About the ruff idle. Check the o-rings on the injectors, they get dried out by time and air is then leaking in. Also check the vacuum hoses.

Back-purge the injectors, replace distributor, check for vacuum leaks and it should be fine.

Thank you for the advice, injectors are next on the list after I’ve have the chassis welded up.

I’m currently learning the KJet system as my other Volvos and previous ones have all had LH2.4 or have been diesel. It seems that injectors are a common issue past the 100k mark, and can either have issues with air ingress due to o-rings going brittle, or uneven running on hot start due to dribbling and vapour lock. I’m in the middle of working through that stuff as we speak! All redblocks seem to have a slightly uneven idle (certainly all of the seven I’ve had!) but I’ve found it can be drastically improved by replacing the dizzy cap and rotor, and fitting the HT leads that Bougicord manufacture for Volvo. Those leads have (I believe) a resistor in the cap which seems to make the system work so much better than standard pattern leads such as Bosch etc.

Yeah the KJet seems to be a bit more temperamental from what I’ve heard. I’ll have to do a video on the rough idle diagnosis to help anyone who might be suffering from a similar issue. I’ve got HT leads and a rotor on order already but the next job is to strip out the interior so I can get to the areas that need welding without setting alight to the car!

Yeah I’m going to try the idle control valve along with checking the injectors.

I wish I had seen this before replacing the fuel filter on my 940. Pulling the fuse on the fuel pump and running the engine until it stopped, reducing the pressure on the output side of the pump. Clever.

I think I would also replace other maintenance items-spark plug wires, distributor, O2 sensor and crank position sensor. Hope you get it sorted out and looking forward to more videos.

Thank you! I’m going to focus on getting the car welded up next so it will hopefully pass an inspection. Then I’ll be tackling the rough idle, I’ve had some great suggestions to get it running properly again. It’s been great to see.

DVLA shows MOT Expired 2015 !!

Yes it’s been off the road for 8 years and the last service was 2012! It needs some welding before it will pass an MOT so it’s off the road until then.

Who's this bloke Ruff Idol? Your paternal grandfather & your uncle would have dismounted the fuel filter cage, stripped off all the paint, treated it with rust proofer & given it several spray coats of paint before reinstalling. Be thankful I'm also not your uncle.🤣
