Getting that bushing out would have fun to watch

When my 73 SB started doing that I replaced the starter with one from an Auto-Stick eliminates the need for a bushing.

6v and 12v systems also have different size shafts and bendix gears some make sure you verify what system and starter it is first.

i would use a self supporting starter as its more powerful than the one with a starter bushing as you can use a Bosch starter for an autostick bug in bugs August 1966 and later 12 volt models. as on Summit racing there is a more powerful gear reduction starter available its a Powermaster starter its a custom made Denso type starter like the autostick its self supporting as it will fit both manual and autostick models. as these starters there is no need to fiddle with the starter bushing you can leave it in there.
