Thanks for the video. I've installed an N4 over the past couple of days, but I used the OBD pack. I'll probably set the park mode to "collision detection" so I don't get problems with the motion sensors going off all the time when we're moving around the van. I used a set of electrical "fish" rods to feed the rear USB cable down the side of the van in the same channel you used. FYI, I find putting the b-pillar panel back on is easiest if you slot the sliding seat-belt panel onto the machanism first, then attach the b-pillar panel on top. The sliding seat-belt panel slots over the prongs, latch and a Torx bolt and stays in place reasonably well as you then wrestle the over-panel back on top of it. Cheers! John

Glad you found it helpful. I ended up moving the camera just very slightly down I think but it’s pretty much in exactly the same place.

Hi.....I'm back again!! I was looking at the install of the rear camera on the VW California and I get how you routed the cabling from the front to the back.... do you have any photos of the final position of rear camera and how you routed the cable from the rear cupboard to the camera. Looking forward to the videos of your continental trip.....👍

@@CJ-VW-Cali I’m not sure I can post pictures here only comments but the camera is now exactly above the rear wiper pivot point as low as it can go. The cable for it I’ve since rerouted as I added solar (video to come) I cut a small slit in the grommet that is in the left top of the tailgate the solar and usb cable for the camera go through this then the camera cable is just tucked between the glass all the way down to the wiper area. It actually fits very well and no need to glue or anything

Super instructional VLOG. Thank you. Car / Van electrics worry me, especially on the Cali! I might brave it, or I was considering buying a battery version of a dashcam. Any thoughts or recommendation on that?

Thank you, easiest option is to buy the same dash cam I used here without the hardwire kit you can just plug in the cigarette lighter socket but you will lack “parking mode” doing this of course still need to run that rear cable but honestly was easy 👍

Hi enjoyed the video, have recently taken ownership of my VW California Ocean and was considering the same Dashcam but was wondering if the front camera impeded the shutting of the front blinds? Also what was it you didn't like about the first position of the rear dashcam? Many thanks and happy travelling

The camera sits behind the blinds when they are sit and don’t impede at all. The original position the internal camera was very blocked by the mirror but even where it is now it’s partially blocked but in I’m fine with that. Used it on a recent 2500 mile euro trip and it was flawsless

Thank you for documenting this! We picked up our cali (almost same spec as yours) last Friday and have been weighing up dash cam options too! Did you feel there was enough length in the rear cable if you had decided to feed it through the tailgate grommet?

On this Vantrue kit I would say there is at least half a meter left bundled up and the camera is right by the wiper so no problem I would say but if it isn’t long enough this is easily solved… grab a USB C extension cable for Amazon that’s all that’s needed. You will love your Cali we are so pleased with ours

I used a Samsung pro plus 512gb I reformat the card and it’s never been a problem since
