Thank you very much for this video. You’ve helped me change the plugs on my 2017, Sportwagen. Very helpful video. 👍

Thanks for this. I have a 2019 Alltrack--4.5 yeqrs old with only 19,000 of mostly suburban and some highway driving. The dealer tells me to change the sparkplugs for $300 and change the DSG fluid for over $600. It is still under warranty, but I don't see the need. Any feedback on the plug change at this low a mileage. I am getting old, late seventies, and am not up for changing the plugs myself after watching you.

I'm about to change the plugs in my wife's 2017 alltrack 1.8L I think it has around 55k on it. Just recently started experiencing some power loss but no lights coming on, not hard starring, no weird noises. I just changed the air filter too. I'm leaning towards boost leak because at the rpms where you should feel the turbo kick in it feels flat and its getting shitty mileage

Sounds like you may be on to something then. I’m up to 70k on my 2017 now. About time for another plug change. Hope you get your issues tracked down. Starting with the plugs is a good idea especially if they’ve never been changed. Use NGK or OEM VW plugs only.

@@saefhindi6184 it was definitely the plugs, Im wondering if it's from not running premium in it all the time might foul up the plugs after awhile. You can definitely tell the difference from a tank of premium in it than running regular. I believe they are supposed to have a minimum of 87 octane

Nice video. Did you change these at the scheduled maintenance initial interval of 40K or 4 years and what type of plug did you use? OEM, iridium, etc.? Also, how did the changed out plugs look as I'm sure they could probably easily go beyond 40K/4yrs w/out any or much noticeable gas mileage or performance difference for well maintained normal to light vehicle use? Our now almost 3.5 y/o 2017 Golf Sportwagen 1.8 TSI (same engine) is not far from the 40k mark so I plan to order some plugs & change them soon.

QBS I changed them at 40k miles shortly after I first picked up the car used. Also went ahead and did a DSG service but didn’t capture that on video. Maybe next round. As for the plug life I agree, they looked okay. But VW suggests them to be changed at 40k.

@@darrenstanley5244 Sorry for the delay in responding as I didn't notice a youtube message notification. I figured I would install a set of iridium plugs since they are supposed to last longer than the OEM set and should easily last another 50+K miles. Our model has the standard auto trans which doesn't require as much service as the DSG, but I'm sure it gets better mileage though vs a standard torque converter auto trans. We had the DSG on a 2011 TDI Sportwagen (the diesel matched with the DSG trans & miss it's much higher mileage vs the TSi) and remember paying the dealer around $430 or so at the 40K mark just for the DSG service alone so I'm sure doing it yourself is probably worthwhile. We sold that TDi back to VW after the diesel gate fiasco and moved up to more modern features like adaptive cruise control etc. which I really like. Will probably go electric next in the next few years with that tech greatly improving (since Tesla started making them) and likely becoming much more mainstream vs now. Especially with much more advanced driver assist features and or even eventual full self driving becoming a reality at some point as well! Also won't need oil changes and related service compared to traditional ICE powered vehicles. At least most of the current anti-BEV critics will eventually switch once they actually drive one and realize that they have become much more advanced and way better than something such as the Toyota Prius , Nissan Leaf, (original-current generation) VW Golf electric, etc.

I'm about to change out my plugs on my 2018 s model alltrack, was just wondering where I can find the torque specs on the plugs? or am I safe going with the hand tighten/ Quarter Turn route? Thanks in advance for your feedback.

And how did you remove the coilpacks?

Just twist and pull up after removing the connectors and bolts. Very easily removed. Some claim a special puller is required but I’ve have both this 1.8 and a 2.5 and never used a puller. Hope that helps.

@@darrenstanley5244 Would you recommend this car coming from a maintenance perspective? AWD vehicles do tend to need more routine maintenance but do you think its costly to own as a used car?
