VW Golf TDI Turbo Boost Hose Replacement - How to fit Inlet pipe for Intercooler Poor running/smoke

As per a previous video I'd got a problem with my MK4 Volkswagen Golf TDI where the boost hose was repeatedly becoming detached at the connector for the EGR valve. This is due to the metal lugs on the side of the hose getting worn down over time which allows air leaks and for the hose to pop off at times. I had fixed the hose with cable ties but this is only an interim solution as the hose will still have air leaks where it doesn't fit snugly into the EGR mount.
The replacement hose was under £20 from eBay for a pattern part, a genuine VW hose would have been £65.
This is the hose I used for my PD130 ASZ engine Golf MK4 from Leader Components, it was Hajus brand pipe

I just pulled the boost hose off mine once I used water pump pliers to open the jubilee clip didn't use a screwdriver to losen it first. I suppose everyone has their own way of doing things. Brilliant stuff. Thanks

Hi, i would just like to let anyone who owns an older VAG car upto 2013 to check your fan shroud at the bottom where is butts up to the radiator in the middle. I recently had a coolant look and found out that it is a design flaw where the plastic fan shroud leans against the radiator in the middle making contact and rubbing over time, eventually rubbing a hole into your radiator, really really stupid design, almost like it was meant to cause a failure after X amount of time and miles... So check yours if you can, I fixed mine with some metal putty stuff and some double sided sticky foam to hold the plastic fan shroud away from the radiator.. Hope this helps someone. Also the VW boost pipes are shite compared to other non German manufacturers. give me a simple hose connected to a flanged pipe with a jubilee clip any day compared to the crappy design VW use. I have had 2 mk5 Golfs and both have had the same issue of the boost pipes breaking and blowing off.

Thanks mate, I just found out the same on mine... I was looking if anyone else got the same problem... the pipe connecting the lower part of the intercooler is all dirty in oil and shit. By listening I would say that's the leak. (I'm not a mechanic). I guess I must replace it

Hi mate. I took my car to the garage and the advisor was “replace left ns turbo boost to inlet pipe” is this the same issue. On the dashboard my car shows “check glow plug” and loses significant power when I drive the car. I have a 13 plate Audi A1 1.6 TDI

I have this problem, gave my car (fabia vrs mk1 pd130 standard) to a garage, they changed all hoses and boost pipes including the intercooler all genuine! and when i went to pick it up on my way home I could hear some whistle noise, when I looked under the bonnet all my boost pipes were out! so I thought one fix would be secure the joints with heat shrink.... fingers crossed!

Hi mate I have a pipe coming from the turbo that seems to be corroded what is this pipe called?? I can’t seem to find one anywhere as I’m unsure of the correct name of the pipe it directly attached to the turbo at the bottom

That sounds like the oil feed pipe. Small-ish pipe with a nut connecting it to the turbo?

Hello, I have a 2005 VW Jetta TDI and I am experiencing a lack of power check engine light is on and a airy sound when you drive it. My husband checked that hose and noticed that it's not sealing properly. We noticed some oil in the hose and some (not alot) of smoke coming out. My question is how do I know if its the turbo part that need to be replaced or if it's my hose or maybe a vacuum hose? Please help if u can 🙏 thank you.

If the hose is not sealing then that needs to be fixed. It's a much cheaper fix than turbo so worth doing first as it will need doing anyway. If it solves the problem then all good, if not then you'll need to look at other issues. But on mine it did cause loss of power when it was leaking.

Thank you so much for the reply. I did change the hose and it seemed to improved the acceleration on flat road, but it still has some issue climbing a hill. I was wondering if a mass air flow sensors could affect the performance as well? Thanks again you have been a big help to us 🙏

Hi mate, I have a split AGR boost pipe from intercooler to turbo, is it normal for oil to come out the split pipe?

Yes some oil can come out, you normally find a small quantity sits in the pipe

Wicked thankyou mate, I've have a temporary fix with fiberfix and aluminum tape, until the new pipe arrives seems to be running like a different car

Yes it can significantly lose power

put the clips on first it will make a clipping noise once pipe is inserted correctly then u know that it’s in place

No, it's the lugs on the pipe itself that wear out and stop it sealing properly

@@ajvw I’m a hydraulic guy I know o-rings wear with heat especially when it’s located against a heat source (EGR) valve I’m picking up a new seal tomorrow and gonna test of it works

No worries, give it a try. On mine the lugs had worn so the clip wouldn't hold regardless of the seal inside

If you see my previous video I had tried other options over the last year but for £18 to fix it properly decided that was worthwhile

@Márk Polgár mines held up really good! You need about 20 wraps. Mines on a VW Phaeton 3.0 TDI 240 BHP off the left intercooler. Without the tape it blows off instantly. With the tape it's held up for 2 years. Also done on vw sharan 1.9 tdi egr pipe and that held nicely.
