A Brazilian three-banded armadillo was just born at Poland's Wroclaw Zoo. The armadillo, sometimes called a bolita or tatu-bola, is native to South America, and is considered a vulnerable species.

This is a popular myth yes they do carry leprosy but it's so rare only 30 individuals have ever been found to test positive for leprosy it was likely a localized pandemic that effect that specific population of armadillos this however does not mean all armadillos have leprosy

When I lived in SE Louisiana, they were all over. They would come out the wooded areas and eat the dry cat food I put out for neighborhood outside cats. The cats began getting seizures suddenly and the vet was suspicious they had possibly carried a neurologic contagious disease to the cats. Of course. it could've been several other things too.
