They condition their shins from an early age through microfracturing and then healing. It calcifies the bone and allows them to kick like this. It’s a practice that western kickboxing adopted after Thai fighters showcased how devastating kicking after conditioning the shins can be.

@@snaffu1 It’s more so an innate bias towards their own fighters from the judges, which is present in all Asian countries, and to some extent also in the west (although it’s gotten better over here). If you fight in Japan, Korea, China, or Thailand, against a respective fighter from said country, you either need to knock them out to win, or produce an *OVERWHELMINGLY* dominant victory. Otherwise you’re just gonna get robbed. In the west it’s predominantly prevalent in boxing. Fighting a Mexican fighter in Mexico? Have fun getting robbed if you don’t knock them out.

Buakaw is one of the greatest MT fighters of all time. He’s like the living embodiment of an fearless ancient mythical warrior, a genuine legendary fighter of the 21st century. I feel privileged to have trained and fought in MT during his era of dominance 20 years ago. He was a real inspiration.

I had the privilege to train with Buakav for 3 months. After practicing MMA for 15 years at AMC and with Cru Ramirez in Seattle/Tacoma among other places, I thought that I knew and had seen everything. Boy was I wrong. I have never seen anyone as quick and powerful as Cru Buakav. Absolutely vicious and learned so much.

Out of those 24 losses at least 2/3 are dubious judging. He really only lost around 8-10 times which is amazing in combat sports, let alone at the level he's operated at for so long. Probably my fav fighter to watch along with the great Ramon Dekkers r.i.p

Nobody remembers anymore, but I was there live when Buakaw fought Masato. It was the most controversial fight in K1 history. The ref retired after that fight because he let Masato take a beating so bad that Masato had to go to the hospital for kidney damage and he was pissing blood afterwards. Masato was so damaged from that fight that he was out of training for months. Judges were also bias and rigged the fight in favor of Masato. K1 was notorious for bias with their Japanese fighters and for their hatred of Buakaw. The Japanese have traditionally held a long standing racism for Thais. Note: Buakaws fight with Masato this time 29:00 was so brutal and damaging that Masato lost the tournament because of the damage he took from Buakaw.

That was K-1 MAX 2004, it was the tournament I remember the best and it was Buakaw's first big international chance to prove himself. And what a performance he gave oh my. First fight against John Wayne Parr was pretty even, but than watching him destroying, first Kohiruimaki and then Masato in the finals was priceless. He was simply on fire. @povang You are so lucky to be able to see this live, K-1 MAX was insanely popular in those days. It was truly the most rememberable tournament for me and is a-must-watch for all who love Muay Thai, highly recommended.

And Buakhaw ‘s idol, Samart Phayakorun, was truly at the top of Muay Thai. At that time, he fought until no opponent in the country dared fight him. So he turned to boxing and won belts in both Muay Thai and boxing, but foreigners hardly knew him. He is the most complete boxer of this era. I want you to make a history of Samat Phayak Arun.

I've been a huge fan of MMA since I rented video's of the first UFC Events as a teen in the mid 90's and I've been closely following it for 15 years or so. It's only been a couple of years since I started to watch some Muay Thai and Kickboxing, thanks to One Championship. But shortly after being exposed to the sport I discovered Buakaw and I was immediately captivated by his seemingly effortless ability to dispose of world class level fighters! First I watched a every career highlights video I could find on him, and then all the full fights available on YT and mini documentaries. It's just incredible to me to see him do what he does in a sport that has been around for so long and has so many dangerous fighters that compete so often from such a young age! Buakaw is the closest thing I've seen to a real life super hero🦸

Boxing has seen a lot of rule changes too. A lot of things inconceivable by today's standards have been allowed there had it been 150 years ago. changes kept coming up even after Queensberry rules. Judo had rule changes. The early UFC had almost no rules, and that got changed. Most rule changes exist to propel the sport forward, not to take it backward. In the case of K1 clinch rules, as much as ego-stroking as some of us would like to have it - but no, those changes were made out of simple calculation. To take the sport FORWARD, not backward. If the clinch rules remained free, then most of K1 fighters would immediately be at a disadvantage and would have to learn the new skills - just like MMA fighters had to learn grappling, courtesy of the Gracies. It so happens that the dominant form of ground game in the modern MMA - is BJJ. So, same would have to happen with kickboxing, eventually blurring the lines between it and muai thai. Not only the required time for athletes to reorganize and perform at the required level would be detrimental to the promotion itself, but also it would relegate the discipline itself to being a subdivision of a martial art that is far less marketable on its own (due to multiple reasons). Thus, a middle ground was found, where the rearrangement of the sport was minimal and at the same time shared enough common denominator with neighboring disciplines, allowing athletes to be competent enough at both. Such as Buakaw, John Wayne Parr, Rob Kaman.

This man is terrifying at only 155 lbs. He would beat the shit out of most people on the planet. Props to anyone who got in the ring with him and definitely big props to anyone who can still be standing at the end. There's obviously a lot of people who could win but they're top of the game type fighters in their respective weight and style, there's just something scary about a guy who's throwing a kick that looks like it could break your leg in half.

He's my favorite player. He is the athlete who introduced the greatness of Muay Thai to Japan. There are some comments that seem to be discriminating against Japanese people, but that's not true. Native Thai fighters are fearless, and the most terrifying reality of these guys is they are so comfortable in combat that they literally hold back until you give them something worthy of respect and they showboat the entire time. Seeing Buakaw throw a high level competitor to the ground with ease and not even try to stop himself from falling.. just leans on the ropes and smiles.. think about that shit. His hard work and struggle have paid off immensely.

I can't help doffing my hat to this discerning editors, a sagacious script writer, & an almost unrivaled convincing narrator w/ a rather low-pitched, husky, & dignified tone of voice who delivers it so effectively, and so he seems to be perfectly suited for this sort of show. But pls don't make the contents of the script too tough for ordinary people to comprehend, cause there are a plenty people whose native tongue is not English & yet love your videos. Parr in his first title fight also exposed Buakaw's weekness. He is an Australian and he trained in MuayThai gym in Thailand for years . He retired about a decade ago and opens MuayThai gym in Australia. His daughter is also good in MuayThai.

i watched this man almost 20 years ago, winning his first K-1, and i was impressed with him, from the start... he had to get used to the rules, so he got some warnings, but he fixed it fast...

Same here I lived in Japan 24 years and studied Karate competed in Shotokan full contact tournaments. It was great experience. Meet some good people. I still love the sport. Went to a lot of K-1 fights. I saw many of his fights.
