Thank you ! Heard this exact noise for the first time this am at cold start up. 6 months ago I replaced the upper torque arm due to deterioration but I had no noise. Now I have the noise. Sounded like a bearing rattle, just for a few seconds, then went away. I park on a slight incline. 162k miles. I'll get under the car & look for the collapsed plate on the mount...excellent tip!

Thanks much for this video. I have exact same problem on my XC70. I think the upper mount link going bad must take out the main mount due to all the side motion. Lesson- replace upper link before it gets too bad. And I have to get one of those elec ratchets.

I can't find my first comment. So I replaced the Upper torque rod motor mount and the right CV Axel. Both of which were basically destroyed. But I was still getting horrible vibration and the steering wheel loud grinding noises loud thumbs going in reverse and and forward. After replacing the front motor mount as in the video above itCompletely fixed all of the noises and vibrations.. I thought it was my rotors a wheelbaring badBreaks, Is shocks or struts sway bar links . Nope that fixed it though. Thank you so much for the video

After watching your video I checked my motor mountain and sure enough it is definitely that. With the engine and idle I pressed on the upper torque rod in the grinding and vibration came back instantly. It was making a very loud noise and vibration and almost grinding noise when driving. But then would disappear after a while. I am going to replace it and we'll leave an update.

The torque arm right on top should be checked too. Unfortunately I did that repair in a separate video because I did not know at the time.

David Prokity Gotcha. I recently had the power steering pump swapped out and replaced with an OEM unit, but still have a whine that goes with the rev range of the engine. Thought it was air in the system after first, but it’s been over a week since the swap. A few folks have point led to the OEM o-ring on the high pressure line. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Same problem on my XC70 2010 diesel 2.4. Additionally, it seems the vibration broke the aluminium bracket that support both mounts, so I have to replace it. I have ordered the replacement mount, and it comes in a week. I will let you know what happen with my noise.
@A_Renaissance_Man3 жыл бұрын
Yes. I did that video seperately because I was hoping that was the problem.
@alioth20212 жыл бұрын
Did you happen to hear any noise while coasting too? I've got a similar noise in reverse, but even more so a very rotational vibration that only happens while coasting, braking, anytime I let off the gas. Already had the bearings checked. 2010 Volvo S80 3.2L si6.
@A_Renaissance_Man2 жыл бұрын
No, but I did two seperate videos where I should have combined them. Check the upper torsion bar, same side of the engine, right on top. That could have deteriorated. You, or the mechanic, will have to remove it to replace the motor mount. Have someone put the car in drive and reverse while you watch and listen to the engine.
@alioth20212 жыл бұрын
Thanks for getting back to me. My Torque rod has some fine lines in the rubber, so it may be a combination of both the rod and mount; similar to your situation. I'm having the parts ordered tomorrow or Monday. Cheers.

Hi David, Same problem. Do you think that the bad motor mount caused the torque rod to break?

@A_Renaissance_Man3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, I did the torque bar separately because I thought that was the problem, so I suggest checking the torque bar on top of the engine and the bottom motor mount. If they check out ok then there is always the shop for diagnostics and you do the repair if you do not like their cost. Some shops will do the inspection for free or some small fee. Typically one half hour of shop time.

I have a question, i have a 07 S80 and it has the same issue that it vibrates a lot when i start braking, so when replacing the part, what did you use to support the engine and how did you do it because i want to do this myself but i’m afraid of the engine falling since the piece is a motor mount and to replace it you have to remove the top one and the other one that’s broken
@A_Renaissance_Man5 жыл бұрын
I only showed a quick view of how I supported the engine. I used a railroad tie and a bottle jack. I only needed to lift the engine up 1/2 inch.

@@orlandonino8533 did yours vibrate in drive and reverse when idle or at a stop? Also did it seem like you engine dropped hard when put into reverse? I too have an 07 s80 3.2.
@hugoburton52224 жыл бұрын
As long as you only replace one engine mount at a time, you don't need a special engine crane (like it says to do in VIDA). The method shown in this video is perfectly fine for anyone at home.
@victor7890123 жыл бұрын
Would this cause vibration issues?
@focus6785 жыл бұрын
My xc60 installs same design engine mount. Do you have other noise problem like crank sound when brake or turn left or right ?.
@A_Renaissance_Man5 жыл бұрын
No but that could be a CV joint problem. Sometimes I pay, or ask the shop to diagnose the problem and then fix it myself.
@hugoburton52224 жыл бұрын
I have a similar issue when where I brake and make a left turn, there is a faint clunk noise. My 2009 XC60 T6 has done it since new. It went into the shop in 2012 both struts replaced. they couldn't figure out the issue. Still makes the same noise 11 years later but no problems yet.
@focus6784 жыл бұрын
Hugs I found that left gear box rubber mount under battery box was damaged. A new mount solved problem. Another thing is heater hoses from engine to air con. inside passenger room makes a crunk noise. The hose bracket lose out a little bit. There is the gap of the bracket and engine wall . Engine vibration caused of noise from the bracket. Not solved yet.
