Anders Kedegård best way to do it is to ask VW dealer for certain specification according to VIN number. It doesn ´t worth risking wrong fluid and then damage. I didn ´t use original VW transmission fluid and I regret that. I used 2.1 liters.

If you decide to go with aftermarket fluid use a thin MTL. Thinking I was being a hero I used Redline MTL and it wiped out the synchros in the 02Q transaxle. The fluid these transaxle like is roughly 7cp @ 100 degrees C. Royal Purple MTL is a good aftermarket alternative.

I have a 2013 Golf MK6 TDI also and getting ready to change the fluid. It has been really reliable for me so far. I have ~72k miles on it right now. I deleted the emissions equipment and tuned it at 30k and it has had zero problems. I did install a secondary 1 micron fuel filter system from 2Microntech to protect against a high pressure fuel pump failure, but that was just a preventative measure. My car showed no signs of a HPFP going out. Check out TDIclub...there is a ton of info on there regarding common problems/fixes, but overall I've been stoked with the car from day 1. Cheers!

@InTheGarageDIY
@InTheGarageDIY 5 жыл бұрын
@@austinnelsen6066 CP3 would probably be your best bet. The guy that was custom machining the secondary fuel filter manifold isn't making them anymore. It was post HPFP so if the pump failed the metal shavings would be contained in the 1 micron filter and not contaminate the fuel rail/injectors/fuel tank...etc etc. So basically if it failed you would just need a new pump and filter and the fix would be less than $1k instead of like $6-7k.

hi, another question, Is there a difference in quality of models made in Mexico or Germany ? I think your car was made in German, if I'm not mistaken! I do like the sportwagen, but they are made in Mexico. Thanks again.
@InTheGarageDIY
@InTheGarageDIY 5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't worry about it honestly. The MKVI (my car) was the last gen built in Germany, but the factory they built in Mexico (where all the MKVII gen Golfs/sportwagen variants are built) is the same factory they have in Germany. I also own a MKII Tiguan which was built in Mexico and it feels just as much "VW" as my Golf. Until there is any real objective evidence presented that the Mexico built cars are any different in quality then I'll assume they are the same.

On some VW models the transmissions are angled so the fill plug is not the level. To ensure correct filling you need to know how much oil the transmission should hold then measure the oil that comes out to ensure it has completely emptied correctly. Then replace the correct amount of oil, this may require you jacking up one side of the vehicle to get the fill hole higher. You can see how much oil comes out when he cracked the fill plug that the level was higher then he fills it too.

This is one of those transmissions, you can see the bottom of the gearbox is level when the front is jacked up. It seems to be raised up to about the correct level however (dribble of fluid came out after removing the fill plug) so should be fine.

3:35, There is no crush washer? That's very strange. VW Manual Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill plugs look similar to Toyota Manual Transmission Plugs and I wouldn't be surprised if the thread size is the same or similar. I will check the size and if is the same as Toyota, I will use the Toyota aluminium crush washer and torque it to 29 Foot-Pounds. VW Golf 2015 owner's manual doesn't give any information or specification about Manual Transmission Fluid. I found that information on VW Golf-2015 FLUID CAPACITY CHART 8/21/2014| National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Web Site. VW OEM Fluid is extremely expensive and I found RAVENOL MTF-3 SAE 75W for less money.

Actually the "lifetime oil" is a scam since it lures in potential customers since they think the vehicle needs less servicing than it really does. Yes its a lifetime fluid (for the first owner of the car). They usually assume the lifetime of a car is 100k km. Every fluid is a lifetime fluid, even your engine oil. If the fluid isnt good anymore neither is your engine lol. You dont need to change it as often as in older cars but i would recommend changing it every 100k km or so with a manual (depending how well you treat the gearbox)
