If your VTEC solenoid gasket is bad, consider getting the Altrom gasket from Napa rather than going to Honda. It’s about $13 cheaper. It’s made in Japan. And it comes in a bag that is labeled ‘Keihin’. When you do this job, you will probably notice that Keihin also manufactures the oil filter/VTEC solenoid holder that this gasket seals. Keihin is in fact a major supplier for Honda. It would appear that the Napa Altrom gasket is indeed an OEM Honda part, but for little more than half the price.

Thank you for this I just got my Vtec solenoid gasket from Honda. I noticed over the past little while my car is leaking oil. It is not enough to affect the level. But it is enough to cover the car in oil on the bottom of a little bit. I thought the oil pan gasket is leaking but it is indeed the Vtec solenoid gasket. Awesome video thank you

Ignore the haters who complain that you're showing them a repair with the engine out. Both this video and the timing belt video with the engine out of the car helped me a lot when I was doing both repairs on my car (with the engine in the car).

Keep in mind that there is another o-ring in this general area that commonly leaks: the ‘Figure 8’ o-ring between the oil pump and engine block. This o-ring is significantly harder to replace than the VTEC solenoid o-ring (it requires removal of the crank pulley, oil pan, and timing belt). Replacement of this o-ring also requires replacement of the VTEC solenoid o-ring since the VTEC solenoid/oil filter holder must be removed to get the oil pump off. So before replacing ONLY the VTEC solenoid o-ring, confirm that this (or the other two o-rings mentioned here) is indeed the ONLY source of your leak. Otherwise, you will be replacing the VTEC solenoid o-ring twice.

Thank you for this video! I have replaced these gaskets/o-rings yet still have a small leak around this area. The leak is so small that I cannot even detect it with a dye. The strangest thing is that it leaks onto the exhaust pipe at higher RPM so I usually smell it when merging on the freeway. Super frustrating! Any ideas?

Planning to do this weekend. Any chance you have torque values for re-assembly? Also, some people suggest using Honda Bond. I'm guessing it's not necessary if the surfaces are cleaned prior to new gaskets being installed? Thanks for making this!

I just found out that the 3.0 L V6 from the 2005-2007 Accord Hybrid is the only 3.0 L J-series engine without the VTEC solenoid in the oil filter bracket. The Hybrid actually uses the same "spool valve" that is found in the 3.5 L Odyssy/Pilot engine. I don't know if everything's in the same place, but I'll soon find out. My engine stumbles right above 3,000 RPM, so it's likely either a clog, suck solenoid or missing signal in the VTEC system.

Could I ask you why you replaced? I have a 3.0 accord throwing a p2646 code. Screens dirty ? switch broke? Or Should I just go ahead and change the entire solenoid itself. Wonder if O rings come with the full assembly?

@@alexandercahoulan6583 I'm going to change the vtec gasket and adjacent solenoid o ring, i'll start from cheapest. If its oil panleaking its staying that way until timing belt gets replaced in a few years haha. Its annoying and sometimes the oil filter gets some oil on it yet I dont lose all that much oil via the dipstick.
