Its good to have these videos. Why does Volkswagen make everything dumb as hell? Nothing on these cars are made simple to change from the interior to the motor. Stupid

I own a 1968 Beetle and it's the same there..it took me longer to change ONE spark plug wire, and only the wire, than it took me to install the new distributor timing it. etc. Oh, and the car battery under the rear seat with the terminals only a couple of inches from the seat springs😆 It's a fun car tho. Easy to work on the engine at least.

You know you don't have to move the intake to pull the spark plugs just get an extension with the swivel head and get a spark plug socket and that will come out no problem just messing with the wires is difficult but once you pop those off change the spark plug and put anti spark plug cease they give it to you in your auto zone so the plugs aren't difficult to pull off next time and boom your done start with cylinder 1 and work down to 4

Great video. I just finished this whole ordeal. My only prior experience servicing cars was changing a broken lightbulb, and I have to say, you made it look way easier than it was. That over-head intake manifold was such a pain in the ass. The whole process took me about three hours. I nearly spent a third of the time fiddling with those two inward bolts on the manifold. I even had to go and buy one of those long hex keys because of them.

Thanks for the video. You gotta love those pesky vacuum lines that make you go what the "bleep" when you finished repairs and the motor is still running just as bad as before the repairs!

no problem. its good practice to change them but its possible to get away with reusing if they look like they are not completely worn out.

It’s easy due to the VW engineers making sure the angle is accessible with a spark plug socket and extentions.. don’t overcomplicate something simple…

Can you do it without the special volkswagen tool to take out the spark plug’s plug?

yes but its just harder to grab them and pull. maybe if you have hose pliers(the ones that have the half circle) that will help.

Trying to make sure I put all the hoses in the right place. I put in a new fuel pump but it won't crank . Do I need to replace the fuel filter to

Its common to replace them together. Make sure no fuses were blown. Did you disconnect the battery when you replaced it?

This seems pretty complex. Do you think it will be hard process for any mechanic? I have 2005 vw beetle and I think I need to change my spark plugs. I have a mechanic I go for routine work (oil, brake) but not sure if he can work on this. Any idea? IT seems like there are 4 spark plugs. Thank you.

This is not a big job, a little more work than normal 4 cylinders engines but nothing special that needs to be done. The intake removal might seem a little more complicated, but it is straight forward

I changed the spark plugs and coils in my 2013 VW Bettle and now all the lights are on… What could be the problem?

@@chaschas000 Doesn't sound like a spark plug specific issue, if its sounds like its running fine when started, just start driving around for a bit so the computer can relearn the car. I've have that happen a couple of times on other vehicles when you unplug electrical connectors.

@@Shon9tilR the pump is at the bottom of the resevoir. i dont have the beetle anymore, so i cant give a forsure answer bit i would think if you jack up the car and take the wheel off, you might have access. ill look at my other beetle video to see if there is a pastic sheild on the inside of the wheel well.

@@Shon9tilR go to my channel and look at the video called vw bettle - wheel bearing. and pause it anytime from 1:08 to 1:10 . there is a plastic sheild covering the bottom of the engine. if you take that off, you might be able to see the resevoir.

All fun and games until one of those hex bolt heads gets rounded out, which would be a nightmare with those bolts in the back of the manifold. Any suggestions?

You don't need to remove the manifold. Spark plugs can be removed with a universal joint adapter.
