Neon Noir will be VV - Ville Valo formerly of the band, HIM - first solo LP. To be released in 2023. The first single, ‘Loveletting’ will be released April 8th.
Second single, Echolocate Your Love, was released, September 2, 2022, accompanied with a music video. The album will feature 12 songs, and will be a double issue vinyl, due to the length being 56 minutes and change, a standard 12 inch vinyl can hold 19 minutes max on one side. This album will be the longest non-compilation(s) album ever released by Ville Valo.
On 20 March 2020, Valo released the surprise EP Gothica Fennica Vol. 1, under the moniker VV.[59] Two of its three tracks charted in Finland.[60][61] Valo was later named Artist of the Year at the Radio SuomiRock awards ceremony, while "Run Away from the Sun" received the award for Song of the Year.[62] In April 2022, Valo released "Loveletting", the first single from his debut solo album Neon Noir, which was released on 13 January 2023. Valo will also embark on a world tour, beginning in January 2023.[63][64] His backing band will consist of guitarists Mikko Virta and Sampo Sundström, bassist Juho Vehmanen and drummer Risto Rikala.
During his solo career, Valo has used a variation of the heartagram with two extra lines forming the moniker VV. Regarding the symbol, Valo jokingly stated: "Artistically speaking the main difference between HIM and VV is the extra line in the heartagram, but what an exquisite line it is!"[64]

Wow, Crash really went... gaga for the lavishness of Vile. And, as someone who doesn't have the highest range (I'm a baritone), Vile's songs are easy for me to sing, which I love.

I personally loved it. My first tattoo ever was a Heartagram and I know I'll never regret about it. HIM and Ville are one of a kind and this record proves that. It's Ville being himself.

Was listening to this on the way to work and I love it, as a long time HIM fan I thought it was great, but I do agree with your points tho I did miss that heavier, crunchy guitar at times but I still loved the record. Its funny tho, as I was listening to it I thought about you crash and wondered if you'd make a video on it, so I was happy to get the notification, Keep on rocking Crash!

I really enjoyed this album. For me, the song Neon Noir is a top 5 Ville Valo/HIM song. The rest of the album lands somewhere between 6-7.5. New viewer btw, loved the video :)

I love this album! It was my first CD purchase of this year. I got the deluxe book version of the album, and the package looks very nice and slick. Almost like... a book. Wow

I'm not a huge HIM fan but listened to Rock and Metal for th last 35 yrs. As a standalone piece of music, it's stunning. There's no weak track in my opinion. Will be on my Album Of the year list come December for sure

The absence of Linde, Mige, Burton, and Gas screamed so loud on this record that it broke the sound barrier, and it was very jarring. THAT SAID, Neon Noir was still a good record. The lyrics are so Ville as ever, the melodies are as solid as ever, and my god Ville has proven once again why he is my favorite vocalist of all time. What sorcery has allowed his pipes to STILL be god-tier levels of incredible?

I get the critique of production, drums etc. but there was no mention that this was a true solo album written, performed and produced by one guy. I dare any lead singer of a band to try that and see if they call pull off what Ville Valo just did.

Indeed, some have called it HIM 2.0, but to be fair, Ville wrote and arranged most of HIMs stuff so it would of course, sound the same. l will say however, that there is a more personal vibe, like you see a bit more of the man behind the tunes, likely because he wrote and recorded the music himself while trapped by the Covid pandemic. A lot of soul searching. Hard for me to say what the best track was. I truly adored Neon Noir but Vertigo Eyes outro has me straight tripping on acid… blacklight blue, baby.

I am a HIM fan since early 2000, I agree with your review. Something between SW and ToT, and boys are missing on this album, however, I think the keyboard is better.

I totally get the absence of the heavier guitars and soloing since Ville played all of the instruments himself. It's rather impressive what he could do all by himself. Still a valid point.

I'm a HIM fan, and this is a great album, it brings back that sweet melodies from the Deep Shadows era, not so strong like Razorblade or Love Metal but still an amazing job.. but, to be honest, personally i miss the raw sound from the early HIM, like in Borellus, or Serpent Ride.. this is a new beggining, a new Ville, and that's totally ok, it sounds just fine on it's own.. greetings from Argentina

hi! ive never watched this channel before but it was randomly recommended to me so i clicked. i was hyped for this album since i heard about it, and when it came out i isntatly listened, had mixed feelings at first but i think it's great now. i'm a huge HIM fan and this def isn't far from it which is awesome. i agree with all your points about it.

Honestly if you like HIM then you could check out End Of Green. Its an german band which is a little older then HIM and does Dark Rock a little longer too. They have an alternative/doom metal tintch to their sound and a vocalist with an interesting range who even has an solo album under the name of Michelle Darkness. Nowadays their music is a little more tame compared to their fun edgy beginnings. Also btw we call bands such as HIM, End Of Green, Schock or Lacrimas Profundere Dark Rock/Metal rather then goth. Its an genre name which came out of Germany with bands such as Secret Discovery or Dreadful Shadows coining that term. Basically that genre is rock or metal with elements of goth, pop and or electronic elements. Sven Friedrich from Dreadful Shadows, Zeraphine and Solarfake was basically the first Vile Valo girlscrush before Vile took over his spot xD

Pretty much captures how I feel about the record. Very HIM vibes, but missing that heaviness that HIM was known for but still dripping with that delicious gothiness. And plenty of sultry Ville. Great review!

I think the reason why the production and mixing on this album sounds a lot muddier this time around was because this album was recorded during the pandemic and was co produced and mixed in the way in Austin, Texas and mastered in New York city. So that would explain the production not really matching the mixing and mastering on this thing.

As a long time HIM fan ....you really shouldn't compare it to pre-Love Metal for the HIM we all know and love nor Dark Light ,Venus Doom or scream works cause there different styles ... But you gotta respect Ville's love for making music and i think he done well as a one man army .Very nice album and the next one will be even better . also if you want a Pre- Love Metal feel of a band try 616- Bam Margera's directional band ( he doesn't sing) but its a carbon copy of old HIM style music with some absolute belters

It's definitely a solidly upper mediocre HIM album. I'll happily listen to it but if it was a choice between any HIM album and this, I'd probably put on Dark Light instead. I'm interested to see what he does after this though.

HIM and his Voice and the guitar sounds are my Beginning of the Journey into Heavy Metal (actually Symphonic) Never saw them. Loved HIM but Ville Valo still has a wonderful Voice. Yes it is not HIM cause its Ville. Some Songs are feeling like HIM. Just softer, less heavy. Fine for me. There is also a slow Version of When Love and Dead embrace in a jazzy Version where he goes Elvis at the End. He still has a great Vocal Range and i am courious about it. Heard it. Love it. Even if it is less heavy.

Givin that ville did it alone it's well done and redone heartagram is just to show its Ville on his own , he made up the symbol, don't see what the issue is , if bam can use it ville can redesign it . Also he has how many heartagram tattoos on him might as well use it .
