In this DIY video I explain how to perform an automatic transmission fluid and filter service on our Mk1 Volkswagen Tiguan SE 4Motion (AWD) (2009-2018) which has a TSI 2.0T CCTA EA888 Gen 2 engine. This process is identical for the following vehicles that have the same engine and transmission combination: Beetle, Golf, Jetta, CC, Eos, & Passat.
Reasons for service:
-Maintenance interval due every 50,000 miles*
-Transmission starting to slip in between gear shifts
-Transmission starting to clunk/bang between gear shifts
*Depending on specific model of vehicle maintenance schedule, some vehicles have "Lifetime Fluid".

@RedsVolkswagenRepair
@RedsVolkswagenRepair 8 ай бұрын
Glad I could help! Real quick though, if i'm not mistaken the cc with the vr6 4motion might have a DSG transmission and not a normal automatic transmission. I can't remember. But if it is a DSG transmission it will say it on your shifter inside the car. Only difference in the entire procedure is that there is a fluid filter that sits on top of the transmission underneath the battery tray that will need to be replaced during the service. Other than that, the fluid fill process is the same. Don't forget to subscribe if you haven't already, thanks!

Great Video! My wife has a 2018 Tiguan SEL Premium. I know there was a body style change for the 2018 Tiguans, but how can I tell if our Tiguan is like the 2011-2018 or 2018-2022 version of the Tiguan? The main way I know about the body style change is when I changed the Evap Canister and order the wrong part. Of course the Evap Canister for the version Tiguan we have was twice the price as the wrong Evap Canister.
@RedsVolkswagenRepair

Thank you! 2009-2018 are the same until the split in body style towards the end of 2018. The 2018-present is a completely different body style. If yours looks mostly like mine (yours will have a face lift of only trim) then the process on this video is exactly the same. The current body style is the same process just things might look a little different. Hope this helps! Don’t forget to subscribe if you haven’t already, thanks!

So i made a mistake trying to change the oil on my 2018 tiguan with 60k miles. I accidentally drained the trans fluid and never took the fill level "plug" out. It drained about a quart, can i just fill a quart with the engine cold and call it good? Obviously doing the full service is best but just to get it driving for a bit until i get everything i need for full service
@RedsVolkswagenRepair
@RedsVolkswagenRepair 10 ай бұрын
Good question. These transmissions are pretty picky about having the correct amount of fluid or they will slip and there is no way to know exactly how much came out. What I would do is throw 2 quarts in and go through the actual level check procedure at the correct temperature THEN call it a day.

Thanks for the video. I recently bought a 2013 Tiguan that had an issue and all the transmission fluid leaked out. Found a pinhole in the transmission oil cooler - it appears a clamp worn through over time. Anyway, we replaced that part, bought new fluid, gasket, filter etc..from Blauparts and pumped in the new fluid. We had quite a bit of air in the line, but when we got the engine up to temp, it seemed to drain ok until it trickled or stopped. Car drove fine for a few days, now we have an issue when we accelerate hard to take off from a dead stop, it briefly accelerates, then acts almost like it slips and revs very high, not moving forward anymore. I understand the transmission may be bad, but could I be missing something else? Since all the fluid drained out of the system from the leak, is it possible we needed more than 6 qts? We are discouraged at this point. We replaced ABS Speed Sensors at each wheel as we heard it might be those. Replaced the MAF as well, no change. We are not getting any codes or check engine light either. Thanks for any help.
@RedsVolkswagenRepair
@RedsVolkswagenRepair 10 ай бұрын
Hmmm, no codes in the transmission module? Slipping is usually a sign of low fluid. If the leak was bad enough it’s possible that the torque converter was also partially emptied. In this case it may need more than the 6 quarts normally provided in the kit. Now that you have driven it and probably fully filled up the torque converter, I would connect a scanner and read the transmission fluid temperature. When the level check temperature is reached, pull just the drain plug (leaving the level check insertion tube inside the pan). If only a couple of drops come out, it is low. If a constant trickle comes out, level is good. If the level is low, turn the car off and let it sit for a long while until everything is back to ambient temperature. Hook up your transmission fluid fill apparatus and start with adding 2 quarts. Then perform the level check procedure again. Repeat if necessary.

Just wanted to update you on what I ended up doing. The transmission was bad. I took it to a local mechanic and he installed a used transmission with low miles. I also had him repair some broken wiring under the passenger as it didn't work. Now I am trying to figure out what to do about getting a keyfob for it. I didn't get any when I bought the car, just a regular key was provided. Looking forward to your suggestions. Thanks again for your response to my previous concern.

Hello, Just wanted to say awesome tutorial video on this one. I subscribed to your channel! I just finished up this procedure on my 2011 tiguan 2.0tsi 4motion with 193000 kms. Got it level on 4 jack stands, dropped the oil, pan, and filter. First off, I only got 3 liters of fluid that came out. (Shifted fine, no issues) Replaced new filter, and new pan gasket and fluid level tube. Did a fill with 6 liters of Liquimoly atf 1200. Got the temp up to 40°C, dropped the drain plug while it was running. Here's the strange thing. I got a steady stream of fluid the whole time, never did get the trickel like you mentioned. I ended up with 2 liters of fluid removed. Is this okay? I don't have a live data scanner. In theory I should be up 1 liter of fluid from what was taken out. What's your thoughts on this? Thanks
@RedsVolkswagenRepair
@RedsVolkswagenRepair 8 ай бұрын
Hey, glad I could help out! And thanks for subscribing. Good question. Sounds like you did everything perfectly, maybe just didn’t wait long enough until it trickled out. Here in the states we use quarts so I’m not sure about liters, but I normally put 5 quarts in and it drains out about 1. I wouldn’t focus on how much is in the car though. As long as you have a trickle in the temperature check range, you will be good.
@MrMirada82
@MrMirada82 8 ай бұрын
1 liter is 1.06 quarts. Did you not put 6 quarts in the transmission in this video? I was understanding you put in 6 quarts and then drained out 1 quart. I put in 6 liters (6.36 quarts) and drained out 2 liters (2.12 quarts)
@RedsVolkswagenRepair

@@MrMirada82 You’re right, I put 6 in. My fault. You will be good if you end up having about 4.5 quarts in the transmission. 👍

DSG is the rear differential and that fluid is not lifetime. I actually made a video for that. You should check it out! As far as the transmission in the Tiguan, yes it is “Lifetime” fluid but I recommend performing this service every 50k miles. There is literally no difference in the transmissions that Volkswagen put in the Jettas and Tiguans but the Jettas scheduled maintenance card says to replace every 50k. Soooooo…..

@@NWCI Reason I was asking if it was slow to start was to see if something inside the connection of the transmission to engine is putting too much pressure on the crankshaft/output shaft. For example… the torque converter not being fully seated into the transmission and then bolting the transmission and engine together. But if it wasn’t slow to start I wouldn’t think that’s your problem. Sounds like something else is going on possibly not related to the transmission.
