Hello, why does the timing synchronization change from 1.2 on a cold engine to 0.4 on a warm 90 C? Is the timing correctly installed? 1.6 tdi cayc engine ....

Hi Dave, I have just changed the belt on a 2015 Audi A1 1.6 TDI. Fitting the lower idler wheel after the new belt is fitted was a top tip! Your explanation really helped me to understand what is going on, rather than just doing it by numbers and hoping for the best.

thanks for sharing dave done loads of the euro 5 all right. not a big fan of not changing the tensioner and pulleys but as long as the customer knows the consequence good job bud

A lot of work there Dave , I don’t think the engine designers think too much about the hoops mechanics like yourself have to jump through just to get access to the timing belt.... a good job , well done 👍

Hi Dave. Very detailed video. Just wondering if the belts tend to go due to age or is it usually mileage. I have a 2015 Polo CUSA with 30k miles and afaik original cam-belt. Might take it up to 50k then replace...

Excellent! It would be great if you could do the 1.2 tsi engine. I don't think anyone else has done that one.They are very common but requires a few specialist tools.

Can I ask what the key to success in getting the final injection pump in the correct place is ? Is rotating it clockwise fully during belt installation the key prior to tension? Man thanks my friend

Dave done one of these but no water pump with the kit, alot of miles later water pump failure, is there a reason for reuse of the old pump, its electronic version pump? Ps one of the most detailed tutorials I've seen !!

Hi i have a question if you could answer for me please. I done my timing belt and it was about half a tooth out of timing since i didn't put in the 2 bolts from the crank pulley back into the timing tool just used the pin. Either way took it back apart and sorted the timing but my fuel pump timing was out now but i figured it should not make a difference im asking you if it does? 2016 golf gtd. Thankyou

What's the purpose of having the small bolt dead centre to the 15 degree after the belt is tensioned and the pullies rotate? Surely the cam, pump shaft and crank are all locked and the position of the pullet on any of them doesn't really matter? I'm only thinking it's like with the Transit chains - you loosen the cam and pump pulley bolts with the shafts locked off with a pin, release the tensioner and the chain snaps tight and the pullies rotate to where the naturally want to sit, then you tighten them all up. I dunno, maybe I'm missing something here - I can't see the pulley position being a massive issue while the actual shafts are all locked in the perfect position.

hi Dave I have had my timing belt replaced and waterpump etc. now have a slight chirping noise from the cam belt area, mainly when the engine is cold. it was a dayco kit that was fitted? it's on a 2.0tdi engine 2014. any advice at all. changed drive belt to plus tensioner.

You mentioned the additional tensioner pulley on the the larger (and longer blocked crankcase)2 LTR CR TDI engines that you suggested could be fitted last, and after everything else is in place. Does the extra slack in the belt by leaving this pulley off until all the other components are in place allow enough slack in the belt to fit it over the tensioner without having to wind it back in reverse and hold by using the old style triangular headed pin you utilised? Great video BTW, and very useful to me with my newer VW type engine with its differing setup👍🏻

No, you need to wind the tensioner back in reverse to set it

@@davesterl Cheers. Just like the earlier belts and original tensioner set up then. The smooth water pump pulley and the fact it’s the back of the belt that drives it initially threw me, but your clear explanations make it look perfectly doable for those of us that normally do our own maintenance.👍🏻

Done this job on a 2013 Octavia vrs with 2.0 tdi engine code Cupa. I purchased same timing tool kit as you have Dave and it was definitely needed. Cant possibly see how you can do that job with tipex. Also asked VW for the complete timing kit and they send out the pulleys and the studs that they run on as they are one use stretch studs. This job was needed due to the common failure of the water pump collar sticking closed that has a upgraded part number when you order one. Assume water pump sticking was reason for your repair at only 55k?

Nice video dave, i like the powerpoint walk throughs. Would it be possible for you to point me in the direction to buy or download the repair manual for referral? Also my engin is a crlb hence as per the parts man from vw said its got an e-pump not a mech driven one. 👍🏼

Hi Dave I did my timing belt exactly like how u did but after few hundred miles the little screw on the cam sprocket now all the way down not In the centre anymore and I have experienced some mpg droped could u please advice what should I do btw the timing is all correct ..thank you mate

I dont know how it has moved if it was positioned and tightened correctly

@@davesterl thanks for getting back mate I think torque wrench was playing up might not have tightened to 100 nm that's probably why it moved the car run fine it's just bit poor on mpg ..thanks again dave
