We believe that one of the strongest forces in the universe is the “Need to Create”: every time you build something out of nothing, every time you give shape and organization to something that has no structure - you are creating a miracle.
At Keen Software House we have two areas of interest. Independent game development with our in-house VRAGE engine. Research & development in the field of artificial intelligence.
Keen Software House was founded in 2010 by Marek Rosa, it is privately owned and dictates its direction through team collaboration.

A lot of people in the comments seem to be missing the point of what is essentially a pre pre-alpha sneak peek. so the performance is more comparable to a tech demo (also the video was recorded/rendered at just 22fps)

To be fair, the pre-launch KSP2 footage looked choppy and people said the same thing and on release KSP2 was... extremely choppy. This definitely looks good in comparison though, I can't wait to see what they do with the engine!

Nice. I hope the physics also benefit from the new engine. For example, preventing free-floating voxels. It doesn't even have to happen quickly. The important thing is that they fall down at some point if they are not connected to the ground. ;)

Optimisations can only come after everything else is done. Otherwise with every revision of code you need to start from scratch in some parts and that is such a waste of time.
@Dontbeabadguy
@Dontbeabadguy 26 күн бұрын
@@cipherstormwolf14 You're totally wrong. If one day you're making a car, will you wait the end to start to check for optimisation of the engine ? If you're making your house, will you build it and then ask yourself how to optimise wires and water pipes ? Of course in a game, you got the chance to do it over, but that's how you're creating tons of bugs and long term problems. Just remember that planets on S.E are now 9 years old and we still have to shut down our server every 6 hours to avoid any sim speed loss. We have to limit PCU and everything else. 30 + ppls on a server start to be a mess after only few days. And no, This is not because peoples are doings wtf stuff, it's only because dev prefers to add more stuff before optimises it.

@@Dontbeabadguy While you have a fair point, and of course they'd have to consider optimisation early on to get the best out of it they can, if what you want to do is proof test some tech for creating mountains like this, it could just be done the "easy" way. A quick visual test of them to check if it's what the team wants, again visually, and then they can go back in and really pull the weeds out of the code of it and get it optimised. This test may also include WIP lighting features that aren't too obvious but drain FPS too. I do reckon VRAGE 3 will be a PC killer, but not necessarily any more than any other super new high fidelity game that's coming out. And they've definitely got plenty of time to figure it all out too, since this is pre-pre-pre-pre alpha as far as we know. They've not even really done player movement past just basic dev stuff. It's more focusing on creating tech for the engine, rather than a game per se at the moment, it seems at least.

Can you do caves yet? Can you do proper biomes yet instead of painting uninspired latitude stripes? Can you properly map "water" to the lakes they meant to go? Can you properly draw heightmaps yet so that they line up along their edges without needing modders to fix your incompetence and complete disinterest in fixing or, gasp, doing it right in the first place?
@XMaster340
@XMaster340 19 күн бұрын
I know you just want attention for your whining, but yes, caves are already possible and have been shown multiple times in other tech demos, water has also been shown several times. And there's no need to draw lakes as the water will flow to the correct locations. As far as I'm aware, there has not been any news on how biomes work, but even the old engine supports more interesting biomes. There just aren't any planets that use this. Same with the height maps. The new engine tools should also be able to remove a lot of the problems of the old engine in that regard.

What are you talking about? This is an amazing tech demo shot. The main problem is that they post this video on their main channel where a lot of uneducated non-tech people will see it. I mean they even added lighting and shadows which is completely unnecessary for a tech demo showcasing terrain. This video is extremely high quality.
