The video doesn't do it justice. The tank traps along the first section of trail we were crawling over didn't look big at all in the video but they were pretty crazy in person. My bumper is 23 inches off the ground and we were dragging on most of them. The view from up top was pretty cool as well. It sorta gets lost in the video. Thanks for watching.

Gorillaz Bilal The radiator on the T3 is located in the front of the bus and it has electric cooling fans that pull air in to the radiator (sucking). Thanks for watching.

Your question is confusing because all of the VW vans, from T1 to current T6, do not have have "frames" and "bodies" - they are 'unit body' construction, so you can't swap a body and frame around, as you might with a US pickup truck or Jeep CJ. You can swap engines in some cases, and the Sycro drivetrain of the T3 Vanagon can be installed in a non-Syncro T3 (with a lot of work, including moving and replacing the gas tank).

Jeremy Cutts How come? They perform the same jobs as a minivan, transporting people and goods wherever they need to go. The only obvious difference is where the engine is located. :)

Everett Hale Same thing. Correct name is T3 (its what the Germans called it & they should know). The English call it a T25 just because that was the prefix used on their part numbers.

Robert Pabst I am probably going to keep it simple and go with a 2.5 4 cylinder. I think you can achieve near stock ground clearance and the these engines once installed look almost factory. I was convinced I needed a 3.0 six cylinder but I think I would lose some ground clearance and they look a little more complicated to install. Rocky Mountain Westy sells a complete kit for the 2.5 that runs about $2700.00 and includes everything except the wiring harness and a shortened oil pan. I am currently following a channel on youtube called "Busaru" where they are showing a step by step Subaru swap into a Vanagon. It looks to be a pretty straight forward easy process. My biggest hurdle at the moment is the fact that I also need to do a transmission rebuild before I can even think about the engine swap. I'm looking at somewhere in the neighborhood of $4K-$5K to do the trans. Once I get that done I can start saving up for the engine swap.

Subi 2.5 is the way to go! I may have lost 1inch of ground clearence from my air cooled but dollars to doughnuts says the cast aluminum oil pan from small cars that hangs the lowest is stronger then the old steel/magnesium air cooled case! Yahoo groups is a super great source for the subi swap!

Volkswear Correct, Keep it flat 4. Keep it 50/50 weight spreed. I've a EJ25 in my syncro. Makes it a joy to drive & keeps up on the highway without breaking a sweat.

The T3 Vanagon was the last rear-drive VW designed; because the engine was at the back, it was harder to service than a front engine van, and people thought it was 'unsafe' in a collision.

Volkswear are they stock awd

Yes the Vanagon T3 Syncro came stock with AWD. Pretty unique vehicles and although they were never intended to be an off road vehicle they are pretty capable right out of the box. Thanks for watching. JC.

+Agung Cahya Nugraha The T3 Syncro has one low gear, the "G" gear. G is for "Gelände". It is german and means "terrain" or off road or something like that.
