Winnebago Rialta and Volkswagen Eurovan 01P Heavy Duty Transmission Rebuild, Take a Look Inside of the teardown and disassembly!
The 01P is a modified version of the 01M, which is actually a Jetta and Passat transaxle, so it's little surprise that it is just not enough transmission in much heavier and more powerful vehicles.
We have seen transaxle failures in little as 40,000 miles in these Rialtas and Eurovans

01P 098 fits the 1992-2003 VW Eurovan, Riata, Transporter and other models and is known to be a high failure component in these applications. Transmission problems are one of the main concerns with owners of these vehicles.

As performance transmission rebuilders, we are able to apply some of the same tricks and modifications to the 01P as we apply to high horsepower vehicles and extreme use light trucks to strengthen the gearbox.
The O1P is a factory modification of the 01M. The OEM level 01P transmission modification is intended for minivans and minibuses. It transmits higher torque and is paired with a transverse located engine of up to 2.8 liters - VW Sharan, Ford Galaxy, VW Transporter (T2/T4), VW Eurovan (Transporter T4), MB V-Class(2.8L 2000-2002), Seat Alhambra.

Awesome video. You can tell how knowledgeable a mechanic is at there job by how they disassemble: You obviously know how it goes back together as you nonchalantly toss parts in every corner of the table. I would feel confident trying to rebuild my tranny with this video. How do you diagnose a bad torque converter vs slipping clutches? In first and second my Eurovan don’t immediately engage until higher rpm, or I pump the gas. I assume it’s either a low fluid pressure, worn clutch plates , or the torque converter. No gear grinding or metal in the pan. It has burn fluid, new valve body. Any help would or advice would be amazing.

Thank you! I just had mine rebuilt a few years ago, now it's in limp mode with an intermittent solenoid fault code. Hoping I can just change the solenoid (hope it's not too involved), the ribbon cable, neutral safety switch, fluid, gasket, and filter and everything will be ok.

Make sure your TCM is good too. Or reset it incase it’s maintaining old shift habits.

My 01p is draining so much of it’s fluid when you step on the gas, 1qt lasts 5-10min. All gears shift smoothly though, while there’s fluid in there. Most likely the pump seal as it’s leaking from between the engine and transmission?

Thanks for all the info! It’s really useful. Do you know if the transmission pan on the 01P is the same as the one used on the 01M? Part 01P-321-359 isn’t available anymore, but 01M-321-359 is readily available.

I may at some point, I have a couple that I need to build. The downside of my shop being busy it that it’s sometimes hard to find the time to put out videos as often as I would like

Tough to say because quite a number of things can cause a no reverse condition If it’s damaged internally, it would really need to be disassembled to see exactly what was wrong so it’s foolish for me to try to guess.
