Here's a tip to stay super clean while doing a transmission flush. Once you get enough space stick and fluid extractor in the pan to extract the transmission fluid. Worked out great for me since I didn't have a lift. Once again thanks for all the help with this job. Just waiting on the new o-rings to do the Haldex

I’m looking at the service manual…for the transmission pan it says 7NM in a diagonal pattern. Also says it’s safe to reuse gasket after checking for cuts and deformation.

Great video. I have to do mine...without the lift. When you let the fluids warm up and cycle through the gears...did you have the tires spinning in the air? How do you get the transmission to cycle I to the high gears? Did I miss something?
@jakebaun8422 Жыл бұрын
No need for a lift, four jackstands was my method for 29 years prior to owning one. I did allow the tires to spin in the air, at idle speed and shifted “manually” through the gears. However if you’re not able to do this simply putting it in gear with the brakes applied should be sufficient as long as you can do so safely & with long enough pauses to properly circulate transmission fluid.

How does the Tranny fluid not leak out when you remove the adapter?
@jakebaun84222 жыл бұрын
It has a stand pipe up to the fill level, so the correct amount is left behind below that point (at the correct temperature) since volume increases with temp.

Dope video! Interesting tidbit u mentioned about the tranny. Wife is really in between many choices. The atlas being one of em What’s your opinion on that new apr turbo? I’d love to see a video with the thoughts from a man who is not only an end user but also a developer for the platform
@BaunPerformance2 жыл бұрын
The Atlas is great for what it is, but mine (& Rick’s) only complaint is lack of power. For your average driver it’s fine, but an enthusiast (or anyone who tows) will want something with more on tap. The VR6 does love boost, but adding a turbo or supercharger would add up to SQ5 money. The new APR turbo sounds great on paper and I hope it’s everything they’re claiming! I’ve been tuned APR since early 2016 on my personal car (stage 1, 2, & now is38). If APR offered to do a partner deal id love to install one and review it vs their is38 file (something I think tons of people would like to see an objective video on), but as for just going out and buying one unfortunately I’ve got house mod plans this spring that’ll keep me from that. Maybe tag them and light a fire under Arin from APR haha
@SheekTresSesenta2 жыл бұрын
@@BaunPerformance thanks for that info, I’d imagine something as heavy as the atlas really would require more power just so it could get out of its own way. I’ll call apr now and tell em LOL thanks for your insight!

@BaunPerformance Жыл бұрын
$300-400ish depending on your location. Some dealers price gouge double that
@bmw803 Жыл бұрын
@BaunPerformance That's why you call them STEALERS. My local STEALER said close to $900. I politely said, GFY. I'll buy the fluid, filter and gasket and get it done with my local mechanic.
@garyallman303910 ай бұрын
The VW kit alone is over $500. That gasket, from VW, is something like $75, the filter is $114, and the VW fluid is in the range of $44/qt. It is an Aisin 8 speed, so the Aisin or Toyota WS fluid is probably okay, at closer to $11/qt.

Anything specific would be in the video, so that’ll be your best reference. The bevel box and rear differential take gear oil, and the Haldex takes thinner specific fluid. Sorry I don’t have details handy off the top of my head, not only is that not my Atlas, but also not the type of work I do as I’m a full time aircraft mechanic & part time fabrication shop (don’t do any car maintenance outside of helps buddies like Rick).

This is a light hearted, one take, couple guys in the shop after work, but before plans our wives made afterwards time limited video. If you want a step by step with graphics and manual references, part numbers, torque specs, ECT this particular video isn’t it
@paWD402 ай бұрын
@@BaunPerformance The video is great overall, what I meant is you already spent so much time creating it, so including final step of releasing the drain plug would make it whole, but regardless I did mine and had funny result. After replacing the filter in the transmission, filled back with 3L, heated to 36'C, released the plug and nothing came out for 3 sec, then barely anything, but I wanted to do the flush anyway, so removed the internal pipe, and let the mixture of old fluid from tq conv with that 3L of fresh fluid out, and re-filled again with 3L. Heated again to 36'C and now after removing drain plug, the fluid was coming out long due to 0.5in pan, and 0.5 in filter, so 2nd time without removing pan 3L is way too much.
