Wow the C70 interior got quite a bad review, I always liked that interior style, the only downside is the buttons all start to look like molten candies over time.

Well with alcohol you can clean that quite easy. It's a coating that fades away. Al lot of cars from that era have that issue.

Between my last V70 and my previous C70 I had a BMW E39 530d, with full Msport interior, I prefer the Volvo, everything is in the right place, the seats are better, and you don't risk death changing the heater settings.

I've got a Yellow V6 406 Coupe like this one featured. It's 20 years old next year, done 130k and drives as tight as a drum. All the electrics work and retains 95 percent of its original paintwork has is totally rust free. They are cruelly under appreciated and underrated cars.

Clueless. C70 T5 GT Coupes are already classics. I've been trying to buy one on autotrader and they've already overtaken the newer folding roof C70s in value. Sometimes they come up for sale on by some seller who has no idea how valuable they are and are snapped up in minutes.

My 98 C70 T5 is at 223000 Km now . Last legaly required technical check up passed - without flaws . Still a beast on the german Autobahn and simply a "sleeper" par excellence. The quality and safety of this car is unbeatable and on long rides quiet comfortable. A 500w Dolbysoundsystem by Alpine & Dynaudio that makes me grin every time i put it on😁 Best Car i ever had....Show me a 406 that still lives....

@@noxus_8545 Ahh... you are this one guy 😉 The look is a matter of taste - but the technical Data shoes clearly the better car. Even the V6 has no chance against the T5 and the NCAP Crash Test results show the superiority of swedish steel. I once owned a 106 1,1L 54Hp and i loved it. 5L/100Km and a topspeed of around 185 km/h Brave little red devil 💥💥💥
@noxus_8545 Жыл бұрын
@@michaelbraun6687 I do agree that looks are a matter of taste, however, the 406 Coupé got the 1998 award of the best looking car of the international automobile festival, so that must count for something. If security and quality is your biggest concerns when buying a coupé then it is my opinion that you are missing the point of owning a coupé. But indeed the Volvo is stronger. However, when it comes to being a sports car, which is what coupé are made for, the 406 handles better and still has a similar 0 to 100 with 40hp less. To resume, here is what I think, the C70 is a good car, but it is not a sports car, it's probably stronger and is more secure but I don't see anything else, maybe you do. The 406 coupé sold well for a reason, and that is not for the looks only.

@@noxus_8545 We've owned a C70 T5 coupe from new, and I think it's one of those cars that you need to drive to understand. Simply put, it's a sledgehammer. An absolute brute. It's not a sports car, doesn't like to change direction, has the worst turning circle in history. But, contrary to what this reviewer said, 20 years ago, the cabin feels quite special. All of that said, I'm here because I want to add a 406 Coupe to my collection. I think it's a glorious looking car and, though I've only been a passenger in one, I feel it's lighter on its feet and easier to drive. Both cars have their strengths and weaknesses and in today's world of idiotic electric cars weighing 15,000 kg, both the 406 Coupe and C70 should be celebrated by all parties. I reflect now on the 90s as the halcyon days of motoring..

I am not sure how they stack up now. The dash in the 406 looked very plastic to me. I ve got a 9 yr old C70 Conv and everything still works and its rock solid. The switch gear feels it will last forever. The 406 looks really nice but became they super expensive to run, not sure why really.
@MadMax746569 жыл бұрын
I am driving 406 coupe and i must say dashboard is covered with that thick fake leather which gives a rather expensive look,and plastic surrounding the clocks itself is in good nick still.

MadMax74656 I have since noticed that later 406 Mk1 cars had a 2 tone dash and seats which looked pretty good. The Mk1 406 was a great shape and looked very Italian in design. I personally thought the Mk2 with the large over hang and shark fin features was a step backwards.

fredintheshed1 yes they do,the thing i like is the interrior and front look of the MK2 and rear from MK1. you are correct that the MK2 boot was ugly.
@CB-RADIO-UK9 жыл бұрын
MadMax74656 I don't think the MK2 was really ugly it just seemed to lose the design somehow. Many Mk1's were made into 355 copies with very little modding. One thing that's puzzled me is why the 406 has a rep for being real expensive on parts ? Did they use unique parts for the 406 ? Also in the UK the insurance group was pretty steep which put a lot of people off owning.

The C70's design is brilliant and literally one of the most timeless car designs. Good thing nobody knows this car, but this is definitely going to be a future classic like the old Volvo coupes are. The successor looks very forgettable compared to the first gen which looks a little bit like an Aston Martin btw..

Why did you give the Volvo C70 such a bad review? Was your commission for the adulation of the Peugeot much higher or do they really love the design quirks of Peugeot? You should have mentioned that depending on the market the C70 was also available with beige or light grey interior.

Dude, your lack of knowledge of car history is disappointing; Pininfarina designed quite a few Peugeots before this (most notably the 404 lineup and the 504 coupe and convertible), and Volvo had other coupes in their lineup since the P1800 (the 262C from 1977, and the 780 from 1987, both Bertone designs)

It s not as if competition releases a coupe everey week is it? Volvo had a 740 variation, i thought its name was 780. The 440 had a coupe variation, that looks a bit like a Honda Accord aerodeck. With a bit of squinti g of the eyes a C30 has a coupe vibe. 240 had a coupe so ugly it s beautiful again. Peugeot emphasized the gti's for sportiness a lot. A Mercedes CL looks good, competent, but its interior isn t very exciting and its pricy. The one of the time these cars were present, i mean. If you are the man who feels work has to be done on the suspension..a 406 is a 406 is a front wheel driven car No specialities. Trouble i have with Merc, they have spent more than Redbull on the engineering, but i do not..feel it. Experience it. Mercedes is very brochurey, usually their brochures are nice indeed. Unless the lorries, their brochures are replaced by websites

C70 was and is a superb car, 200k plus without issue. 406 was good looking but still French. Troublesome things. Plasticky and felt cheap.
@manolismii21592 жыл бұрын
Wtf?plastcy?Peugeot never made plasticy cars.I remember the 207 had leather on the dash and the 407coupe had leather everywhere. There's no need to tell how premium the newer models are.Anyway this volvo looks hideous and its very unreliable
@Weazelmania2 жыл бұрын
You must be on crack. The B5 engine in the Volvo is a half million mile engine before stage 0. With basic servicing and 200k is easy. Theres a reason Volvo's have a stick for being reliable old tanks, it didn't change with Ford's ownership. The 406 was plagued like all French cars after the 100k mile mark with black smoke, poor acceleration and terrible gear boxes. The interiors were that of the time, plasticy. Volvo at least pulled out some attempt to cover the plastic with more robust fittings. The biggest problem with the 406 was stalling engines and ABS and usual French electrical gremlins. The Volvo shared ABS issues with dry solder joints but didn't share the rest. If you're going to buy French at least buy Renault. PSA engines ended up in lower branded later Geely Volvo's and are all, again, unreliable and troubled. Peugeot group also got into cohorts with Fiat around this time which again caused untold problems with BSI units through cars to vans. One thing that never plagued Volvo's direct engineering and branding. Only the T6 S80s and mid 2000s AW boxes became a problem, the latter fixed for less than £30.

Take a look to used car classified, you'll see that there is tons of 406 coupe, most of them with very high mileage. It was a very reliable car, you still see most them around, most of the car of that era did not lasted as long on the road. The 406 aged very well indeed, remember it's now a 17 year old car. BTW: Stop talking rubbish about "french unreliability" we are not in the 80's and early 90's anymore. French manufacturers have addressed this problem for a long time now. There is only britsh today to point this as a problem, just watch foreign car reviews.

Akorus My apologies, I should have looked further into it before I commented. sometimes my comments get real stupid. I have never looked into Peugeots and I don't really see them in the states. Just the Volvo fanboy kicked in I guess.
@miljororforsprakpartiet2909 жыл бұрын
camarojoe982 I live in Sweden and I can clearly see your point still. Peugeot themselves claims that they make much more reliable cars nowadays, but I yet have to come across any (any!) French car with above 250k kilometers on the clock. Volvo's were tanks and still are, that's why many taxi companies and police departments favors them. But, of course, the price you have to pay is the design - I never liked the looks of the C70.
