In this video, I show how to remove and replace the rear brake pads and rotors in a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta TDI S model. I chose to use the OEM pads and rotors since they performed so well. The Jetta had 100,000 miles on it at the time of this video with the original pads and rotors still on it! Enjoy the video.

Torque Specs:
Rotor screw - 4Nm or about 3ft-lbs
Caliper bolts - 35Nm or about 26ft-lbs
Wheel lugs - 90ft-lbs or about 122Nm

Thank you for this great video!!Just did my rear brakes this afternoon and found this video to be very helpful! Thank you so much for posting it. Brake change went as smooth as your video with a couple exceptions. 1) bottom slide pin on driver side was seized up pretty good. Had to gently tap it out with a large screwdriver & hammer. Cleaned and lubed up real well and was good as new! 2) stripped small rotor set screw on passenger side. Got it out with impact driver. Was able to reinstall and torque to spec. Used OE+ Pro Series from Parts Source. 1/2 the price of VW. So far so good. Very quiet, work great. Borrowed the caliper compression tool from Part Source for free ($90 deposit) Made compressing the caliper so much easier. Highly recommend using one. Applied copper based anti seize paste for easier rotor removal next time. Really had to pound on both rotors to get them off!!!

Is it possible to compress the piston without the tool? I wondered why you couldn't just use a c clamp or another method that applies force to the old brake pads to compress the piston.

The piston needs to spin to be compressed. This tool is absolutely necessary for this. A c-clamp won't work for the rear calipers, but you can use one for the fronts.

Best and most thorough video on the subject, well done and thanks. The “circular things” on the calliper piston tool are best called “pins”.

I had to on a 2011 Jetta Sportwagen TDI they were a big pain in the rear to get them off.

I ran into a problem while doing my rear brakes on a mk6 jetta. It may be of help to someone who runs into the same issue. The problem was the caliper did not have enough slack from the hand brake cable. I could not line up the caliper bolts due to the cable being too short. Tugging on the cable in the wheel well area to give enough slack did not work. Eventually, I crawled under the area beneath the driver's door and tugged (just a slight tug) on the hand brake cable from that area, and it gave a few more inches of slack, and I could then line up the caliper bolts and torque them down. I have no idea how it happened, or why pulling on it from under the driver's side door area released the snag, but it worked.

Also apply anti-seize on the part where the new rotor will mate to.

I'm having trouble compressing the piston? I feel like it shouldn't be as hard as it is. Almost like it's siezed. Any idea why it won't budge?

Mason_ - Make sure that you are turning it clockwise. If it doesn't move for you, then it could possibly be seized.

Use the proper tool for the rear and a C clamp on the fronts. Lift the edge of the rubber on the rear piston and apply a bit of WD-40 all the way around the edge lip.

What holds the pads off the rotors? Seems like they would rub on the disc.

The pads always rest on the rotor.
