VW Bug Dweezil Restoration Steering Box and Front Beam E4

The restoration continues with removal of the front beam and a deep dive into the steering box. Aircooled VW engines get a lot of attention, but even the less obvious parts of a vintage Beetle have some cool designs too. Dweezil shows us how the steering works while Tig smells things and provides morale support. Next!

Hey, I really enjoy your videos... i came to find your channel with the excellent Tin's restoration series just love that you broke those down very clearly, no offence but you've come a long way from these videos... this is great and i'm enjoying this series etc but i have to say when you breal it down and teach step by step and don't rush over it ... well it's just fantastic ... especially for a new to vw's person like me, i learn so much ... so keep up the great work and don't rush my friend.

Very professional. No jibber jabber. Great editing. I'm learning as much as I am able before I get a VW. Thanks for posting. I feel that the music is distracting, but that's my opinion. The guitar section is less distracting. Your information is important. Please don't let the music interfere. Every garage needs a lab as a mascot. Anybody that has a lab can't be all bad. Labs are great supervisors. Best wishes, Ivor

Thanks Doug, I'm glad you like what you see here and hope you get the king and link pins sorted out. I'm new to them too on this '67 Splitty; I believe they will be a good design for your buggy due to their strength. Just takes a bit more maintenance to keep them serviced. Thanks for being a part of the fun!

Tig is really the star! Fun video. Try to change your camera angle. The fluorescents in the background create a blur that is not only distracting but also is a little fatiguing on the viewer. I’m really liking the flow, the information, and the production. I’m not a VW junkie but this is cool to watch.

I’m messing with my steering box as we speak. Ugh!! I’m switching to John Deere Corn Head grease. I believe it’s “00”, consistency. Don’t want to have to worry about leaks out of my old seal. I found a bunch of pasty grease in it when I took it apart. Great channel!

You mentioned cutting a gasket. I am interested if you actually cut it out and where you bought the paper. What thickness? Thanks!
@HapticGarage
@HapticGarage 4 жыл бұрын
Yes! Some are easier to reproduce than others, but gasket material is available in many forms and thicknesses; paper, fiber, rubber, cork...I found a variety pack (Fel-Pro part # 3060) and used the Rubber-Fiber sheet, 1/32" thickness. I'm focused on the bus project right now, but will continue sharing the Dweezil project (including the gasket making) after the bus is on the road. Thanks for watching!
