PLAYING AT HIGH OCTANE ENERGY BUT THEN PIGGY SOMEHOW KICKS IT UP TO A WHOLE OTHER HYPERDIMENSIONAL SPACE WHEN HIS SOLO CUTS IN AND TAKES IT TO COMPLETELY UNKNOWN AND UNCHARTED REGIONS.. I gotta thank Aaron Freeman of Repulsion for introducing me to Voivod. I saw a video of their 90 performance in Flint, MI and Freeman was rocking Voivod on his guitar. Didn't know what the logo was at the time but as soon as I knew the name, I was instantly hooked.

French Canadians play a very distinct type of metal. Voivod, Cryptopsy, Gorguts, Martyr, etc. Theirs is a very angular, strange and nasty type of metal riffing.

I got some sad comments about my Voivod records during the-80's & -90's 😂 They wasn't "metal enough" and impossible to label as a style or genre I think absolutely they are metal enough AND a very very originale band, too!

Hellu Voivod is absolutely something very much different, that's for sure :-) Truly they play metal, and in quite a different way than most bands. (In the-80's it was definitively breaking with the usual way to play metal. It's not heavy metal, It's not thrashmetal, its not doom-metal...can we settle for "prog-metal? Anyway; It's an interesting band!
