Hey guy's, I know this is an older post however I wanted to let you know that you can trim 5.56/.223 brass to about 1 inch and make 7.62x25 brass. Depending on the manufacturer you may need to thin the neck a little. If ammo is unavailable this is an option, to do on a rainy day. I have a 5 gallon bucket of 5.56 blanks that will become either Tokerev or Blackout ammo.

12:50 - speaking of that, at one point during the war, the Red Army had entire infantry divisions equipped with PPSh and PPS submachine guns. It really was a prelude to the development of the assault rifle.

The Russians were making PPS submachine guns in Leningrad while it was literally under siege in WW2. They’d go from the half destroyed factory directly to troops on the line. They used the same barrels as the Mosin-Nagant rifles, just cut down and reamed for a 7.62x25 chamber. Wartime expediencies. It’s a very cool round. I have a Czech CZ-52 pistol that fires it.

A CZ Scorpion chambered in 7.62 Tok would be a rad modern take on the PPSH, it's the modern equivalent. Still has the bonkers rate of fire, decent mag capacity, and the ability to use drum mags. I think Franklin Armory makes a binary trigger for the Scorpion as well.

I read that Russian officers had to qual at 80 yards with the tt33, so once hearing that I tested that theory. You can definitely put 8 shots in an 8" circle at that range if you have a good barrel cause they're known to be pitted and if you do your part. I had to put mine on sandbags but I can believe the claim now. It's my edc and favorite pistol cartridge to reload

In a old hornady reloading manual. It says. More game.has been taken with the 303 British. Also likewise more big game has been wounded with the 303 British than any other rifle caliber on the planet. Always thought that was kind of funny. Never have seen that statement in any other load manual ever and I always look to see. I can't remember what year or number the Manuel is I would have to do some digging to find it in my fathers basement. Remember reading it when I was a kid sitting at the bench with my father.

I do own a original, Soviet made TT 33, manufactured in 1953, with the CCCP letters on the grips, I also do own a C-96 "broom handle" made around 1898. The TT-33 is incredible reliable, accurate and powerful, yet is a very simple design and by the way the pistol looks, it may not impressed much a potential user, it is a very simple pistol, cero esthetics, but it does have a punch, that is a fact. Base on what I have read, the soviets copied this cartridge from the Germans who made it for the C-96 "Broom handle" Keep the good work on your channel, I'm a subscriber and almost daily visitor. Cheers from CR, latin america.

The fun thing is that pistol cartridges don't really go obsolete like rifle or carbine-type cartridges do. As long as the pistol cartridge is of sufficient power, rimless and fits in a box magazine, it's good to go. 7.62 Tok could still be a service pistol cartridge today with a modern bullet. The biggest issue is the overall length. It's longer than 10mm or .45 ACP which means gripping guns in 7.62 Tok can be difficult if you don't have big hands. Especially in a double stack gun.

The 7.62x25 was a direct copy and improvement on the .30 Mauser, which was based on the .30 Luger, which was 7.62x21mm. As for the 7.62x25mm, it was chambered in the following pistols: Soviet TT30, TT33, Czech vz52, Russian OTs 27, Chinese Type 54, Chinese QX04, and Yugoslavian M57. It was also chambered in several submachine guns, including the Soviet PPD40, PPSh41, and PPS43. At around 1500 fps out of a handgun and 1700 fps from a subgun, it's a potent and accurate little cartridge.

To add up to the information provided, the armour piercing property is not only because of the diameter and the speed: the jacket on those bullets has steel in it (they are magnetic!). And as for guns other than Tokarev, Norinco (Chinese manufacturer...not available in US) manufactures the NP762, which it is basic a SIG P226 clone rebuilt for 7.62x39. Cheers from Canada!

@NZ Adventures How to measure "stopping power" is the unanswerable part of all this. Is 7.62x25 more powerful than 9mm? I think so. It's certainly faster than 9mm. If speed is king then..the only Chrono test I've done, it's in the neighborhood of some 350-400 ft. per second faster. (some are even faster) The number crunching also says this will equal more ft-lbs of torque too, but does it have more actual stopping power...? Maybe.

@ 2:00 The PP-19 Bizon SMG had a variant, the Bizon-2-07, which is a 7.62 Tokarev PP-19 that unlike all the other 6 models, didn't use the helical magazine that the weapon was known for, but a conventional 35-round steel box magazine that seems to be identical to ribbed PPS-43 magazines and is only capable of firing semi-auto. Seems like it was intended for the civilian market.

I didn't read all of the comments so, if this has been covered I apologize. You stated that the 7.62x25 had origins in the .30 Luger. This is not the case. It's origins go to the 7.63 or, .30 Mauser. During the Bolshevik revolution the Russians bought lots of Mauser C96 pistols. When they started to develop a new pistol the .30 Mauser was used since they already produced that ammo. They simply uploaded the ammo and that became 7.62x25 Tokarev. Adopted in 1930 for the TT30 and later the TT33.
