IMPORTANT UPDATE: Due to upcoming changes in Windows 11, the HP G2 is no longer a recommended headset for anyone using Windows 11. Windows 11 Update 24H2 will make the HP G2 inoperable as Microsoft is removing (deprecating) the Windows Mixed Reality Software (WMR) in that update. More information can be found online here learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/whats-new/deprecated-features IMPORTANT NOTE: Each of the Quest Headsets come in 2 versions, One with more storage and a more affordable unit with less storage. I talked about how I feel about the right one to choose on my Quest 3 Initial Impressions Video here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nLiifZqguqeynZs.html Basically if you can afford it, I'd recommend buying the larger storage option because that is something you cannot change or upgrade in the headset later.

I just picked up a quest 3 yesterday after watching your impressions video and I have to say I was blown away myself. I've had the Oculus CV1, then Index then lastly Pimax 8KX which I've loved (besides the giant and heavy size)but I'm thinking I'm going to start using the Quest 3 more in place of it for certain things. My fears were the lower FOV and less resolution but after trying it, yes its little lower resolution and of course lower FOV than the Pimax but it does not bother me one bit and like you said it's pretty clear and good with the pancake lenses plus the FOV is taller also. Also really enjoying the wireless aspect more than I though I would. The mixed reality is what shocked me the most and I'm really looking forward to what devs can improve upon with it. I can really see the potential and understand now why Apple is going more towards that route. I also wasn't aware you could adjust the facial interface in and out on the Quest 3 so thanks for that in your video. Keep up the good work and the longer the videos the better :)

Wow, I bet that was a bit of an upgrade for sure! Yes, there is just something about this headset that I just want to use it probably more than any other headset I've ever owned. It's just SOOOOOO easy to get into. I also appreciate you taking the time to watch the video considering its length. Its a tough call when editing, do I cut out important stuff just to keep the video shorter, or just go for a longer video so the info is there for anyone interested? I guess I lean towards longer despite that being against what most people recommend you do on KZfaq... but hey there are plenty of other videos out there for the TikTok crowd I guess. Thanks again for watching and I'm glad I didn't steer you wrong on the Quest 3.

Well Thank You for the kind words and for watching. It's just my style and I'm glad people are enjoying it. I know my videos can be too long for the TiKTok crowd, but that isn't really who I make them for anyway.

Great guide Mark. This covered just about everything for someone considering VR and maybe upgrading. You brought up a few points that others don't generally cover like expectations and vertical play space plus others. Useful well presented content. 👍

Great video as always. :) As for Fresnel lenses, the trick to them is that itty bitty sweet spot and figuring out how to get right into it, but once into it and you have the lenses as close to your eyeballs as possible, then your FOV gets bigger, clarity gets better and even looking side to side also gets better since you are not looking at the lenses but looking INTO the lenses. For a beginner that may not be too sure that VR is for them, I would recommend a used Quest-2 (to keep the price down in case you don't like it), try that, and once you have your VR legs and can get the most out of VR, then consider upgrading to a Quest-3 or other HMD. Don't knock it, the Quest-2 is still no slouch, better resolution than the Valve Index, better fresnel lenses too. As for the Dekard, my guess it'll be outdated at launch like the Index was, the Index's resolution was the problem for me, there were already two HMDs with that resolution on the market (Vive Pro and Samsung Odyssey), so when it comes to leading edge, I don't trust Valve until I see the new HMD released. Yes, they are taking their own sweet time.

Great Comment Jack! Thanks for taking the time to write it. This is a great perspective for sure... I personally HATED the Quest 2 and wouldn't waste a dollar on it (but then again I know I love VR). The Quest 2 was like looking through a straw and I just disliked the experience from the moment I put it on my head. What I'd recommend instead is buy the Quest 3 headset from a store you can easily return it to if you decide you don't like it... that way you are not wasting $100 that could go towards a much better experience. So just to be clear, I think Jack has a very valid approach here... I just personally found the Quest 2 to be garbage.

@@GYGOtv Actually, I never thought of the buy with a return policy for the Quest 3. I mentioned the Quest-2 due to it being dirt cheap on the used market now days (people upgrading to Quest 3). Agreed, I loved my G2V2 a LOT more than my Quest-2 but the Quest-2 served it's purpose for what I needed as a upstairs HMD. Now with the Quest 3 being very close to the G2's distance viewing clarity (Racing and flight sims), it's a pretty amazing HMD for it price point. I also have a Pico 4 and it's pancake lenses are no where as good as the Quest-3's. The Pico 4 will start to get fuzzy at the outter edges as you use your eyes to look there, but the Pico 4 has much better binocular overlap, the Quest-3 isn't so great for this when using your eyes to look at the edges of the lenses.

@@jackr.749Awesome, thanks for the info on the Pico, I've never used one so any info in it is appreciated. The reason I say do the return policy is because I'd hate for someone to get a Quest 2 and not think VR is for them, when they may have had a different reaction if they had tried the Quest 3 instead. You know what they say... you only get one chance to make a first impression. Thanks again for the great comments jack!

Take care my friend, I'll be visiting your Livestream soon!

Really great video with a lot of information! I'm going to order some prescription inserts for my headset when I get my new glasses prescription through. Someone's already mentioned it but the Pico 4 is a great choice if you can pick it up second hand somewhere. I don't believe there's eye tracking but it does use pancake lenses. The pancake lenses was the main reason why I upgraded to the Pico 4 from the Quest 2. The quest 2 also had absolutely awful software for PCVR, mine kept cutting out...

Thanks for watching! Yep the Pico 4 is certainly an option for those not living in North America, but from what I understand it isn't quite as big of a FOV as the Quest 3 and isn't as bright either, and the Stand Alone isn't even close to what the Meta Store offers. I can imagine going from the Quest 2 to the Pico was AMAZING but I think the Quest 3 edges the Pico out slightly. Now if the Pico 5 actually has a Display Port, that is something the Quest doesn't so that's why I mention it at the end.

As usual a great video. However you didn't mention Pico 4 which is very similar to Quest 3 but much less money and just as good. I realize it is not available in North America, just for us Europeans and Asian countries at present. The Pico 4 is available for just over £300 in the UK and is standalone or wire linked and has pancake lenses with motor ipd adjustment.

Thanks David, Yep I kinda mention the Pico in the end but I have never tried one so I'm hesitant to say much about it. I did some research on it, but what I found was some people say it is just as good (some even claim better) and others find it lacking so I couldn't really come up with a consensus that I was comfortable with. I did not remember the auto IPD? So does it have eye tracking too? Thanks for the info and as always appreciate you watching.

Hello, thanks for your job, all the information are great. I am building a new pc and I will have the 4080 just for VR. I am really into DCS world and MFS so I wanted to shift from a 27inch monitor to VR. I understan everything about this video for new people that are going into VR but I saw your video (and others) about pimax and varjo... and I wanted one of those. I think I will buy the Varjo for many reasons BUT i'm wondering about the vertical field of view that you were talking about. So my question is: For someone that never experienced the VR and that use a 27 inch monitor on pc or a 55 inch playing xbox do I will notice this rectangular view that you are talking about or I will be just super excited about VR? I understand the Pimax is better in the view but Varjo as something more in all other things, like software really easy to use, materials, they have a looooong hystory behind, custmer service etc... thanks a lot

Hi alessandrorenna, thanks for the question. The answer to your question is YES... on both :) First off, coming from ANY flat monitor to VR will likely absolutely Blow Your Mind, especially a 27inch! That being said, one of the first reactions most people have is how they didn't expect to see the goggle effect (or limited FOV). Now that quickly passes as the rest of what VR does overcomes that limitation... but it is there. Then as you get more familiar with the VR Experience, that is when you will probably notice that limited VFOV more, and honestly it impacts different people differently. So for me for example, it does not bother me that much, but for other people they hate it. The best way I can describe it would be to think about your view in real life and then think about how that view is changed when you put on a baseball cap. That is kind of the effect, you suddenly can't look up and see as easy as you could before putting the cap on. That is kind of the Aero... it's like wearing a baseball cap view wise. I hope that makes sense and helps explain it. In closing, I'm excited for you to be getting into the VR World, it is an experience unlike any other and I hope you love it as much as I do. Obviously I do have to mention that I do have an affiliate link for the Aero if you would like to help our channel out varjo.idevaffiliate.com/111.html but either way I think you are in for a treat! Please let me know if you have any other questions.

@@GYGOtv thanks for the quick answer. I live in Italy and if I will buy the aero I will do from the link above (if it works in Italy). Your explanation si great. I am a scuba diver instructor and I know what you mean since I wear all the time a scuba mask 🤣🤣🤣🤣 so probably I wont have any problem ahahah. Anyway I am a lot confused now because I have the budget to buy the aero but I don't know if it wiser buy the quest 3 as first VR purchase or go straight to varjo. thanks again very much I really appreciate it
@GYGOtv
@GYGOtv 7 ай бұрын
@@alessandrorenna7690LOL, yes if you are a diver, you will probably find either mask fine... FOV is smaller in my Scuba mask than my VR HMDs for sure. I guess I'd say on the Quest 3 vs. the Aero... they are very similar experiences. If you want the best visuals for your flight sims then probably Aero... but if you want to do other things like roomscale VR or Mixed Reality then the Quest 3. Quest 3 is probably about 80% visually of the Aero and Crystal. The only bad thing on the Quest 3 is no Eye Tracking so you won't be able to take advantage of Dynamic Foveated Rendering for the Flight Sims, which can help with performance and frame rate. Hope that helps!

Hi fgreece9481. The Crystal is an amazing headset, and I do have a full review of it here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iJqHlMKp3NfJd2g.html But there is no way I'd recommend a $1600 headset to someone beginning VR. In addition to being expensive, it is big, heavy and a pain in the ass to set up compared to the Quest 3. Not a good choice for most beginners. Thanks for the question.
