I replace the T3 camper's clutch slave cylinder, flush the brake fluid and bleed the system, and try to get to the bottom of a starting issue.

Personally, I invested in one man brake bleeding kit. It simply connects to a spare tyre with 20psi in it, fill the half litre bottle with brake fluid and screw the other end onto the fluid reservoir. The thing worked fantastically, completely changed the clutch and brake fluid in minutes. Then mopped up the pool of brake fluid from the foot well because the poxy rubber seal on the reservoir end of the kit is shite. I can relate to everything you experience with that van. Each part you replace requires another part to be replaced because it wasn’t that one causing the problem...... bastard.

I do actually have one of those Gunson Eezibleed kits myself, but I found that it makes an almighty mess, so I wanted to try a different method.

Great story bro. But Volkswagen didn't fit a "plastic slave cylinder onto the gearbox of a T3" The van that you are working on, has got a non factory, non T3 engine/box that's been retro fitted. If it had been the engine that the van came out of the factory with, it would have a metal bodied clutch slave cylinder, fitted on a steel bracket on top of the original gearbox. Probably best to point that out to viewers who think that you're working on a standard, factory spec T3.

I apologise if I didn't make that clear in the video. I retrofitted the engine and gearbox in a video series on my channel. I should have mentioned it though.

Ross check your fuel return lines (injector leak off pipes) as a pin hole in these pipes can cause air to enter the system when sitting stationary allowing the fuel in the feed lines to drain back to the tank and then needing a long crank to draw the fuel up again. this does not always show as a leak due to the lower pressure on the return side.

Have you tried new glow plugs

The TDI engine should only need glow plugs in the coldest of weather, far colder than it gets in Ireland. In any case, my glow plugs are in working order.
