@speedster797 The volvo system is very intelligent and it knows the dimension of the car and only acts when there is risk to collision, at higher speeds it also activates but only reduces the impact which is better than non- braking before crash

I tested pedestrian safety on the new S60 during a Volvo VIP night, it was awesome (with an inflatable dummy, not a real person of course). I own a XC60, with city safety.

@prayb4udie There was an Amazon/120 series from the '60s, some 140 series cars from the '70s, perhaps a 240 series from the '80s, a 440 and 480 from the mid to late '80s, an 850, what looked like an S40, an XC70, and an XC90... I probably missed some.

well,I believe that since Volvo has their own crash teat lab(and serious do a LOT of crash tests),they most keep the tapes so they can study every crash for many,I mean many times.

Some of you need a wake up call. The car only stops when the radar in front detects the car in front. (Not the side) And it only works at low speeds not the highway. I should know, I just drove one.

28 secs was a volvo 480......i used to own one - nice cars - beautiful design but unfortunately i got rid when the electrical probs started with the computerised dash.

# 1 it only detects from the front #2 good thing your not an engineer, im sure the computer is designed/programmed to not only notice the object in front, but to also plug in the objects speed vs. the car your in. it plugs that data into an algorithm, and according to specific results, it then decides if it needs to stop.

this only works between 5 and 20 mph

i thought it was the XC90 that had the system to stop it self too

Now, Listen! You're all over reacting about this. This is the 1st car in the world to stop it's self and is affordable. give them some slack if there are faults in the system! You create one that not only is up to snuff with the IIHS and the NTSB, but with European Union and Asian restrictions! People shouldn't complain that it's stupid or not safe. IT IS MADE FOR SPEEDS UNDER 20 MPH, hence the name (perfect for cities like NYC). So, if you have a better system on hand, contact me about this.

480 was rare, some folks love it, but it was the worst Volvo ever. (that means, its just an average car) They rusted around the foldable headlights, and those front light units also had electrical problems. Everything else taken from the 440/460 was just perfect ;)
