As a Formula 1 fan, this video scared the hell outta me.

I mean this is a huge clickbait title. Some of these theories seem very far fetched and there any many reasons why this might not happen 1) Nothing prevents F1 from having electric powertrains. 2) F1 has already committed to a carbon neutral future with 3rd gen biofuels. 3) F1 and FE are two very different forms of Motorsport. One runs on public roads in spec cars whereas the other runs on circuits with the fastest cars in the world. 4) The FIA won't allow FE to become a bigger sport than F1. 5) New manufacturers are interested in F1. Aston Martin have committed already and Porsche almost got ready to enter in 2021. Let's also bear in mind that Porsche is owned by VW.

Remember 2009, when BMW, Toyota and, the year before, Honda left F1, killing the sport? Or 1992, when Honda, again, left? What about Porsche in the mid-80ies? Or, hell, Mercedes in 1955?

Mercedes' stance on this is actually pretty valid. As far as internal combustion engines go, we've pretty much seen everything there is. Much of the current innovation is just incorporating advances in material science, there's really not much left to optimize mechanically.

There's so much speculation in this video based on an article written by one person who's sitting somewhere far away from what's actually happening in F1. The reality is very different. Honda, Mercedes and Ferrari has spent an upwards of $800million in the turbo hybrid era since 2014 on just engine development and Merc is already reaping the benefits of this with back to back 5 championships. The CEO of Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes has said that they aren't pulling out in the near future. The sport is heading towards a new formula and regulations starting in 2021 and teams will sign a concorde agreement that will guarantee their involvement in the sport until atleast 2025-2026. Formula E cars have a long way to go in terms of battery capacity and motor tech before it can compete with F1 cars. Also, the VW id.r is not a "formula" car coz it's not built to a set of particular rules and regulations and hence its easy to make a car that's purpose-built just for records. The id.r did set a lap record around the Spa circuit - the only circuit in common where F1 races and this record was soundly broken by Kimi Raikkonnen in Q2 and he wasn't even trying coz he wasn't the fastest car on track during that whole weekend. This video was as clickbait as they come. It wasn't even properly researched. Instead the whole premise was based on one article. Atleast you could've done more research on this on sites like RacingLines, Autosport, F1 Racing Mag, GrandPrix+ where you would've found the opinions and articles written by experts and journalists who are present at all the 21 races in a year. Renault has just hired a new technical director, new heads of aero and engine development. Honda has suffered so much in 2015, 16 and 17 and the Japanese take these things very seriously. They will not go down until they've won everything. This video was a sham and total clickbait. I expected more from you guys. I'm really disappointed.

I am commenting this in 2021. I don’t think Formula One is doomed because just a few weeks ago Porsche announced that they are starting development on a synthetic fuel which is as clean as electric power. The main point of it is that this new fuel (currently in development) will be able to power all modern ICE cars without any modifications required to the cars. This means that if this new fuel is developed in time, there is a chance that Honda , Renault and Mercedes may not leave F1

Honda officially leaves F1, but still give their knowledge to the newly formed „Red Bull-power-unit-department“. So, basically, Honda pulls out of F1, but as they hand their knowledge to RedBull, RedBull is in my opinion capable of dominating the next few years, at least until Volkswagen enters the sport.
