For those of you who are having trouble seeing it, really all you can try to do is imagine that whatever screen you're looking at is transparent, and then try to look *past* it, "into the distance". The beauty of these pictures is that once you hit the right amount of divergence, the repeating patterns will lock themselves into place, and you'll be able to look around and see the hidden stuff freely, without your eyes converging back. Then, do it enough times and you will have full control over the divergence. Take it slow though. Start with the picture with the Airplanes, Dinosaurs and Cakes, it is a HUGE help! For those of you who are gonna say that this is fake, the hidden message at 6:31 is "wow you did it" and "good job", and for the still skeptical, the one at the end is a winky face.

MatVenture When I try to see three dots, I have to move closer to my screen and that makes it blurry. How can I see three dots without blurriness?
@MatBaconMC
@MatBaconMC 6 жыл бұрын
Ok, my advice is, forget the dots. They will confuse your eyes, since you gotta look from them down to the image. Oh, and don't move near your screen, that's not necessary! What you can try doing instead is finding two repeating spots in the image, preferably in the middle, and then try to align these two into one [the "looking through/beyond your screen" thing]. Once you manage to get them aligned, just stare at that one newly formed spot and the hidden image will slowly appear around your periphery. I say really, just start with the picture at 5:06. Align the two center dinosaurs, keep your eyes there, and the whole image will lock into place. Then just do it over and over again until it becomes muscle memory, and you're good to go! Hope it helps!

I picked up one of those Magic Books in a bookstore back in the 90s and started reading it. I was fascinated immediately and bought it. It took me a couple minutes and I could see everything. Now after 30 years I can see them in just a split second. I also learned how to do the crosseyed method. My wife has never been able to figure it out and she used to think I was pulling her leg with it. Then the school our son goes to had a science day and had magic eye type pictures. No one was able to get them, then I open the book, and I am like, “horse, truck, boat, cow, etc. the second each page was turned. My wife is laughing because she thought I was lying, but the teacher said, “he’s right, on all of them!”

One thing people forget to mention is, in addition to diverting your eyes you must also keep your eyes (head) parallel to the picture. If the pic is straight then turning your head to one side or the other (even slightly) will make this much harder. There were a couple in this video that were skewed to the right and I needed to turn my head to see the image

another good trick that worked for me as a kid was to put your face reeeally close (nose touching the screen) and sloooowly move backwards, away from the screen. if your eyes cross, start over. it should stay blurry, but not double. If you cross your eyes, the image will be backwards, like with the background popping out instead of the image.

One thing the video doesn't say is that you definitely need to come out of full-screen mode for some of these to work. When they fill the whole monitor, they're just too big for the illusion to work.

The easiest way I found to practice this is to let your eyes diverge when it feels like they should. Try looking at something very close to your face. So close that it's hard to keep it in focus, and something small so you can still see the background. Your eyes will "want" to diverge because of the difficulty of focusing on something so close.

Assuming you have no problems with your eyes, it can take practice and patience to be able to teach yourself to divert your eyes easily. The way I taught myself when I was younger, was to get the image close to my face, look through it and then slowly pull it away until the trick pops out. It takes effort and focus to force your eyes to... well, not focus. Now I can do most magic eye things in a few seconds. I surprised myself on a couple of them with how quick I got it!

When I was a child, I would sometimes accidentally focus each eye separately on a a repeated image in a chain-link fence. This made these stereograms easier to see later, occasionally even doing a "double-deep" where you focus each eye on point's double-wide apart, making the image appear deeper, or in the case of "Magic Eye" (I own a first edition), scramble the image in some cases. Cool piece by Fong!

Chriscom28 haha yeah it can be pretty mind blowing the first time you see it. try moving the image farther and closer to your face while focusing on the 3d bit, it's a neat effect
@Competitive_Antagonist
@Competitive_Antagonist 7 жыл бұрын
Shaun Dreclin I haven't tried that before, but I've changed the angle and moved it up-down, left-right, which seems to give it a greater illusion of depth. I gonna try and move it forward and back next time, but still it's quite hard to keep my eyes in divergent focus. I have noticed how it seems to activate the parasympathetic nervous system. Holding the eye position seems to give an intense feeling of relaxation. Just tried moving it back and forward. This seems to make the illusion vanish. If the distance of the image changes, but the angle of the eyes doesn't then the eyes will probably enter the wrong state of focus. I'm probably going to have to gain better control if I wish to do this.

I first noticed this effect as a child staring at a ceiling with a repeated pattern. I noticed sometimes that the pattern seemed to pop out of the ceiling. I was a scientifically minded child and quickly worked out what was happening. I didn't see one of these stereogram images until much later but my experience as a child meant I could immediately see the image. It's pretty cool.

I found I had to tilt my head to the right a little to get the guide dots (and the planes, dinos and cakes) to line up horizontally. The guides really made a huge difference; I haven't been able to see a stereoscopic image since the 90s, and then only with guide dots. I seem to recall the Magic Eye books don't have the guide dots, so I could never see the pictures. Thank you for explaining how these work, especially with the 'wallpaper' type; knowing that each eye looks through its own image helped tremendously.

Another interesting information: There are actually 2 ways of seeing those. I have always seen the 3D-pictures, but they went INTO the book. When I spoke with my fiance about this book, she told me that they were coming OUT OF the book. That confused the heck out of me. Apparently I have been doing it correctly, but also incorrectly??!?! Did someone have the same experience? (Btw, this book was also an immense hit in Germany!)
@zobook
@zobook Жыл бұрын
Not really incorrect, but most are made for divergent view, if you converge it will "pop-under" the page. There are some that are made for convergent view (and so they will pop-out) and if you diverge they will pop-under.
@shingalani
@shingalani Жыл бұрын
Yes!! I also see them going "into". I thought I might have something wrong with my vision? Sometimes I see the many "layers" in 3D going deep into the back of the page (if that makes sense?)
@zobook
@zobook Жыл бұрын
@@shingalani Makes total sense. Is nothing wrong with your vision, you are just not using the intended technique. Sometimes there are 2 versions of the same stereogram, one for convergent view and other for divergent view. I can use both relatively easy but divergent is now harder for me when the "amount of divergence" is great. I'm just getting old, i guess....

I remember when these became popular, right around 1993 like she stated. The idea was super intriguing, and I jumped right into trying them. However, it was very difficult at first. You had to strain your eyes a lot and look at an image for a while, sometimes 10 minutes, before the magic finally happened (and then it was amazing). Because there's a mental exercise to it, a technique you kind of have to train and figure out for yourself. What might surprise folks is that it's actually easy to do, once you figure it out. It's really easy. The hard part is figuring out how for the first several times, because it can't be explained, and your eyes just aren't accustomed to what to "do". Once you do it enough times, eventually you "just get it". Ever since, I can look at one and pop out the 3D immediately. My mind just knows what to do, it takes almost zero effort. What's even more amazing is that this ability is reflexive, and sticks with you. I think I went 5-10 years or more where I forgot about these, and didn't look at one the entire time. Even after all that, I pulled my old books out of storage, and was like "oh yeah!"... and was surprised I could just instantly do the 3D. I suppose it's just like a bike, musical instrument, or skiing / snowboarding. You just learn it in some subconscious part of your brain, with practice, and a little experimentation. Then it just sticks; you can do it without even having to think about it.
